1. My first impression of the story was the setting reminds me of a fall day in Michigan. It was dark and cool so it reminds me of my childhood in the mornings getting ready for school. At first I thought it was something like a family trip for the guys before the characters where describe. The thought of a young boy on a trip into manhood with his father and Uncle. As the story goes along my impression changes over time to its a story about life circle and the development of a young man 's understanding about life at the hands of his father.
2. My observation from the setting is that is taking place somewhere north. As the author describe the setting it reminded me of a fall day in Michigan. The boat ride assists me personally it reminds

My initial thoughts of Nick 's father was that he was a loving father. In the beginning of the story it seems as he would be more affectionate towards his son. As I read more I start to think of fathers that push their sons to hard and to much to be something they want them to be instead of letting their child find their own way in life. My assumption is that he is a great father but bringing Nick to the operation was like stripping part if his childhood away. It seem to develop nick a little faster than a child should be force to develop mentally. overall I think Nick 's father is a good father that just wants the best for his …show more content…
I think he learn the beauty of life and its beginning. Nick also learns that death is certain I think he tries to deny the fact by saying he isn 't going to die.
7. My personal experience that resonates with the life and the death part of "The Indian Camp" by Ernest Hemingway. The story brings me back to the birth of all my kids. It also brings me back to dealing and witnessing the deaths of both of my grandmothers.
8. My initials responses was shock. It was shocking not gruesome how they tide the birth and the suicide into a story at the same time. The death overshadows the birth of the child being born in my eyes.
9. I don 't think the author prepared us for the suicide. Its why the story was shocking at that moment. The suicide was not foreshadow at all. Nick development was not hinted at till the end of the story in my opinion.
10. Nick has certainly changed and grown. I think the last statement by nick was just being in denial about death. He knows everyone dies but I think it 's hard for him to accept that
13. The climax in my novel is when Jeff has to spy on General Watie.
12. If you were the author, would you have ended the story in a different way? Why? How so?
As much as generous and honest Nick Carraway is, he still needs a few important improvements in himself. Nick went to Yale, fought in world war one and moved to East of New York to work in finance. After moving to New York, Nick faces tough dilemmas throughout the story such as revealing secrets, and witnessing betrayal. His innocence and malevolence toward others was beyond his control. He did not have the ability or knowledge to know what he should have done in the spots he was set in. He seemed lost and having no control of what went on- almost trapped- but indeed, he had more control than he could have ever known. Because of the situations he has experienced and the people he has met, such as Gatsby, Tom, Jordan and Daisy, his point of view on the world changed dramatically which is very depressing. Trusting the others and caring for them greatly has put him in a disheartening gloomy position.
His opinions were never spoken, and no one asked for them. This characteristic about him never changed throughout the story. Nick changed in a different way, mostly involving his emotions towards Gatsby’s actions when he attempting to get Daisy back. He started partying more which then led to him drinking more in his life than he ever has before. As he got more involved with Gatsby’s situation he became more annoyed and frustrated with it. Gatsby always talked to him about it and would never leave him alone. He got pushed into awkward positions like the argument in the hotel (page 133,134,135). Nick was emotionally drained towards the end of the book, and could not deal with the drama he had became involved
4. I think I probably would have given up when the mother stabbed me. I think it would have been too painful for me to care anymore. I would have suffered too much.
nine, Nick begins to recall the past and relive his old memories. His must relieve his
1. How does the opening scene contrast with what happens at the end of the story?
Plot Structure – I felt that most of the exposition took place in the beginning of the first page. For the rest of the story there was mostly rising action. Then, I felt that the climax came when Julian sees his mother crumple to the ground. The falling action and resolution are packaged together in the last couple paragraphs.
9. I think this video is very helpful to understand about the colony society, and I think it brought the event of her trail to reality. I learned that people in the past were limited their voices and roles in the society, especially
...eep my refuse away” (Pg. 177). This shows Nick’s sense of decency and friendship. He realizes that fast carousing life of the East Egg is a terrifying cover for moral emptiness from inside just like the valley of ashes. Before leaving to go back home he took care of all unfinished business. He ended his relationship with Jordan and walked away from Tom Buchanan who he only shared college experiences with. Nick needed to go back to a cleaner simpler time in life away from East Egg and the Great Gatsby. At last his greatest fear came true; he became all alone by himself. At the end he realized that he has been changed and won’t be able to go back to how he used to be. Even though his personality remains the same he is stronger from inside; not afraid of anything.
Through Nick’s stream of unconsciousness in the following lines: "Yet high over the city our line of yellow windows must have contributed their share of human secrecy to the casual watcher in the darkening streets, and I was him too, looking up and wondering. I was within and without, simultaneously enchanted and repelled by the inexhaustible variety of life,” (p. ) the reader learns how Nick is completely lost as he cannot identify himself apart from the others. Nick continues this idea as he says how he “felt a haunting loneliness sometimes, and felt it in others.” This line shows how Nick justifies his lifestyle as he suggests other have it too.
8. c. Rate the story on a scale or zero to 10 and explain why you gave it that rating.
Firstly, the narrator gives little detail throughout the whole story. The greatest amount of detail is given in the first paragraph where the narrator describes the weather. This description sets the tone and mood of the events that follow. Giving the impression that a cold, wet, miserable evening was in
#10. The picture that I had in my head was a picture of Alex clinging to the back of the Jeep. Also he was trying to keep a tarp over him so he could not be seen. This was so the guards at the front gate could not see him. If they saw him it would certainly mean the end if his life. The other picture in my head was a picture of when Alex had been hearing what was happening in the meeting room. This picture was of 3 men talking over the prices of gold. Then Alex being grabbed by the collar of his shirt. These are the pictures that were in my head for this book. ( P.g’s 158-172)
