The National Museum of the American Indian is an active and visible component of the Smithsonian Institution, the world's largest museum complex. It carries one of the world's greatest collection of Native artifacts, photographs, and historical records expanding from the Western Hemisphere and so on. The museum is located in the financial district of downtown Manhattan, Bowling green to be exact, the building is huge and the area surrounding it even on a chilly day looks nice.
Museum Ambassador Ruth Rosenberg whos voice was gentle just not the loudest voice to hear in a large group of people gave us a 45-minute tour through the exhibition “Infinity of Nations.” It consisted of more than two hundred art pieces chosen out of seven hundred
objects of cultural, historical, and aesthetic importance from the center of George Gustav Heye in New York City. The phrase is taken from reports by the Intendant of New France to his superiors in which he describes the lands north and west of Lake Superior as being filled with an “infinity of nations.” One of the pieces I considered memorably was a white dress with gray flowers on each shoulder called ”Jingle dress.” Maria Hupfield is a Canadian artist who through her sculptures and performances demonstrates with other international artist her ongoing commitment to Native American communities. Being Anishinaabe-kwe and a member of Wasauksing First Nation. The dress is composed of lined notebook paper, each ruffle or as the artist calls ”jingle” is inscribed with the name of an indigenous writer because writing is a craft that not many people can do which I agree. The change of lighting from light to dark made this piece stand out. At first glance, it's obviously 3 bulls one in the left side, the second in the middle and the third on the right glowing in neon lights nothing special. Besides the color red signifying anger and passion what does ”Father, Son, Holy Ghost” mean?. The bulls signify the imposition/adoption of Christianity among the native people. The horns bringing ”Thorny” questions about a different belief system, how supposedly the Christian religion takes away from Native American tradition and spirituality. I went in with an open mind, even found it easier to learn by observing and reading the small captions than having someone teach me. Although it's impossible to find every piece amusing since everyone has their own depiction of ”ART” yet every piece in the exhibit to me was cool. Not in the sense of it being breathtaking or astonishing but because of the uniqueness, everything told a different story, gave a new understanding of the culture which sets it apart.

Douglas Rabb, provides the beginning of an in-depth analysis of Native American cultural philosophy. On April 14, 2017 my mom and I visited the Montclair Art Museum. Upon entering, I observed the beautiful neoclassical architecture and roman cathedral like columns outside of the museum. Located on Bloomfield Ave, just miles from New York City, the Montclair Art Museum holds some of the best American and Native American art works. The different galleries and collections along with the breathtaking sculptures, paintings, and carvings added to my positive experience and I look forward to further exploring the world of art.
In his essay, “The Indians’ Old World,” Neal Salisbury examined a recent shift in the telling of Native American history in North America. Until recently, much of American history, as it pertains to Native Americans; either focused on the decimation of their societies or excluded them completely from the discussion (Salisbury 25). Salisbury also contends that American history did not simply begin with the arrival of Europeans. This event was an episode of a long path towards America’s development (Salisbury 25). In pre-colonial America, Native Americans were not primitive savages, rather a developing people that possessed extraordinary skill in agriculture, hunting, and building and exhibited elaborate cultural and religious structures.
The Metropolitan Museum of Art has one of the finest Asian art collections that has enlightened and strengthened my understanding in my personal art experience. The Museum itself is an artistic architectural structure that graces the entire block on 82nd Street in Manhattan. Entering inside, I sensed myself going back into an era, into a past where people traded ideas and learned from each other. It is a past, where I still find their works of yesteryears vividly within my grasp, to be remembered and shared as if their reflections of works were cast for the modern devoted learner.
Texas Indians were very unique in their culture and way of life. The Texas Indians had a unique social order; physical appearance, acquired subsistence in many different ways, and had many unique cultural practice. As a result, many historians study the native Indians in Texas with awe and amazement. With a deep and interesting analysis of the Texas Indians, historians can understand the people; and their way of life. Based on the text, “La Relacion” which was written by Alvar Nunez de Vaca, an analysis of said subject can be conducted.
For the past 50 years, the United States Government has been conducting disinformation campaigns against minority groups such as the Black Panther Party, Black Liberation Army and the Palestine Solidarity Committee. The American Indian Movement (AIM) was not an exception. Propaganda was only one of the many tactics adopted by the government that AIM encountered. Others include assassinations, unprovoked armed confrontations and "fabrication of evidence in criminal cases" (Churchill 219). I will be evaluating Ward Churchill's article "Renegades, Terrorists, And Revolutionaries" on the government's propaganda war against AIM and will also be analyzing his claims as well as some of his rhetorical strategies within his writing. Were the U.S. government and Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) really guilty of oppressing AIM as Churchill claims?

The Metropolitan Museum of Art came about as an idea from Jon Jay in Paris, France in 1866 with the idea of “national institution gallery of art” within the United States. Once this idea was proposed, it was immediately moved forward with his return to the United States. With the help of the Union League Club in NY they began to acquire civic leaders, businessmen, artists, and collectors who aided in the creation of the museum. For over 140 years, the visitors who go here have received everything the mission of the institution states.
American Indians once lived a prosperous and full life, relying on the bounty of land and nature. Colonization by white settlers disrupted this peaceful existence, uprooting tribes from their land and forcing them to assimilate to new cultural and religion views. Years of mistreatment and abuse led to the organization of the American Indian Movement to fight for their rights and liberty. Through the AIM, Indians attempted to gain recognition and spread knowledge of their culture and heritage to American citizens in order to attain a place in society. Leaders of the AIM created a manifesto of change in 1972 which listed goals they wanted to meet under three broad categories: economic, social and political. While the AIM was organized in response to the lack of basic rights and oppressive nature of the US government, their goals have yet to be met with any long term success.

When I visited the museum, it had a wide variety of exhibits and artworks. It had two temporary Exhibits. The first temporary Exhibit I had the pleasure of seeing was Peter Max’s 50 Years of Cosmic Dreaming, which is on display from June 10th thru September 11th. Max was born in Berlin, but has lived in China, Israel, and finally the United States. Max was a rising star in the 1960s, with a passion for astronomy, sages and spiritual life. His work is strongly “associated with pop art, neo-fauvism, and abstract expressionism” (Peter Max). Max’s artwork contains multiple United States symbols and cultural icons. In American Indian Stories, University of Nebraska Press Lincoln and London edition, the author, Zitkala-Sa, tries to tell stories that depicted life growing up on a reservation. Her stories showed how Native Americans reacted to the white man’s ways of running the land and changing the life of Indians. “Zitkala-Sa was one of the early Indian writers to record tribal legends and tales from oral tradition” (back cover) is a great way to show that the author’s stories were based upon actual events in her life as a Dakota Sioux Indian. This essay will describe and analyze Native American life as described by Zitkala-Sa’s American Indian Stories, it will relate to Native Americans and their interactions with American societies, it will discuss the major themes of the book and why the author wrote it, it will describe Native American society, its values and its beliefs and how they changed and it will show how Native Americans views other non-Natives.
The Museum of the American Indian is directly in front of the Bowling Green Park with a water fountain at the center. From the park view you can see the front of the museum. It has stone steps with statues on the sides. Walking in to the museum up the grand stairs led me to the entrance protected by security with metal detectors. Out of the various museums I’ve previously visited in NYC this was the first time I’ve encountered going through metal detectors, maybe because the museum is free and open to the public?
Why do Indian college students have high dropout rates? Why do Indian college students have hard times in college, and university atmospheres? Why do Indian college students have difficult times when it comes to making good grades? Maybe it’s because they have no role models in the home. Maybe they can’t relate to individuals with different cultures and backgrounds? Perhaps it is something simple as having poor study habits. The answers could Possibly be that Indian college students are just uncomfortable in a college environment, and don’t have an Indian studies program to go to, as in Reyhner’s essay. Whatever the reason may be Indian college students are scarce within the college scene, just as Indian people are in the United States of America.
