The use of steroids in Major League Baseball has existed for a long time. There was actually a period in time that was nicknamed the Steroid Era. This was in the 2000s. It is however believed that it started in the 80s. This was the era in which players would use steroids in order to enhance their performance on the field during practice and games. These drugs are illegal and have been since 1991. Although there is a fairly long list of players that have been suspended due to using the drugs. The problem with this was PED testing wasn’t really used until 2003. But why are these illegal in the league? Should they be illegal? How do they affect the body of the player that uses them? PEDs have a huge effect on the body of the player. The players that take these drugs usually take a form of steroids known as anabolic steroids. Anabolic steroids are known to increase the players muscle mass and strength. The main anabolic steroid hormone produced by your body is testosterone. Some athletes will take just testosterone in order to see the same results. These drugs are so appealing to athletes because besides making the bodies muscles bigger, anabolic steroids may help athletes recover from a hard workout more quickly by reducing the muscle damage that occurs during the session.
