Oftentimes when we are children, we dream of what we would like to be when we are adults. Some of us dream of becoming famous, others dream of careers that represent honor and prestige. Interestingly enough, at such a young most of us never consider the journey a career will require us to endure. Take becoming a neurologist for example; one could argue numerous ways of attaining such a position. It is a fact, however, that in the pursuit of a medical degree, the combination of major and minor during one’s undergraduate years is key in the future success of an aspiring student. In light of this, the most ideal major and minor combination, in order to become a neurologist, is a major of biology with a minor of chemistry.
The path of becoming a physician is long. Typically a student would partake in four years of undergraduate studies at an accredited undergraduate university. “By the time you apply to medical school, you should have completed one year each (including labs) of chemistry, biology, physics, and organic chemistry;” all of which are courses which that are required by most medical colleges across the nation for entrance (Fischman 36). A person would then apply to medical schools through the American Medical College Application Service on the internet, after taking the Medical College Admission Test. To be competitive, one should have maintained at least a 3.5 grade point average throughout his or her undergrad years and obtained at least a 30 on the MCAT, whose possible top score is that of a 45.
Coincidently, the curriculum of a biology/chemistry major and minor satisfies the prerequisite classes required by most medical colleges as well as the test material on the MCAT. This basis of knowledge will aid a student, ...

Complete a four-year pre-medical courses as an undergrad. It is a requirement for some grad programs that you take a MCAT test. A requirement of 90 credits for some colleges with a B.S or B.A degree. It is outrageously competitive to get into medical school. A GPA of 3.6 is what is considered for applying into medical school. There are many qualifications for class selection that go into being chosen. Applicants are selected on a countable amount of things such as scholarships, characteristics, personality, references, MCAT scores, and personal interview. It is important to gain some experience in volunteer work, paid health care experience and extracurricular activities. Taking a leadership role during college shows that you are organized, confident, responsible, and reliable. Getting a letter of recommendation to show your outstanding performances will also be a great
The road to gaining admission to medical school and becoming a physician is long, difficult, and intensely competitive. Once admitted, however, medical students spend the first two years primarily in laboratories and classrooms learning basic medical sciences. They also learn how to take medical histories, perform complete physical examinations, and recognize symptoms of diseases. During their third and fourth years, the medical students work under supervision at teaching hospitals and clinics. Following medical school, new physicians must complete a year of internship that emphasizes either general medical practice or one specific specialty and provides clinical experience in various hospital services. Physicians then continue in residency training, which lasts an additional three to six years, depending on the specialty. Immediately after residency, they are eligible to take an examination to earn board certification in their chosen specialty. Most traditional specialties include the following: anesthesiologist, cardiologist, dermatologist, family practitioner, gastroenterologist, internist, neurologist, oncologist, pathologist, psychiatrist, pulmonologist, and urologist

According to my aunt Katherine, a medical student at Rice University, it is highly advised that I take advanced classes in medical diagnostics, clinical research, surgical practice, and disease management. Internships and shadowing jobs are also a great way to get involved with what I learn by experiencing neurologic problems and interacting with patients. Once I have completed my medical school program, I’ll have to pass the Medical Licensing Exam, a test that can be taken either after medical school or during the residency program. The MLE scores are then used to choose qualifying residents for an Internship and Neurological Residency
Among these programs are Speech and Debate, Business Professionals of America, Health Occupation Students of America, and all Advanced Placement classes will help prepare you for a career in the medical field. In order to work in a health care field you must be outgoing, able to work alongside others, and maintain a certain level of professionalism which all of the classes promote. “Doctors who display superior communication and leadership qualities advance to supervisory or managerial positions in hospitals and health networks. Those who start their own practices take on entrepreneurial roles and employ staff according to their needs. Some doctors join medical schools as faculty, and can gradually move into administrative roles” (Careers). By taking vigorious classes throughout your high school career you can be better prepared to achieve supervisory or managerial

Neuroscience refers to “the scientific study of the nervous system” It has been responsible for breakthroughs involving molecular, cellular, developmental, and medical aspects of human behaviors. Various organizations such as the “International society for neurochemistry” and the “European Brain and behavior Society” exist today to further the study of the nervous system and expand human understanding of medical and psychological ailments. The actual study of the nervous system dates all the way back to ancient Egypt where surgeons would drill holes into the human skull in order to alleviate a variety of aliments. The second half of the 20th century furthered the study of neuroscience via advancements in Molecular biology, and electrophysiology. These advancements are currently being used to study potential solutions to diseases such as (ALS) amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, strokes, and brain trauma. This research is funded by credible organizations such as the (NIH) National Institute of Health and the “National S...
Your body has about 10 systems that work together to complete a human being. This is studied by a branch of biology called anatomy. Anatomy is the study of body structures of humans, animals, and other living organisms. There are different types of anatomy like human anatomy, zootomy anatomy (animal), and phytotomy anatomy (plant) (Nordqvist, Christian, “What Is Anatomy?”). Students who plan to become part of the medical field are required to take anatomy along with biochemistry. Biochemistry is the study of chemical reactions inside the body. Doctors, pharmacists, and physicians are required to take many other biology and chemistry classes, but anatomy and biochemistry are the two major subjects studied to join the medical field. Without these courses a doctor, a pharmacist, or a physician would not know the basics of a human structure, the reactions and acids inside a human’s body. To become part of the medical field it is mandatory to study anatomy and have knowledge of each of the systems along with biochemistry.
A physician is someone who practices medicine and treatment of disease, injury, and other impairments. They also go by a Medical Doctor. To become a physician, you have some requirements to take care of. You must have completed at least four years at a college or university. Next, four years
People often anticipate their desire to become doctors at a young age. Perhaps this curiosity in the field of medicine is provoked by a natural knack for science or an inclination to help and impact their community. Throughout my life, the wonders of science have always intrigued my inner curious spirit. Although, I never imagined myself in a doctoral position, but after a traumatic head injury I realized that I wanted to help people the way that I was helped and the mind was my ideal focus. With that being said, becoming a physician specializing in neurology is a long, arduous, expensive process that can only be accomplished with great dedication.
Becoming an orthopedic surgeon is not easy, starting with undergrad to medical school. Finding a college that offer a pre-med program I the first step. Students should choose a major that will benefit them more for becoming a doctor, like becoming science. Collegeview.com states “In addition to math, science, and English requirements, take as many biochemistry classes as possible. Try to space out your pre-med coursework over the four years so that you can devote your maximum effort to each class.”
Computer courses are useful as technology is changing the way medicine is shared by physicians today. To head a career as a physician, a student needs to first enroll in a liberal arts program in undergraduate institution. Some colleges offer a premed major, but a general education with as many science and math course as possible and a major in biology or chemistry is good preparation for the study of medicine also. During sophomore or junior year in college, students should talk with an adviser about taking the Medical College Admissions Test (MCAT). College students should apply to medical schools at the beginning of their senior year, so it is recommended to begin medical school research as early as freshman
