“We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal”(paragraph 2). Oh how these words so plain and simple, could start such a revolution. A revolution against one of the greatest military mights of our time. But why? Why would we stand up to Great Britain? Because we can no longer lay down as our oppressors beat and whip our brothers. Doing the right may not always be easy, but it still needs to be done. Often it is the oppressed to carry out justice to the unjust. We must be the liberators of the weak and lonely. But how could we do this great good if we do not liberate ourselves? Let us rebel! British Parliament has kept us from our full potential the moment our fathers first landed on this land. They have not allowed
us to build factories and govern ourselves. Do they think us dumb and unable to attend to our own affairs? I tell you no! Britain has not allowed us to grow because they are afraid of what we can become. This is why we are oppressed and taxed ruthlessly. This is why there are more redcoats in Boston then citizens. This is why we need to rebel. Why should we stay a simple pawn in a game we have no interest in playing? Many across the Colonies have heeded the call to arms. These brave souls have been regarded as heroes. Many support the cause they fight for, but none lend a helping hand. We need to support these brave men and women with more than our approval. Benjamin Franklin once said, “We must all hang together, or assuredly we shall all hang separately.” There is no better time than this. Our time of truth is at hand. We must throw the tea overboard or be thrown overboard ourselves. We can no longer stand idly by while our brothers pave the way. We must press onward and upward toward freedom. We have been insulted, abused, and mistreated. Parliament has clearly showed us what they think of us. Nothing! How then can we continue to live like this? Many fear war and what it can do to one's family. They have every right to do so. But those that continue forward for freedom will find their reward. “These are the times that try men’s souls,” (Paine). Those that raise a sword to strike one of us down will find more in his place. We shall show the world what freedom truly is. There has been no nobler cause to give one's life to. Those in the Boston massacre and at Lexington will not die in vain. We will finish what they started. If we do not act in freedom and rebel, their lives would have been for not. How then could we meet our maker and tell Him that we have done all we can to rid evil in this world? The time is now. We can’t wait “until our enemy has bound us hand and foot”(Henry). We must show the world the way to freedom. We must make the world a better place. The only way we could do this if we start with the tyranny around us.

Patrick Henry’s statements resonates with the colonists because it adequately captures their grievances and feelings against the British, who have made their lives exceedingly difficult. The Declaration of Independence (1776) was written to proclaim the colonists’ independence from Great Britain and announce the rights of its citizens and the role of government, among other declarations. The most famous phrase “…all men are created equal”, authored by Thomas Jefferson, was a statement affirming that tyranny under the rule of King George III and the English Parliament would be met with opposition by the colonists who would protect their liberties in the new republic.
In 1776 the founding fathers of America wanted freedom from Great Britain. For example, Henry states, “give me liberty, or give me death (Henry 243).” This quote shows freedom because Henry says he wants freedom and if he doesn’t get it, he’ll die fighting for it. Jefferson also says “That all men are created equal; that they are endowed by their creator with certain unalienable rights (Jefferson 240).” Jefferson’s quote portrays equality saying, all men have equal rights that can’t be taken away. The visions of the founding fathers showed that Great Britain was controlling and they had nothing to themselves.
Revolutions are usually described as “radical” events. A “radical” event is defined as one that greatly changes the political, cultural, social, and/or economic nature of a society. I believe that the American Revolution was a radical event that dramatically changed our society. There were many impacts to the changes such as slavery, primogeniture, the Articles of Confederation, republican motherhood, and government. This was the time in life, that we as America gained our independence from Britain. The American Revolution is what shaped our world to become what it is today.
It is my honor to speak before the House of Representatives and Senate and officially state that Mexico and the United States have signed the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo. This treaty ends the Mexican-American War as Mexico has agreed to cede all regions that rightfully belong to the United States of America. The Mexican-American War started in April of 1846 and ended yesterday in February of 1848. I consider the war against Mexico as a conflict that largely benefited the United States. President James Polk and all of my fellow US Congressman were reasonable and justifiable to dictate that Mexico obstructed and interfered with the freedom and rights of the citizens in our beautiful nation, specifically in Texas. The Mexican general, Santa Anna, sent troops to invade one of the Union’s state, Texas, and the act is clearly an attack against the United States. In this speech, I will address to the critics of the war the facts, reasons and my clarifications to justify that the United State’s action to declare war against Mexico was reasonable.
Thomas Paine’s writings reminded the colonists of ideas, like that it was “better [to] have too much force than too little, when so great an object [was] at stake” (p.118). In regards to Britain’s intentions, Paine wrote, “the cunning of the fox is as murderous as the violence of the wolf; and we ought to guard equally against both” (p. 119). Because he was in favor of the American Revolution, Thomas Paine’s writings painted Britain as an insidious force working against them, which convinced many colonists of the need for a revolution against Britain and reminded the soldiers to keep fighting their hardest. Emotional statements about the damage Britain was inflicting were used alongside loaded words such as “conquest” (p. 119), “tyranny” (p. 117), and “violence” (p. 119) to get Thomas Paine’s ideas on the actions of the British Parliament across in a powerful manner. The document’s influence on troops and colonists may have provided the extra bit of motivation that it took to win the American Revolution.

In the third section of the Declaration Of Independence states all the wrongs the people thought the king of England did to them. The colonists thought the king was treating them unfairly. For example he refused to approve laws that would help the colonists. He also made them pay taxes without their consent along with forbidding trade with other countries. They tried to talk to the king about their complaints but he ignored them. All of this made the colonists very angry. In this section the colonists write that they have had it with Britain’s Tyranny Rule.

We have to be loyal subjects of the English Crown, that is how it’s always been, and that’s the way it should be. These radicals are crazy. I read Mr. Paine’s Common sense pamphlets on how England has been a tyrant, that we should declare our freedom, but how can a country of farmers and land workers beat England. It’s not possible. The British will surely crush us, they are too powerful. I heard that General Washington, lost to General Howe, which we are out numbered and will surely be defeated. I don’t want no war, Roy was just recruited to enlist, I know that next time it will be me and the chances don’t look good for me returning. I wish these crazy radicals would stop this war, so we could return to how the way things were before.
