Have you ever heard the term “inactive bystander”? An inactive bystander is someone who watches an incident or event occur without any interference. During the Holocaust in World War II, various nations had zero interference in defending the Jewish people while Hitler murdered and persecuted them. Most interference came later on, once the genocide had already been occurring for quite some time. You could say it was too late because this inaction and lack of justice led to the slaughter eleven million Jewish people. Does our world learn from its mistakes? Genocide is still practiced in our world today, but are any actions being taken? Will the world, or even the United States, wait until it is too late again?
A genocide is currently taking place in Syria. In early 2011, the Syrian president Bashar al-Assad began breaking down peaceful protests and brutally punishing the protesters that ignited them. These protestors wanted relief from their government and wanted freedom for all of the political prisoners that were imprisoned by this government for speaking their minds. The government’s response to this was to shoot at the protestors. As the deaths increase, so do the number of protests. The government wanting these protestors to be eliminated is a lot like Hitler’s desire to eliminate the Jewish race. The inaction being taken is a lot like the inaction seen in the Holocaust.
You could say that the leaders of these genocides have some similarities. Adolf Hitler and Bashar al-Assad hate a certain group of people. Instead of suppressing this hatred they take it out using violence and persecution. However, Hitler’s solid reason for hating the Jewish race remains unknown. What is known about Hitler’s hatred towards the Jews is that he...

The true consequences of the selfish American decisions are the loss of millions of innocent lives. By repeating these decisions we now are allowing history to begin repeating itself. If this goes on without notice, there is a chance for an even bigger epidemic of hatred to be brought upon the allies for not showing a defense for these people. The biggest consequence is more innocent lives lost on our account. Justice needs to be found for those who are singled out by a government so that the world may live in peace.
As a conclusion, the world has not fully applied it 's mistakes from World War II. The United States has made progress by sending its troops, but still has denied a safe haven for those being persecuted. Hopefully it will be recognized that we need to take more action. If not, there 's another lesson to learn and another essay to write.
Genocide...genocide happens quite often in the atrocious despicable place called earth; Like in the Holocaust, and in the trail of tears. The Holocaust was a racist act exploiting the Jews. The trail of tears was over the white man wanting more land, not caring about how this effects anyone else. Both events are based on racist bigotry. They are different but they're the same concept….
This genocide happened because Hitler was put into power with a plan to rule the world. He was smart, he could persuade people, get people on his side, but he was evil. Hitler’s first step at world domination was to attack Israel and the Jewish people. After Germany went into debt after WWI the German economy was garbage. Hitler seen this as an opportunity to gain followers. He told the citizens that all the blame was to go to
Even though there are differences the Armenian Genocide and the Holocaust are very similar in the ways people were convinced to follow the government. Both of these genocides started with a change in government. The “Young Turks” who wanted one religion and one language told people that the Armenians were a threat to their national security and called all of them spies (Beecroft). They started with the intellectuals and the leaders. Taking their possessions away and not allowing them certain rights (Beecroft). This is similar to how Hitler told the people of Germany that Jewish people were the reason the war was going bad and they were the reason Germany was in such a weak state. Just like the Turks the Nazis wanted everyone to be the same but in a little bit of a different way. In the Holocaust they started with the political opponents (“Holocaust”). The Nazis also took away the Jews jobs and possessions (Bard 13). The taking of possessions and killings relate to another similarity between the two genocides. The Armenian Genocide was during World War 1 and the Holocaust during World War 2 (“Armenian” History.com). The fact the Arme...
The Holocaust and the Bosnian genocide had many similarities and differences in their course of events. Unfortunately, genocides like the Jewish Holocaust and the Bosnian genocide still continue to happen today. Jews were constantly persecuted before the Holocaust because they were deemed racially inferior. During the 1930’s, the Nazis sent thousands of Jews to concentration camps. Hitler wanted to wipe out all the European Jews in a plan called The “Final Solution to the Jewish Problem” (World History).
The war in Syria has been going on for six years now, killing more than a quarter million people and forcing over 10 million people to leave their homes. It has started with a peaceful protest and is now a full on genocide of people dying. The protest was for the arrest and torturing of Syrian teens for the graffiti of their anti government on a wall. When people form other people that were tired of the government saw this, they wanted their president to make major reforms of their democracy. He didn't like that, so he responded with a violent reaction. He killed thousands of Syrians and more from starvation. As the war went on, more people came in to play a role in the war. These people were from many different places. It has gotten so bad that politicians don't know what to do to stop it.
Steven Pinker implied that, “As long as your ideology identifies the main source of the world's ills as a definable group, it opens the world up to the mass murder of people” (1). Steven Pinker revealed an interesting side to the controversial topic of mass murders and the causes of them. He revealed that as long as people in this world believe that they are better than other due to their race, religion, and everything else that defines a group of people as different from another group of people. People are and have been wrongfully treated differently due to the incompetence of some to realize that everyone is equal. They often believe that they were superior to others because of their physical attributes and beliefs that they had. The Holocaust is a major example of the ignorance of some in history. This ignorance often resulted in the murders and mistreatment of many. Elie Wiesel was one of the six million plus people who were wrongfully mistreated during the Holocaust. Many believe that this sort of event could not occur in the current time period because people have become more civilized and tolerable to the differences of others, but sadly the world is not ready to contain a social utopia. The mass murder, and violence that is occurring in Darfur is one of the many things that shows that the world is far from achieving this social utopia. Throughout history, many occurrences of genocide have occurred due to the diversity of people and even though society has evolved greatly, there are still people and places today that are suffering.
“ Hitler used propaganda and manufacturing enemies such as Jews and five million other people to prepare the country for war.” (Jewish Virtual Library), This piece of evidence shows Hitler’s attempt of genocide toward the Jewish race a...
Genocide is the deliberate killing of people who belong to a particular racial, political, or cultural group (Merriam-Webster). This is what Hitler did to the six million Jews during the Holocaust, which led to many Jews fighting back. This paper will talk about how the Holocaust victims fought back against Hitler and his army. The Holocaust was a mass killing of Jews and non-Jews who were viewed as unneeded within the world by Adolf Hitler. Hitler became leader of Germany and tortured and killed many people. With Nazi Germany killing and torturing millions of Jews and non-Jews, victims decided to fight back with armed and spiritual resistance.
...re were two aspects of the essay that I found particularly interesting. First, the prospect that there are people in today’s society that are questioning the horrific facts of the Holocaust was interesting to me. I was unaware of this until now. I think more people should become aware of this crisis. This is problematic. If people don’t see the Holocaust as factual events that took place, we loss the lessons we learned from the mistakes that were made. I believe that this problem should be approached and solved. The other interesting aspect was that of the “Hippie” relativist’s problem with hygiene. By ignoring society’s norms, these relativists suffered health problems. I was also unaware of this and believe it should be made aware to more people. If people knew of this effect relativism can have, they may be more inclined to have morals fitting to societal norms.
Both of these cases share similar characteristics, but because the genocides differed in motivations and certain key mechanisms, it can be concluded that each case holds its own uniqueness, therefore the differences outweigh the

Bystander effect, (Darley & Latane, 1970) refers to decrease in helping response when there are bystanders around relative to no bystanders. Referring to previous study stating that there are some cases of which group size may promote helping instead of hindering it (Fischer et al., 2011). Researchers then speculate the possibility of positive influences from bystanders by taking public self-awareness into consideration. Researchers proposed that high public self-awareness would reverse the bystander effect in this study with 2 independent variables which are bystander and presence on the forum. They are defined as number of bystanders (absent vs present) and salience of name (salient vs non-salient) respectively. 86 students are randomly assigned to one of the four conditions in the experiment. Response of participants in the online forum is the operational definition for the dependent variable of helping behavior. The result shows that number of response increases with respect to increase in bystanders when public self-awareness is enhanced by using accountability cue (Bommel et al., 2012). Participants were asked to rate how notable they were from their view afterwards as a manipulation check.
The United States needs to look more into the perspectives of other genocides in the past. The past genocides will make people understand why genocides needs put to an end and never happens again. There were many events that made people understand to stop genocides and to prevent them. America can look back on the the Holocaust, end Japanese Aggression in 1937, and how the U.S. should treat genocides in the future more better. The United States should be responsible for stopping future genocide
Kristoff’s entire article was a reflection on how the Syrian issue echos the Holocaust. He creates parallels with the American reluctance to help an innocent group of people from being murdered by terrorists and the American reluctance to help Jews from their inevitable inhumane treatment and deaths. Kristoff believes we should see the Holocaust as an example of what happens when we do not take action in times like these. If we do not use the Holocaust as a mold of what could happen, history will repeat itself.
...s can occur again, is occurring again, and will occur again. Especially in times of transition and uncertainty, there is always the temptation to blame the more vulnerable minorities of conspiracy and to portray them as the cause of misfortune. While the lessons of the Holocaust have not been forgotten, they are often ignored in favor of economic interest. Public opinion demonstrates that Americans in particular do not want to go to war in Kosovo or Rwanda because there is no vested economic imperative to take action, no matter how strong the moral imperative is. Perhaps one day we will have advanced enough as a civilization to see that some causes are worth fighting for, even if it is half a world away, because we are part of humanity. But the danger of perpetuating crimes against humanity is always present, as long as the human heart can hate and discriminate.
