The person I decided to focus on is Amy Winehouse. Amy is an extremely talented British singer and songwriter that died at a young age due to overindulgence of drugs and alcohol. Amy ironically took the world by storm from her powerful song ‘Rehab’ that entailed Amy singing “I don’t need to go to rehab, no, no, no”, which in the grand scheme of things could have saved her life. It is extremely unfortunate to lose such a talented artist at such a young age. The first five things I noticed about Amy Winehouse is her singing voice. She is by far one of the most talented female vocalist I’ve ever heard in my life. Needless to say, but even when she was in her worst stage of her addiction she was still ‘killing’ it on stage. Besides her voice I also remember her tragic death. Amy Winehouse is extremely talented. Every note she sung was perfectly in tune with the music and she brings life to people as they listen to her music. …show more content…
What is unfortunate is that her life was tragically taken so early on in her career. She could’ve prolonged her legacy and created more music for society to enjoy. Along with her death, I think about her song Rehab. ‘Rehab’ by Amy Winehouse is an interesting song, to say the least. I remember when I was a young middle schooler hearing the song and thinking “who is this mess and why do I love this song?”. It stood out to me because I remember shortly after the song was released everyone talked about how Amy desperately needed rehab because the longevity of her life depended on it. Amy not only has unforgettable music, but the genre of music she falls under stands out. Amy’s genre of music could be pinpointed as jazz, but it’s a little different from regular jazz.
Amy throws in hints of blues, with her own twang. Considering how talented she is as an artist, it is no surprise that she created her own concoction of ‘genre’. I don’t typically listen to jazz and that is what makes her so special to me. The last thing that stands out about Amy is her huge hair. Amy has hair that’s big and its stylish enough to be called a ‘statement’. In other words, Amy Winehouse has a silhouette that’s not hard to mistaken; her hair is essential to her overall brand. I don’t know many other artists that look like her, which makes it hard to miss her while in a crowd of people. The order of observations reveals something about the way I observe Amy. I ordered things in level of importance to me, such as her singing voice; she is my favorite female vocalist. Moving onto the last observation I noted, about Amy’s genre, doesn’t hold much importance to me or anything, but it’s one of the last things I think about when I think of
Amy. In regard to other people’s observations about Amy Winehouse, they basically listed the same things as me. Such as noting her talent (her voice), her appearance/hair, drug addiction/ death, but the one thing that someone noted different from me and everyone else’s answers was that she’s stick thin. One person told me that they listed things according to what they think society thinks of first when the name Amy Winehouse is brought up. Perspective is extremely interesting and important. Just because someone thinks of something a certain way doesn’t mean that it is fact or the only way of thinking.
At the beginning of the story, Amy is a gangly and awkward pre-teen, not caring what others think, playing in mud, and painting on her skin with the blue clay from the creek. As summer comes to an end, Amy stops dressing in her grungy t-shirts and cut off jean shorts, and more like her popular preppy friends at school, as it is more important to her that she wears what her friends wear, rather than what she likes to wear. At school, all of her friends’ names end with an “i”, so hers changes to
These attributes gave her the key to working with the most notable producers, script writers and musical producers in the history of Broadway. Her many shows gave her the opportunity to understand herself as a Broadway actress and her voice stands alone to all of the people who followed. Her voice will live on in theaters and she will continue to remain a pinnacle of Broadway history.
You can see her influence in most of today’s art. I grew up on Janet’s music and I simply love each era of her work. To me, Janet is more than a singer, she is a true artist.
Not only a great singer, she taught herself how to play the guitar and the harp, and
“You'll never do a whole lot unless you're brave enough to try”-Dolly Parton. Most people only know her because of her music, which is very inspirational, however she has done so much more. She is always looking for ways to give back because she knows what it like to not have much. She loves to help kids in need. Dolly Parton is one of the most inspirational people in the world, and her influence has affected so many people that her legacy will live on long after she's gone.
Entitled "The First Lady of Song," Ella Fitzgerald was the most famous female jazz singer in the United States for about more than half a century. In her life time, she won more than 10 Grammy Awards, and also earned the title “The First Lady of Song.”Her voice was flexible, wide-ranging, prefect and ageless. She could sing sultry ballads, jazz, blue, and imitate every several instruments. She worked with all the jazz musicians, like Duke Ellington,Frank Sinatra, Dizzy Gillespie and even Benny Goodman. Without a doubt there is one major performer that certainly stands out within our pop culture world. The name of this very famous American icon is, Dolly Parton. Dolly has surpassed any rags to riches story that ever lived. She has touched the lives of so many individuals over many decades through her many talents. Dolly started her career at a very young age and continued fulfilling her life endeavors through country music, pop music, and even acting. This American icon didn’t stop with just her talents, she also gave back to our society through charity, fundraising, and establishing her own theme park. Dolly Parton was brought up in a very poor family, however through much dedication she became the famous icon everyone idolized today.
Around 2003, Winehouse began developing a reputation as an unstable party girl, often showing up to her club or TV performances too drunk to sing a whole set. Even her most popular song “Rehab” is based off her refusal to receive treatment for her drug abuse. Winehouse’s health greatly deteriorated. Her weight dropped to a scary estimate of ninety-five pounds while her skin took on a sickly pallor. Her iconic beehive hair fell dull and limp along with her bold signature makeup. There are countless photographs of the singer walking the streets of London in an incoherent, strung out daze appearing as a shell of her former self. In addition, the drug abuse took a serious mental toll on Winehouse. Her behavior became violent and erratic; on multiple occasions she is documented fighting with fans. The various drugs in Amy’s system distorted her public image, career, but most importantly her
Does Amy’s beauty and mystique represent something deeper? In Katherine Anne Porter’s “Old Mortality,” there is an obvious obsession amongst most of the novella’s characters with Amy’s beauty. Most of the female characters throughout the novella are often compared to Amy by her family’s elders. These characters are often described as coming close to embodying Amy’s beauty (or not at all), but it is generally recognized that no one will ever be able to be quite as beautiful as Amy was. While there are a few descriptions of Amy’s physical appearance throughout the novella, there seems to be more of a focus on her careless behavior. Many of the novella’s central figures identify this kind of behavior as something that contributed to her charm

...itely assumed is that Janis is a legend, who will never be forgotten. Just like the old blues singers whom she idolized, Janis will remain firmly etched into the memory of all those who were there during her time at Rock's Pantheon. This memory has also been passed down to a whole new generation, who are at last appreciating records by an artist who could sing without state-of-the-art technology. Today, Janis' albums have gone gold, platinum and triple platinum. Her Greatest Hits Album still tops the charts on the American Billboard, and numerous compilation albums have been released since her death, including the box-set "Janis". She has been the subject of a feature documentary "Janis" (1973), more recently VH1s "Legends", and a film of her life is currently under discussion. Three decades on and still, few other women could've earned the nickname "Pearl" so well.
Whitney Houston to most was a very amazing and talented person who allowed life and its mishaps break her down. As a young girl she grew up in the church where she felt like it was a sign from God that she should be singing. Freud believes that religion is an illusion, an attempt to gain control over the external world. In his eyes saying that anything is a sign from God depends on how you vision life. There were times in her life where she would produce more music just to get thru the thing that she would be going through. She would use her music as a defense mechanism to get away from all of the abuse, problems with her marriage, neglect, and drugs. Defense mechanisms are ways to distort reality to reduce anxiety: Rationalization is giving a positive reason to a stressor and regression is withdrawing from reality and going to pastime.
Whitney Houston is considered one of the greatest singers of our generation. According to the Guinness Book of World Records, she holds the record of being the most rewarded female artist of all time. I chose her as my topic, because she represents resiliency and tenacity, despite her troubled experiences with drugs and her personal life. Whitney Houston comes from a family with an amazing, musical pedigree; her mother, Cissy Houston, was a successful back-up singer for Aretha Franklin and Elvis Presley. Dionne Warwick is her first cousin, and Aretha Franklin is her godmother.
Back on November 16th 2010 a friend of Adele’s, going by the name of xxxxWGDxxxx played a small part in shaking up the music world. This was the date Adele’s friend logged on to YouTube and uploaded a clip of her singing her new song “Someone Like You” on Jools Holland. The video soon gained thousands of views and likes along with comments saying something along the lines of "wow". There was something about the 22-year-old that captured everyone’s interest. Was it how she stood there and sang displaying her diva-like confidence or wearing her heartache on her sleeve? Adele had matured as an artist since the success of her debut album, 19. Suddenly, everyone became
