The American Revolution was the first time in US history that the people stood side by side to defeat a common enemy. It caused a dramatic shift in the American Society. The pre-colonists looked towards the king when problems arose, but now had to find solutions to their own problems. After the revolution, the US was faced with the pressures of setting up a government, shifts in the social society, and an independent economy. The first step after the revolutionary war was to establish their government. Before the war, each colony was governed in separate ways. Different ideas were proposed to govern the new country, but the main idea was not allowing a absolute power exist. The first idea was the Articles of Confederation. Over a short period of time, it showed that it cause many problems. When Bacons Rebellion broke out, could not afford an army to put the rebellion at bay, since the government had no income. It wasn’t allowed to tax the people. Eventually the articles were appealed and the constitution was put into development. After many compromises, the Constitution was ratified. …show more content…

The revolution gave hope for women. The roles of women expanded during the Revolution. Women defended and ran the farm while the men were off fighting during the war. Abigail Adams wrote to her husband in 1776 to remember the ladies while writing the Bill of Rights. Her ideas were shot down when her husband, John Adams, responded with that they know better than to give up their masculine system. After a mistake, the women had a right to vote in Virginia, but this was quickly fixed. The role of women was questioned, but it would take many years for women’s suffrage to take place. Religion also benefitted from the revolutionary war. Freedom of religion was granted to all US
