The name of this story is “A Very Old Man with Enormous Wings”. The author of the story is Gabriel Garcia Marquez. He was born in an impoverished family. Gabriel was the most famous Latin American writer. He is known to have an exquisite imagination, when writing short stories. Also, the content of this is discovering a really old man with wings. The plot of this story is figuring out if the old man is really an angel. The main conflict in the story was the angel proving that he can make miracles happen. The story takes place in Pelayo’s and Elisenda’s courtyard. The central characters in the story was Pelayo, Elisenda, and the old man and the minor character was father Gonzaga. Pelayo rushed to get help for the old man because he was lying
face down in the mud. Elisenda was putting compresses on the old man. In addition to this, the words I found challenging were stupor, grandeur, decrepit and impertinences. The key word that lead to stupor was fallen body because it gives a negative effect. However, the word grandeur has a positive effect and the keyword was sense. Also, decrepit has a negative effect and the keyword was pitiful. Another word was impertinences which is a negative response and the keyword is murmured. Further, the story is being told by the old man. The image in the story is a beach, rotten shellfish, and ship. The author speaks about a man flying about the old man having wings. People did not internalize realistic view of the old man having wings and claiming to be an angel. In conclusion, I experienced mixed feelings because it talked about the spread of wings with such rapidity and when I think about the spread of wings, I compare it with the angels in heaven. The passage discuss the knock down of being different and I am assuming, they are accusing the angel of being unrealistic because he did not understand the language father Gonzaga was speaking. Also, this story relates to my belief system because I believe angels exist and will appear if a person is in distress.

Confinement can be when someone is either emotional or physically trapped in some sort of way. The Angel was said to be “a very old man, lying face in the mud” when he introduced in the story. The people who found him (Pelayo and Elisenda) said his wings were as if they “a huge buzzard wings, dirty and half-plucked that were forever entangled in the mud” (Marquez). Which made it easy for them to drag the Angel and confine him in a chicken coop. Once captured they noticed that his “feathers had been mistreated by terrestrial winds” (Marquez). Since the Angel’s wings were severely damaged it was nearly impossible for him to escape, because he was not able to fly away. All of the Angel’s physical qualities gave Pelayo and Elisenda an advantage to hold him captive for as long as he was vulnerable.
