American Red Cross Self Awareness Essay

The American Red Cross is a charity that helps people prevent, prepare for, and respond to emergencies, they provide relief to victims of disasters, supporting military families, supplies blood and blood products, and health and safety services. These are just a few positeive thigs they do. The American Red Cross has locations all over the United States but they also have a branch in Dubuque.
The American Red Cross helps prevent, prepare for, and responds to emergencies. In the spring of this year The American Red Cross installed 2,500 smoke alarms across its Iowa region. In doing this the red cross hopes to reduce the amount of deaths in house fires. In June of this year the American Red Cross responded to an Ames Iowa apartment fire. The

American Red Cross provided the victims with Debit cards and hygiene kits.
The American Red Cross also helps with providing relief to victims of disasters.

In July of 2016 a tornado went through Vinton Iowa so they provided shelter and basic needs so they can be comfortable even though their items are destroyed. So far sincea Hurricane Matthew the American Red Cross provided 85,000 overnight stays in shelters. They also deployed 225 response vehicles to hard hit areas. They also distributed over 78,000 relief items. That is all from donations from people of the United States.
The American Red Cross also helps and supports Military famalies. They do it all from emergency communications to Services to Veterans. Our Veterans mean a lot to this country so when ever someone supports them they need to get a lot of recognition. They help them with getting food, shelter, jobs, financial help, and even mental health counseling.
Have you ever heard of a blood drive well the American Red Cross are the ones that put that on. Blood is the most imprtant fluid in the human body. If you don’t have enough blood than your heart cant pump it so that means your brain doesn’t get the blood and so you can go brain dead but if someone donates the correct type of blood than you can become healthy again. There are very strict requirements but they are there for your safety because if you don’t weigh enough and you take out a pint of blood than you can faint and get knocked out and seriously

injured.
They also provide classes on CPR. CPR can be lifesaving if someone isn't breathing and you are waiting for emergency services to show up. If you know CPR than you can start it and try to get the person not breathing, breathing again. They also provide babysitting classes so kids can learn how to babysit and care for kids if emergencies happen. They also provide life guard classes so that everyone can be safe and go home at the end of the day after a fun day at the pool.
The only concern about this charity is there are rumors that the American Red Cross is taking the money that is donated and not using it for the emergencies. If they actually were taking the money than how could they help all these different causes and still get a whole bunch of volunteers.
