Music is an important component in our lives, which is everywhere we turn to these days. Music has evolved and expanded from the 1960s to present day and we still have yet to discover the full potential and growth of music in the coming years due to skilled music artist in all music genres. One quality many people can share is their love from music regardless of what type of music is preferred by the individual. Music is powerful in itself because it helps communicate with other social groups, can have an influence on our mood, and portrays our culture or any other important aspects of our life. Without the countless efforts of all the talented music artists, we would not have such incredible music being contributed to our history and the world of humanities.
Marshall Bruce Mathers III, also known as Eminem is considered to be a famous record producer, American rapper, actor, and songwriter ("Marshall Bruce Mathers III"). Eminem struggled throughout his childhood years by switching numerous schools and homes. He eventually dropped out of school after he had failed the ninth grade three times to focus on what he liked to do best, which was writing music and rap. Even though he was never really good at school, “ Eminem found a way to express his passion for language, as well as to release his youthful anger through the emerging musical genre of hip hop” ("Marshall Bruce Mathers III "). During the late 1980s and early 1990s, most rap music was produced and sung by black people. Both these musician artists are extraordinary, because they share common factor, which is also their best quality. In their early life, both music artists have had their own story to tell about their complications and struggles. These artists have done a wonderful job managing and finding their path of success and also contributing their talent to the world of humanities for song lovers to enjoy and appreciate every day. Music is something that is important in our lives; it gives the color to an ordinary black and white picture. With music, we can express our feelings, share our thoughts and imagine what can’t be.

While Eminem portrays himself as being from Detroit, he is actually from Missouri. He moved back and forth between Detroit, Michigan and Kansas City, Missouri for most of his childhood. At the age of seventeen, Eminem started getting serious about wanting to be a rapper, giving himself the nickname M&M (meaning Marshal Mathers) and later decided to change the spelling to Eminem with the second E backwards as part of his trademark. He failed 9th grade 3 times, then dropped out, “School wasn’t for me” (Eminem). An education was the last thing on his mind. After throwing himself into the rap world on many levels, usually being shut down, he kept trying.
Tupac Shakur - His Impact on American Culture Tupac Shakur was a very influential person in the 20th century. He was born on June 16, 1971 in Brooklyn New York, and died on September 13, 1996 in Las Vegas Nevada (unknown author, no title, no page, letter code C). He eventually ended up in the Bay Area California alone and spent his first two years there homeless (unknown author, no title, n.p., letter code D). Music has presented itself in various forms throughout its spread and through our identification of its magical realm, people have been fortunate enough to come across a means of relation. Whether it is blues and reggae or rap and pop rock, there is music out there for everyone. Music can serve as a stabilizer for some, a relaxant to others, and to many a form of inspiration.
Marshall Bruce Mathers III, better known as rap performer Eminem, was born on October 17, 1972, in Kansas City, Missouri (Lane). From the very first days of his life, Marshall suffered many hardships. When Eminem was only six months old, Marshall Mathers Jr., Eminem’s dad left his family to move to California and contact between them ended. Eminem and his mom Debbie Nelson moved frequently and often lived in poor, crime- ridden neighborhoods (Lane). Eminem was born in Kansas City moved to live in detroit where he experienced a lot of violence and bullying. When he was in the fourth grade, he was often tormented by a sixth-grade bully named D’Angelo Bailey. Bailey made his life miserable through constant bullying and beatings. Bailey’s most severe beating, which landed Eminem in the hospital with a cerebral hemorrhage, was immortalized on the track “Brain Damage” from The Slim Shady LP (Lane). When Eminem was nine his Uncle Ronnie gave him a gift that would change his life. The gift was a soundtrack to a breakdancing-exploitation movie called Breaking’ It (Lane). It contained the track “Reckless by Ice T, the first rap song Eminem ever heard (Lane). From there, Eminem started liking rap and became more and more fascinated over the years. Although as Eminem was trying to get into rapping, he faced a lot of discrimination against him for being white but his talent and support from his friends helped him go through it. At the age of seventeen, Eminem dropped out of school with his interest of school completely overshadowed by his love of rap and he moved in with his girlfriend, Kimberly Scott. In conclusion, although both individuals had vastly different lives and origins, along with what they did with their lives, they are bonded in one way: their greatest accomplishments are music. Throughout time, nothing can change the song that lay within or lies within their hearts, and that showed in all pieces that they wrote.
Music has been around since the very beginning of time. The human body flows in a rhythmic syncopation. Music is used to change one’s mood and to inspire those who open their minds. It has the potential to cure diseases such as Parkinson’s disease. Humans, of every culture and society, function with a type of rhythmic music. He was the child of Bruce Mathers, Jr. and Deborah Nelson. Soon after Marshall’s birth his father left to California. His mother struggled to maintain a household, for which the result was frequent movement from Michigan and Missouri. The family then settled in Warren, Michigan in an African American middle-class neighborhood. The family was the only Caucasian tenants through the region. Marshall was a tall, scrawny, and white male that stood out amongst his peers, of African Americans, and was constantly bullied for his color. In addition his mother was an abusive drug addict who took prescription pills. Eminem then inclined to the interest of hip-hop listening to his first rap song at nine—"Reckless" featuring Ice-T. Later in his life he suffered family loss, like his Uncle Ronnie who committed suicide. Mathers became mute and antisocial for weeks. In high school he dropped out for repeating ninth-grade for his third time, for poor grades, and pursued lyrical writing. Marshall then joined rap groups and freestyles gaining success in the predominantly black industry. He then adapted to the name “M&M” as his rapper name, which later evolved to “Eminem”. Eminem’s adversities affected many of his works throughout his life and career. Music plays a huge role in the structure of a society. It can have both negative and positive influence on cultures and communities. First, musical sounds and instruments can be a dividing factor between the people within the same culture. These opposing social and economic identities within these cultures can lead unnecessary animosity between the members. However, music can also be one of the forces that unite members of a culture and provide a sense pride for everyone. This makes it easier for people to display their identification to that culture.
