When a person makes a bad choice the can continue to make bad choices. Many of the people that surround a person can have an effect of by the way they act and do things. If a person makes bad choices it can be corrected easily early on. Sometimes it can be too late. If family and friends help support a child they can provide a strong support base by helping them grow up into a stronger and more stable person in the big world.Therefore there are numerous factors that go into the molding process of a child’s mind and lifestyle. It is quite evident that a combination of life experiences and heredity determine who one eventually becomes. Some people are blessed by having a good childhood and coming from a loving and nurturing home, which allows them to flourish in society; yet there are others who come from similar backgrounds are unable of functioning in society. Then there are the people who are born into a dysfunctional family or go through a traumatic experience and are simply incapable of adapting to social norms because of what they have experienced. Despite knowing that a combination of the two shape who one becomes, it is unclear whether one of them has more influence than the other.
Throughout the book, Samenow states that most parents blame themselves for the way their children behave. A lot of the time parents are blamed by others for their child’s irresponsible actions, which then causes the parents to blame themselves. Children begin to make their own choices at a very early age, as they grow older the choices they make become more complex. Although parents can be very influential to a child, they cannot control the child’s mindset. The parenting techniques that parents use may play a small role in a child’s behavior, they do not create antisocial children. Parents need to stop blaming themselves whenever their children make bad choices because it is the child himself that makes that decision, not the parents.
Struggles with learning lessons in life can be challenging. Learning to make good choices in life and lead a life of righteousness can prove difficult, especially when dealing with family members who don’t make the right choices themselves. It’s hard to make good life choices when surrounded by people who are always making the wrong choice and lying. Parents should be respected, trustworthy and role models for developing minds of their children. Like life, not every choice can be black or white.

In childhood, it’s evident from the start that the parents are the ones who hold the power. As the child grows and develops, the parents show him that they are in control by correcting the things he does wrong and by making it clear that they know more than he does about life. Until the child is old enough to create his own ideals of what is right and what is wrong, the parents shape his ideals for him.
