Friends from the other side, amigos del otro lado in spanish, is an illustrated book written by Gloria Anzaldúa and illustrated by Consuelo Méndez, the book was published by Children’s Book Press a branch of Lee and Low Books in 1993. I obtained this books at the McAllen Public Library on November 18. The book follows Prietita a young Mexican-American girl from South Texas who befriends a Mexican boy named Joaquin, he crossed the border with his mom because of the situation of their country, a friendship develops between them and show us how Pritetita is free of prejudices and full of compassion. 2 The illustrator of this book was Consuelo Méndez, a Venezuelan painter and graphic artist whose work is widely exhibited in Latin American.
