The American Black Bear is the smallest, yet most common species of Bear in North America. People have a propensity to think that Bears are very dangerous, especially to humans. In reality, Bears are harmless creatures, and have a very friendly demeanor.
Compared to all other types of bears, the American Black Bear is in the middle when it comes to size. It is smaller than a Polar Bear, but larger than a Sloth Bear. Black Bears vary in size depending on their location in the world, sex, how much food is available, the time of year, and their inherited genes.
Male and female Black Bears have an immense difference in size. Males tend to be anywhere from twenty to sixty percent larger than females. The length of a male Black Bear can range from fifty to seventy inches and their tail is approximately five inches long. The paws of a male Black Bear are extremely large; about ten inches long. Their weight can vary from two hundred fifty to five hundred pounds, but most male Black Bears weigh around three hundred fifty pounds.
The female Black Bear is fifty to fifty-five inches in length and their tail can range from three to four inches in length. A female’s paws are also quite large at about eight inches in length. A smaller female weighs about two hundred twenty-five pounds, but a larger female can weigh up to four hundred fifty pounds.
American Black Bears are covered with soft, long fur. Although they are called “Black Bears,” American Black Bears are not always black. They can range anywhere from a darker blonde color to jet-black. On the Western part of the United States, the Black Bears are normally a lighter color, whereas the Black Bears in the Center of the United States are darker. American Black Bears ar...

Grizzly bears live in a variety of environments .All of which includes dense forests, subalpine meadows, open plains and arctic tundra . In the past though, they could be found from Alaska to Mexico, and from California to Ohio. Though Nowadays there are efforts trying to make it so grizzly bears can make a comeback and the wild, and all of their efforts are proving to be working, there are 4 times as many grizzlies in the wild as there were in 1975, at
Although they are now rare, grizzly bears inhabit the dense forest of Montana’s Rocky Mountains. Grizzlies grow as tall as eight feet and can weigh up than 1,000 pounds, yet they can move as fast as a horse. There are six national grizzly recovery zones, and three are in Montana. They are Cabinet-Yaak, Northern Continental Divided, and Yellowstone (Av2 books).
For the lowland adult male gorilla measure up about 66.9 in. tall and weigh an average of 374 pounds, while adult female gorillas measure up about 59.1 in. height and her weigh is no more than 160 pounds. On the other hand, adult male mountain gorillas may weigh up to 484 pounds, and adult females weigh about 215 pounds. The adult male bonobos measure up to 4 feet tall and weigh an average of 85 pounds, while adult female bonobos measure up over 3 feet tall and weigh an average of 68 pounds. The adult male chimpanzees measure up to approximately 4 feet high, and weigh between 90 and 120 pounds, while the female chimpanzees weigh between 60 and 110 pounds. The adult male orangutan measure up to typically 4 ft. 6 in. tall and weigh around 165 pound, while the adult female orangutan measure up to 3 ft. 9 in. and weigh around 82 pounds. Male orangutans are approximately twice the size of the females. It is believed that the bigger size of males is because of the strong competition among males for females. The 12 species of gibbons are classified as lesser apes. They are relatively smaller, slender, and more agile than other apes. They exhibit many characteristics of primates, including flat faces, enlarged brain sizes, grasping hands and feet, arms longer than legs, no tails, and broad chests. Male gibbons are just under 3 ft. in length and weigh about 15 pounds. Furthermore, the evolution of Homo erectus showed more human examination
White tailed deer (Odocoileus virginianus) are one of the most common species of mammals seen in North America, the most common of large animals actually. The last official count of deer in the USA and Canada was done in 1982, at which time 15000000 were found at an average of 3 deer in every square kilometer. The deer are very much native and were hunted even by Native Americans.
Polar Bears are very different from other bears. Polar bears are very large bears compared to black bears. Polar bears weigh anywhere between 330-1700lbs. and Black bears weigh anywhere between 150-600lbs. They have strong legs with large, flattened feet with some webbing between their toes that help with walking on ice and swimming.
Whitetails usually grow to three and a half foot tall and weigh 50 to 400 pounds depending on whether it is male or female. The deer reaches its biggest size in the north, up to 4 feet tall and 400 pounds, and it's smallest in the south, where they barely weigh more than 50 pounds. During the summer and fall their fur is reddish brown and during the winter and spring it is blue-gray.
When you think of pandas the usual thought is of large black and white bears that are irresistibly cute. While that might be true, there is a lot more to pandas than that. Giant pandas may look cute and cuddly but can be aggressive and dangerous. Giant pandas stand 2-3 feet on all fours, and 4-6 Feet when standing up. Males weigh up to 250 pounds, and
Lions have relatively short-legged, long, muscular bodies and large heads. The male grows on average to 1.7 to 2.5 m (5.6 to 8.2 ft) long, not including the tail, which is 90 to 105 cm (36 to 41 in) in length. It stands 1.23 m (4 ft) high at the shoulder, and it weighs 150 to 250 kg (330 to 550 lb). The mane, which covers the head and neck, sometimes extends to the shoulders and belly. The mane will vary in color and length; well-fed, healthy lions have longer, fuller manes. Females are smaller but equally muscular. Lions vary in color from golden to brown. The mane of a male lion will vary from black to yellow. Both sexes have retractable claws to keep them sharp when they are needed. Lions have wide powerful jaws. The lions roar, which can be heard by humans up to 9 (5.6 miles) kilometers away, is usually uttered before the animals hunt in the evening, after a successful hunt, and again in the early morning.
The habitat is also made up of trees with nuts and bushes with berries. Black Bears are omnivores so they eat these along with other small animals. They are opportunist when it comes to food. Mostly bears eat vegetation during the spring but they will eat mainly anything they encounter. During the summer the bears eat salmon out of the rivers if they can catch it. If they can’t catch any they mainly survive off of berries, mainly blueberries, ants, grubs, and other insects. In the fall their diet starts to shift and they start to save up food for winter. They are also known to eat newborn moose calves during the winter when food is scarce.
Wolves weigh around 70-120 pounds, 26-34 inches in height at the shoulder and very lean and powerful. The wolf is a very social creature, which forms a bond with its pack. It is said, “When you look into their eyes, you can see their spirit.” When hunting they will strike as one, as they are very dynamically structured. A pack could consist of 6 or 7 members and as many as 15 wolves. Two members of the pack are parents, and the rest are the offspring from different seasons. The pack usually has a mated pair and their offspring. They care for their you...
The Siberian tiger measures 4.6 to 9.2 ft long, excluding the tail, which is 27 to 37 in long. The Siberian Tiger weighs 400 to 675 lb. It has thick yellow fur with dark stripes. The ears, eye patches, legs, and shoulder band are black. The rest of the body is whitish. Adults are 4 to 6 feet long and may weigh up to 350 pounds, about the same size as the American black bear. However, unlike the black bear, giant pandas do not hibernate and cannot walk on their hind legs. The giant panda has unique front paws-one of the wrist bones is enlarged and elongated and is used like a thumb, enabling the giant panda to grasp stalks of bamboo. They also have very powerful jaws and teeth to crush bamboo.
