In discussions, Australians use different styles and have fewer rules. Messages should be spelled out because of the low context Australians communicate with. When speaking informal status and hierarchy aren’t important or even considered in discussions. The display of emotion may seem restrained at times but it’s very common where on the other hand someone teasing you could be a sign that the relationship is going well. Communication can become extremely direct because Australians don’t find it to say “no”. Straight forward speaking shouldn’t be interpreted as rude or impersonal but Australians respect people with strong opinions, no matter if they agree or not. Self-promoting and using a hard sell approach when presenting to Australians it can be interpreted as bragging and have a negative response. Australians don’t like to make things out that they are better than others, same applies for the products and services. Since Australians have a high degree of individualism but Australian teams aren’t always well aligned which could make it easy to play members against each other. The director’s use of various character development techniques such as vocabulary, colloquial language and clothing etc have allowed the director to establish stereotype Australian characters within the film. In the movie, the use of these techniques have influenced the way societies around the globe consider the country Australia and its people. According to a film editor John Miller “This film ˜Crocodile Dundee' has influenced the way foreigners think about Australia and Australian people. The images it portrays only focus on a small part of the truth about Australia and its people, culture and social systems. The impressions the film would give to overseas viewers weren't exceptionally true and mainly focussed on the things commonly known to foreigners. The film portrays the Australian men as dirty and uneducated who speak informally. The whole movie could be interpreted in many ways to show the truth. Those who know of the country would have seen it as a funny movie but those who didn't would have the wrong impressions and ideas about
T Australians can be represented in a positive way by celebrating its diversity as a united nation, between its people and the land. Australians pride themselves as hard-working, humourous and jovial people, who love the outdoors and good food. But in recent times we notice that Australians, are not being ‘Australian’ enough. Gone are the days where men wore rabbit-fur and trusty leather work-shoes. New York Yankees caps worn backwards and polished white Adidas Superstar sneakers coupled with denims worn below the hips instead have replaced these. Ten years ago, the mentioned situation could only exist in the United States of America. Today we see it happening in almost all major cities and suburbs in Australia (Mengel 2001, pers. comm., 11 Aug)
Aspects of the perceived culture in an o organization, such as, level of communication among members, the level of support in regard for new innovations and technology, as well as the amount of support by upper level management all have a positive influence on the manner employees behave and interact with each other as well as how they treat consumers and suppliers. If employees emulate a manager that does not share the same values and beliefs of others within the organization, or that does not share a good work ethic, employees will not complete tasks and fail to be productive. It works as well in the opposite manner; when employees see a manager who supports a company’s mission, its goals, and business strategy, the organizational culture of the company will aide in providing a clear direction for employees to follow and strive towards. Ultimately, the culture supports desire business strategies and the overall mission of an organization, and the capacity of the culture is dependent on just how intensely employees share the values and basic assumption of the
Australian humour is very unique to Australia. This individual sense of humour is not often found in other Westernised cultures and people from those places may have difficulty understanding it. In some places, the characteristics of Australian humour may not even be considered acceptable behaviour and it would be breaking the law to do so. For example, in Australia, people are free to make jokes about the government, but in other countries this may not be accepted. Some unique and important characteristics of Austral...

Good morning /good afternoon, welcome to the Australian Youth Conference, today I would like to talk to you about some of the greatest Australian perceptions and what I think about these perceptions. For a moment I would like you to think what the typical Aussie looks like. Now in your mind did you see a typical Australian as the rough looking outback hunter, the drag queens that roams around the dessert, did you see us riding kangaroos to school, do we surf at any chance we can get, do we live with most deadly animals on earth (big spiders), do we throw the snags on the barbeque after a long day at work, and do we drink beer with every meal? These are common perceptions about our Australian culture and identity. Have you ever stopped to consider how these perceptions of Australians are formed?

The Australian people and the way live are not as different as one might think. They do some different ways of living, and different ways of believing, but one thing they are not is negative or mean. Most live a happy modest life, most are happy and want everyone around them to be as happy as they are. They have had their difficulties but always come back on top. Australians are much more individualistic than the Japanese and thus when John travelled to Japan he found himself having to adjust to this. As a collectivist society this was evident to John in the nature of the people he stayed with during a home stay. He said they were much more welcoming and accommodating than what he was used to. John noticed a substantial difference between the Australian outspoken way of life where individuals directly communicate what they want whereas the Japanese are very reserved and polite as they are reluctant to disturb group harmony, often the Australian sense...
Communication is an interdependent process of sending, receiving, and understanding messages. The definition implies that the components of the communication process cannot be examined separately. Rather, the relationship exists between the sender and the receiver, as well as the environment of the communication event, must be viewed as a whole.
