A. Main Dam
1. Pneumatic Piezometers: Other than P18, P19 and P20, the behaviour of the remaining operational piezometers are normal based on the guidelines Some of the monthly readings of P18, P19 and P20 show that the water pressure was above the expected normal reading based on the water level of the reservoir. These piezometers are located on the piezo line corresponding to elevation 200m MSL of the embankment. Considering the historical reading of these piezometers, it shows that the trend for P18 and P19 is in normal while there is no established reference for P20 since data are irregular for this piezo.
2. Observation Well: The readings of the 4-Observation wells are below the water level of the dam. OW8 and OW4 are located at the dam toe showing that the water levels are close to the tailwater level. For OW3 located at the middle level of the Saddle dam, show that the water level is close to the water level of the dam. Lastly, OW5 which is located far from the main dam, shows that the water level is below the water level of the dam. In addition, based on the alarm levels established through historical data (Damwatch database,2015), readings are within the allowable.

The Elitsac Manufacturing Company Dam affects 14.08 miles of Wolf Creek (Fish, n.d.). The original purpose of this dam is not documented within the state’s dam inventory, and it is also no longer in service (Dam, n.d.). Another dam on Wolf Creek is Hopkins Mill Dam, which also is out of service. The Hopkins Mill Dam was originally built to generate hydroelectric power and affects 46.58 miles of river (Fish, n.d.).

The negative aspects of Glen Canyon Dam greatly exceed the positive aspects. The dam’s hydroelectric power supply is only three percent of the total power used by the six states that are served by the facility. There is a surplus of power on the Colorado Plateau and with more and more power-plants being created in the western hemisphere, Glen Canyon Dam’s power is not needed (Living Rivers: What about the hydroelectric loss). Although the ‘lake’ contains twenty seven million acre feet of water, one and a half million acre feet of water are lost yearly due to evaporation and seepage into the sandstone banks surrounding the ‘lake’ (Living Rivers: What about the water supply?). The loss of that much “water represents millions, even billions of dollars” (Farmer 183). If the government were to employ more water efficient irrigation practices, as much as five million acre feet of water per year could be saved.
The research problem is clearly stated in the introduction and various times during the literature review. While it is known that automatic sphygmomanometers are not as accurate when compared to the gold standard of manual sphygmomanometer during single blood pressure readings they are still being used a triage instruments in emergency departments (Dind, Short, Ekholm, & Holdgate, 2011, p. 526). Triage is an essential step in the emergency department and instruments used in triage need to be accurate. Little is known about the accuracy of automatic devices when assessing postural blood pressures. It is shown in this study that orthostatic hypotension is a direct link to what triage category the patient is assigned, which can affect variables such as wait time and care received, so accurate measurement of this is an important factor in the emergency setting (Dind et al., 2011, p. 531).

In the beginning of the construction of the Three Gorges Dam, there were several problems. There were several protestors and opinions about the dam before the Three Gorges Dam project was even started.1 China has had history of several dam failures in the mid-1970s that were responsible for thousands of deaths. The three gorges (Xiling, Wu, and Qutang) have scenery that is a tourist attraction.2 The dam was going to be a little over 600 feet tall, 7500 feet wide, and hold over 97 trillion gallons of water. Because of all of the population increase, China started using coal power plants1 and shipping, which causes acid rain over the region making the Yangtze River is one of the most polluted rivers in the world.4 It does not help that the Yangtze River runs right through Chinas industrial heartland. Using the river to transport their goods to other parts or China adds to the pollution.2 Pollution from mines, hospitals, and garbage dumping is another big problem for the river because the pollution is building up around the dam.1 With the Three Gorges Dam will come landslides because of the rising water tables and the large slopes with unstable soil from local farming causing more sediment being added to the river.3 And because the dam lies on a fault line there will also be an escalation of earthquakes. There is a huge decrease in sediment discharge; which caused a 90% sediment load into thousands of other reservoirs. Before the dam was operational, it was retaining water and sediments.4 The water levels were rising faster than anyone expected, therefore, the finish date had to be moved up.1 Scientists even projected that 70% of sediment discharge would be trapped for the first two decades and 44% would be store...
The Hoover Dam turbines provide a great amount of electricity to those living in the states of California, Arizona, and Nevada. The water level of Lake Mead currently affects the dam’s ability to provide power from the large sized turbines. When the water level of Lake Mead goes down from conditions affecting it, the dam’s ability to provide power directly affects the power companies supplying consumers. Fortunately, the water levels gained back some of that full amount while still shy of where it once existed. As stated, “But the increased elevation isn’t enough to reopen any of the four boat launch ramps closed in the past decade, Holland said” (Shine, C., 2011, para. 9). This definitely indicates that there is currently promise to recovering with close to the original levels even though it may not be excessively soon.

Certain conditions can cause the line on the hydrograph to be tall and thin and other conditions can cause it to be short and wide. Peak discharge is the term used to describe the maximum amount of discharge from the river over the period of time recorded; this peak discharge can be high or low depending on a lot of conditions. Climatic factors are the most obvious conditions that can affect the flood hydrograph. If the precipitation is very intense and there is a lot of it then the hydrograph is likely to have a high peak discharge where as if the precipitation is low-intensity and there is a small amount then the graph will have a gentle ascending limb. [IMAGE][IMAGE]The ascending limb is the first part of the line on a hydrograph that rises to the peak discharge.
The first three points of the graph are located lower because some air was trapped in the core sample. The hydraulic conductivity becomes almost constant after approximately twenty minutes. The average hydraulic conductivity doesn’t have to be converted to the standard temperature because we worked under the standard temperature. The average hydraulic conductivity is 2,8 ∙ 10-5. According to the classes of saturated hydraulic conductivity, modified after Kutilek and Nielsen (1994) it is typically a loamy sand.
