An Appeal to Emotions
In this quote written by Miriam Adeney, the author talks about how the feeling of homeliness is hard to achieve once a person travels and gets to meet new people; since that person has started building relationships with them, whether as a friend, a family member, a significant other, or someone who has meaning to their life. When the bonds are created with these new people, the emotion love is starting to develop. As well as a homely feeling is created within these tight bonds causing emotions to override the ability for one to reason. This quote allows the reader to connect with the meaning that the author is trying to portray by using humanly emotions to tie the audience in.

The part where is says “part of you heart” which is a physical object commonly used to describe “feelings” or “emotions” that usually falls under the category of love. Not only does the author use emotions to allow the readers to connect but also an object that the readers can physically visualize to create that connection. There were also other elements that triggered emotions that people can relate to such “home” and “knowing”. Knowledge is something that everyone has, but specifically in this quote the knowledge was of one’s emotions for the people who has made any sort of impact in their life. Knowing their presence used to be there or is still there creates a totally different attitude and emotion for that place, compared to if one did not know anyone there. Also being able to have that homeliness feeling is a strong emotion that helps the readers know how deep these bonds are with the people in their lives. These are all the things that many have felt in their lifetime. So it was very easy for an author to capture a reader’s emotion using pathos in the
Home is where you go and everyone, everyone has to love you, Home is where your Family is. Loung Ung grew up much of her life with little family in comparison to the large group she left behind half way across the globe in Cambodia in exchange for promise in America. We read about this in the novel Lucky Child an autobiography by Loung Ung. All the big moments of Loung’s life, all the people, and memories by the end of the day that she remembers most are the ones Loung shares with family the same is true for her sister and at the moments when she felt hate she was alone without her sister and vis versa.
Everyone always has a safe place in their hearts for their homes. Home doesn’t always have to be a place where someone just sleeps in. However, home to some people is where they feel comfort. Somewhere or someplace can be one’s home. Some of the characters in Enrique’s Journey by Sonia Rozario and The Odyssey by Homer express the theme of home through an emotional journey. Enrique’s Journey is about a boy named Enrique who goes on a journey to find his beloved mother who he has believed abandoned him. The Odyssey is about a mythology where a hero named Odysseus tries to find his way back to his homeland after participating in a war. Odysseus from The Odyssey shows the theme of home by trying to return home to his family. Enrique from Enrique’s Journey shows the theme of home by looking for his mother who he considers to be his home. Telemachus in The Odyssey shows home when he decides to go find his father,
Homesick is a novel that exposes many different relationships, the strength of relationships, and how they can endure tremendous pain. The various relationships between Alec and Vera, Alec and Daniel, and Vera and Daniel are considerably different because of the variation in generation represented by each character. Each relationship in this family has its strengths and weaknesses depending on the past of the relationships. The relationships in the novel Homesick are seen through all of the character's eyes, so we can see how each character felt about the other characters. These characters do not tend to say what they think, we can see this many times throughout the novel. These relationships can be observed by seeing how they act, speak, and treat one another.
Alexandra Salas: It is important to understand challenging children’s lagging skills because if we don’t we won’t understand which skills the child needs to learn. But if we do, we will be better prepared to handle situations in which his challenging behaviors are most likely to occur. When we realize that the lagging skills contribute to challenging behaviors don’t always come naturally to all kids we have made a big breakthrough because most adults think that all children are created equal with the same social, emotional, and behavioral functioning. One very important thing to keep in mind is that challenging behavior occurs when life demands skills that a child lacks and when we see things from this perspective we no longer view lagging
To conclude, there are two main opposing representations and aspects of home presented in this poem, from what is seen as the "norm", the narrators life on land, to the "favoured", the narrators life at sea. Home is irrevocably linked to lifestyle and should not just be where the heart is,(though there is a sense that our "Heart's fulfilment" is important) but should more importantly be a place where we can live a life that will bring us towards heaven, which the poem portrays as our eternal home. The Seafarer is a poem which urges us to carefully "consider where we possess our home, and then think how we com thither."
Home is not a place where you took shelter, were raised up in, an address to, or where you currently live in. Home is family, friendship, comfort, and belonging. With that, comes the journey every individual faces to not only realize this, but also to get to a point where the individual truly feels at home. Which is exactly what Toni Morrison teaches us in her book, Home, through the narration and eyes of Frank Money, the main character. Frank Money is a poor, male, African American veteran that has been placed in a mental hospital. In which, he must escape from in order to save his sister, Cee, from a life threatening danger. While on this journey, Frank learns to grow from his past experiences and memories of his childhood and fighting in
Have you ever realized that your home isn’t actually as perfect as you thought is was? If you have, you’ll definitely be able to relate to Jacqueline Woodson’s beautiful story: “When a Southern Town Broke a Heart”. The story centers around the idea of home and change. Throughout the story, you can watch as 9-year-old Jacqueline Woodson’s perception of her hometown, Greenville, S.C., morphs into something different. Her teaching comes across loud and clear: As you get older and learn more about the world, your view of it changes.
To some extent, the phrase “the Era of Good Feelings” reflected the political environment following the War of 1812. It was first used by the Boston Columbian Centinel on July 12, 1817, a Federalist newspaper, when President James Monroe visited Boston to gain his popular support after winning his presidential election in 1816. [1] The visit also epitomized the goodwill of Monroe and further strengthened the nationalism. Thus, it opened an era that inaugurated a period of national consensus between 1815 and 1825. During this period, the republic commenced a period of economic prosperity and reforms to promote nationalism after the war. [2] During the period, the transportation project began and Congress passed the tariff of 1816 to make American
I am a very independent person who likes her space and can be very stubborn at times. When I know I have plans I usually stick to them even when I am not feeling up to them. I can easily but on a fake smile and pretend I am having fun, when in reality I am really tired and just want to be at home. This here is an example of emotion work that I often face. I will force myself to have a good time at a party, even when I am not feeling up to it. There is not just one time this has happened to me, there are multiple times when this example of emotion work has applied to me. The feeling rules of this situation is that when you are out socializing at a party or get together with friends or family you should be having fun and not being that one sitting
Miriam Adney once stated, “You will never be completely at home again because part of your heart will always be elsewhere. That is the price you pay for the richness of loving and knowing people in more than one place.”
By assessing the personal meaning of events, emotion comes up. What’s more, positive emotions have not only a role of marking happiness, but also a function to continue
bad as I expected it to be. The queue seemed to flow by. Like fish in
And it seemed like after we moved, everyone else moved away, too and way farther than we did. Some to the West Coast, others to the East Coast, and our grandparents would move between here and Guam (and even Louisiana for a time). The parties happened less frequently, I recognized fewer people, and everyone always had a place to be. Even now, this house doesn’t feel like home. It’s empty, it’s someone else's place and we’re just living in it. Yet, that encourages me to hope for something more than this, dream of someplace better, strive to go places other than this and form bonds like the ones we had with the cousins we drifted
One of the key questions proposed in this study was addressing the relationship between emotional intelligence, its components and work performance of undergraduate hospitality students.
'Home is where the heart is'. I had heard this cliché so many times that I always thought it was overused. As I stepped out of the airport, a big wave of nostalgia took over. I don’t remember how long I was in a trance and how I reached the arrival zone before my mother’s excited voice made me realize I was finally here. There is something about airports. I think the cosmic energy tries very hard to delicately balance the joy of meeting a loved one and tearful goodbyes. Even then it sometimes fails when people like me cannot control their emotions and it becomes a very complicated, vigorous emotion of joy and separation all at the same time.
