Introduction: Christianity is full of beneficial scriptures that is aimed to help people connect with God and find inner-peace and happiness. Followers of Christianity experience the positive change of behavior because through faith in Christ and the aspirations to act as he did, Christians can learn to live as sin-less as possible. Belief in Christ guarantees salvation to Christians thanks to Jesus’ sacrifice for humanity. God is an all-powerful being who cares deeply for humanity, mankind’s purpose is to have faith in Christ and God. After the fall of humanity and the creation of sin, mankind desperately needed salvation. Jesus is humanity’s savior and faith in him leads to salvation and the restored connection with God, finally through …show more content…
Faith in Christ guarantees salvation or for better terms, eternal life. Brian Janz states in his article, “As Christians, we can go through our life knowing exactly what will happen after we die.” (2017, p. 26). To many, death is a great mystery. Christians can feel comfortable and at peace with their lives because they know that God will accept them as long as they keep their faith in Christ. Some concerning things about Christianity is not the religion itself, but the people who follow it. Many Christians today are not what the bible intends for them to be, and it is creating a negative connotation with Christianity. Stephen Mattson in his 2013 article explains it well, “American Christians have forgotten how to dialogue and respectfully disagree. We’ve abandoned concepts like grace, humility and love and have devolved into critics instead of encouragers, instigators instead of peacemakers, debaters instead of friends, and reactionists instead of innovators” (p.3). What he is trying to say is that many self-proclaimed Christians are going directly against what God wants his children to be. To love and accept, as Jesus did, is vital to the core beliefs of Christianity. Christianity is important to many people because it has the power to change an individual for the better. There is quite a lot of evidence that proves much of the Bible and it is causing many people to realize that Christ was a person who lived a sinless …show more content…
I have subscribed to its beliefs, and even though I never considered myself a Christian, I realize that I have lived much of my life the way that Jesus would want me to. Now I believe that Jesus died for our sins, and I have faith in him to provide guidance for me and my goals in life. To hold a grudge is an unfamiliar concept to me, I consistently give people as many chances as they need because that is what Jesus asks of humanity. I believe that anybody can change for the better, even if Christianity is not a piece in that equation. Through love and forgiveness, I believe peace can be found in any situation and I intend on believing in that mindset as well as applying it in my life as best as I possibly
It is clearly evident that the five principal beliefs in Christianity, the divinity and humanity of Jesus, the death and resurrection of Jesus, the nature of God and the trinity, the revelation and salvation all deeply impact on and influence the lives of its adherents.
The Christian faith focuses on the orientation of the human heart behind human thoughts and actions. Living by faith is a beautiful alternative to the way people think of themselves and the way they live in relation to others in their daily lives (Merrick, 2014). Christians see themselves in terms of God’s profound love for them but not in terms of what they do. The teachings of the Christian faith; nonviolence, non-retaliation, inward integrity, selflessness, and love your neighbor as yourself provide the framework for ethical thinking. Although, adopting belief in Christianity can bring forth confusion in the heart and mind causing agony of learning to sacrifice one’s rightful claims for personal justice for the restoration of another (Merrick, 2014). Unconditional forgiveness is difficult to understand because spiritual forgiveness and actual costly forgiveness is viewed as the same in the gospel. If you do not forgive, then one does not have faith in God’s forgiveness as it really is. Christianity influences a person thinking and behavior developing wisdom which requires faith. The faith that is needed to reorient the heart away from selfishness to selflessness.
Christianity has grounded our lives in the living God as revealed through Jesus. This belief must be a choice people make as well as a gift we all receive within the Christian community. Christians must trust in and rely upon God as the source of everything in their lives. Faith is about believing in the trinity; God, Jesus the Son of God, and the Holy Spirit as three in one. Christians follow Jesus’ teachings and answer the call to be his disciples in the world. Christian faith is looking forward to joining God in the future and entering into the coming kingdom that God has promised His followers through Jesus. Christians join together in reflecting with each other in the Christian community about the good news of God’s love through Jesus Christ. Christians believe in the “new life in Christ,” which is the gift of God’s grace; such rebirth and personal assurance gives all new eyes to see the living truth in Scripture. The Christian worldview may differ in different denominations of Christianity but only exist because of their belief of God and Jesus.
Christianity is considered to be a living religion especially in terms of the reach for salvation. In the present through the practice of Baptism, Christians believe they die to the life of Original Sin and are born again to Christ, thus able to achieve Salvation. Thus, the tradition and sacred ritual of baptism implies that in order to be active adherents in the Catholic church, one must be baptised, just as Jesus was in the New Testament, “Peter said to them, Repent, and be baptised every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ.” (Acts 2:38) Another way in which baptism demonstrate that Christianity is a living religious tradition, is through the teachings associated with the purpose of human existence. Through the act of Baptism, which is a direct display of the belief in Salvation through Jesus, the purpose of human life is presented in terms of adherent’s purpose to lov...
Christian Influence on the Progress of American Society. Charissa Bogner, Korissa Murphy, and Britni Killingsworth. Throughout history, standing up for our rights has been a big part of America’s growth in regards to women’s rights, segregation, taxation, religion.etc. However, with the expansion of America over the last few hundred years, Americans have gone from respecting others’ point-of-views to being offended when those point-of-views that differ are shared. “We often hear it said that ‘if your religious beliefs work for you, that’s great, but don’t impose them on others’”.
In Christianity, the emphasis is placed on love of God rather than on obeying his will. People must believe that God is merciful and loves them as well. As a reflection of God’s love, people must also love other people (and the whole humanity in general) and forgive their enemies.
The Christian worldview is centered on the Gospel and places their beliefs in the essential teachings of the Trinity, the deity of Jesus Christ, and Jesus’ resurrection from the dead (DiVincenzo, 2015). This paper will explain who God is and what he created, what our purpose and nature is as humans, who Jesus was and what he did while on earth, how God plans to bring his people back into the right relationship with himself, and as a Christian how one is to live their life with an analysis of the Christian worldview.
My family taught me about Jesus at a young age, so I always knew I wanted to have a close relationship with him. Knowing that God is going to have my back no matter what was the best feeling to me. He will never leave a person or turn his back on them. The fact that the Bible guides people is one of the amazing things to me because one scripture can change a person whole life. My discourse community teaches a person about faith, love, and everything a person will ever need in life. Jesus encourages people, and supports people when they fail. Being a Christian motivates me and gives me a meaning of life. Being saved is easy, but the hard part is following his guidelines. He knows people are going to make a lot of mistakes in life, but the fact that he doesn’t judge them is amazing. Accepting Christ means a person has escaped that judgment and therefore they will have external life. Being a part of this discourse community has brought me to a new place in life, and for that I am
The rise of Christianity in western civilization is arguably among the most important memories in history. There is no denying what the spread of Christianity has done for the world, for better or worse. Its impact on western civilizations is unrivaled and unprecedented. Christianity slowly became something for many individuals to turn to; in times of hurt it provided comfort, in times of pleasure it gave thanks. The will and belief for salvation has driven individuals to be better, and to have a reference while in need.
What is Christianity all about? What are the basic beliefs of Christianity and how did it begin? According to (AllAboutReligion, 2010),” Christianity began about 2000 years ago in Judea, [presently known today as Israel] with Jesus Christ and His faithful group of disciples”. This paper will address the viewpoint of the Christian faith and its outcome. The central message of Christianity is based upon the teachings of Jesus and his promises. Christianity teaches that there is merely one God in all existence and that God created the universe. It also teaches that Jesus is the only way to be set free from the coming judgment of God and that Jesus desires his values and his standards to abound. Moreover, Christianity is the only religion that offers a savior. Religion has been in every culture since the beginning of human society and there are many religions competing for the heart of humanity throughout the world at large. The following characterizations are based on the Christian faith: redemption, covenant and grace. Although Christianity is a matter of choice for the human race, what type of influence did it have on the China, Africa, and Rome inhabitants?
He carries with Him the transcendence that comes only with God Himself. Therefore, His work on our behalf makes our salvation sure. Jesus, the God-man, has atoned for our sins. We can place our confidence in Him because of His divine nature” (7). This is the ultimate application of the gospel of John. John is a book that Christians need to read and gather as much information out of it as possible to share with others who do not believe in or have not heard of Jesus. The applications written in this book are for all to hear and for all to reap the benefits of. Jesus is the only one who can save humanity from the sin that we have brought upon ourselves in which the consequence is death. Jesus died on the cross so that we would not have to pay for our sins. God sacrificed His one and only son so that we may live eternally with Him in Heaven. According to the lesson on John, the Holy Spirit empowers Christians to provide the gospel message to others and share the love of Christ (Lesson 7.23.3). We are to allow the Holy Spirit to guide our actions so that the Lord might save as many as
In a world full of people who consider themselves Christians, people on the outside wonder what distinguishes Christians from everyone else. The hope for Christians is that others will see the differences in the behavior and attitudes. If not, one could question how Christian that person is. Conversely, viewing Christians who exemplify Christian qualities provides a strong example of Christian life is like. From an examination of consummate Christians such as William Wilberforce, Saint Augustine, and Mother Theresa, one can see the qualities that good Christians possess. Specifically, the fundamental characteristics of Christianity are the acceptance of Christ, a marked change in behavior and attitude, standing up for what is right, putting others first, and largely by imitating Christ in daily living.
On top of this, it is a fact that the number of affiliated Christians has been declining in the United States over the centuries. It seems that within the society around us, more and more people continue to acquire negative views towards Christianity. Whether this is just because as I grow older, these stances have become more apparent to me, or the fact that the age of the internet, where everyone can more easily express their thoughts, plays a big contributing factor, it remains safe to say that
The word love is mentioned in the Bible an average of 437 times, depending on the translation, so love is important to the basis of Christianity. One of the most profound pieces of Scripture discussing love is the overused John 3:16, which reads: “For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in him may not perish but may have eternal life” (The New Oxford Annotated Bible). This verse brings up the subject of sacrifice, reminding the audience that they have been saved through someone’s death and resurrection. Jesus was crucified so people he had never met would have eternal life in Him; He loved humanity so much that He was willing to die for us to save us. Since Jesus is wholly man and wholly God, we are also able to say that God loved humanity so much that He was willing to die for us to save us. Furthermore, God did not love just a few people, but rather, the entire world. Christ died for everyone, no matter each individual situation. He died for the believers and the non-believers. He died for the sinners and the saints. He died to save everyone for all
That being said, being a disciple of Jesus can be a challenge as so many people in the world sadly look to Christians to see where they fail. The world also has certain ideas that attack Christianity, such as individualism, consumerism and moral relativism. Individualism, which is where man puts himself as more important then God. This is totally the opposite of Christianity, because God is the ultimate Deity, reigning supreme over the world. He created the world, universe and everything after all. Consumerism is when man makes their identity in what they own, always wanting the next bigger and better product, such as a brand new car or phone. As Christians, our identity is in Christ, not what we own. Moral relativism is when there each person’s morals are right in their own eyes and there are no real absolutes of what is right and wrong. That is also a wrong way of thinking as God defines what is right and
