Throughout American history, it’s society has glorified the idea of being gritty and its virtues, such as perseverance, toughness, and courageousness. These ideas were apart of the American man that settled land from the east the west coasts, built business from the ground up, worked multiple jobs to singly support his family, or if need be, go off to war. Today, these virtues have spread much further throughout society, but have started to take backlash from camps of people who see life’s potential more developed by the quality of a person’s environment, rather than seeing how well someone can adapt to broken situations. Companies like Google, Facebook, and Amazon all sport “dog-friendly offices, workforces that skews young and male, on site farmers’ market and upbeat posters” that portrait the new era of all encompassing, supportive company landscapes. The difference between these companies lays on the inside. While “Google and Facebook motivate employees with gyms, meals and benefits... ‘designed to take care of the whole you’”, Amazon has shifted away from this new rising philosophy, and runs its workplace with one simple word: grit. Amazon became the “the most valuable retailer in the country, with a market value of $250 billion” by putting each one of their employees against the exceedingly high standard of Amazon’s Leadership Principles. These standards include principles such as “ownership( No. 2) or mastery of every element of their businesses, and ‘dive deep,’ (No. 12) or find the underlying ideas that can fix problems or identify new services before shippers even ask for them.” Amazon’s rigorous standards breeds a high stress environment that keep employees always on edge and in competition with fellow employees to keep turning out good work “just to stay ahead of the executioner’s blade”. For women, almost every aspect of their life is critiqued. Women “must learn to be hungry” or fear ridicule for having “hairy legs and armpits”. Pain, mental or physical, is everywhere in a woman 's life, even beyond what their shamed constantly for from “the pain of rejection.... the pain of recovery... the pain of nursing... the pain of arguing with your husband while your child is on the other room”. At a certain point pain loses all its ability to be motivating or instructional, and just becomes pain. Emotional or physical, it makes no difference, the discomfort is a natural response for your body telling you to stop. For women, epidurals answer the simple question “why not do the thing that makes you happy?”. The pain that comes with childbirth is easily avoidable and no way necessarily to most women. When it comes to epidurals, the options are simple; Either you go against society telling you endure the pain and choose what’s right for you, or you suffer the pain and hope that somehow you learned your lesson. When pregnant, many expecting mothers are faced with a very tough decision, the decision to have an epidural during labor or to have a natural birth. Both methods have negative and positive aspects. This topic has such conflicting views that about 50% of women decide to get an epidural when going into labor and the other 50% of women choose the alternative: natural childbirth. It is important for an expecting mother to look into both options thoroughly to ensure they make the best choice for both themselves and for their child. With all of the speculations circulating about both options, it is hard for mothers to see the truth about both epidurals and natural childbirth.

In the United States more than 80% of pregnant women are now having c-sections. Epidurals give the mothers a chance to participate in the delivery and actually enjoy it. You can also get a walking epidural so that you can still push during the labor and cope with the pain.
In America we have so many standards in order for people to be considered successful or even to be accepted into our social norm. We scrutinize those who do not fit into our society’s standards. Americans expect people to act a certain way and in order for them to fit in and be accepted they must have the right stuff. In Tom Wolfes’s book The Right Stuff he talks all about how in the military someone either has the right stuff to become successful or they don’t have it and they just are mediocre. This represents America because we look at people who have a good job, a house, a family, and money as having the right stuff. They are successful because they have this right stuff, and we see people who work minimum wage jobs, are single parents, who don’t own a house, and cant by all the nice things as people who don’t have it and are just
When Americans are faced with the difficulty of making imperative decisions that can affect their country and the lives of others, they become dependent upon fortitude to help them accomplish their hopes and dreams for the future. Fortitude is something that is difficult to appreciate, even though many different societies and people throughout American history have shown fortitude in difficult situations by persevering and overcoming obstacles to achieve their goal. Fortitude is having the courage to face challenges and obstacles and persevering when things get tough; something that Americans have exemplified throughout their entire history. Even though the effort is put forward to try and appreciate fortitude, on occasion there are some who do not wish to see others overcome their obstacles, accomplish their dreams, or reach their goals in life. Unfortunately, situations such as greed, hate, and rebelliousness occur and every so often these factors allow those who don’t appreciate fortitude to be successful in destroying the hopes and dreams of others.
One would expect that social equality would just be the norm in society today. Unfortunately, that is not the case. Three similar stories of how inequality and the hard reality of how America’s society and workforce is ran shows a bigger picture of the problems American’s have trying to make an honest living in today’s world. When someone thinks about the American dream, is this the way they pictured it? Is this what was envisioned for American’s when thinking about what the future held? The three authors in these articles don’t believe so, and they are pretty sure American’s didn’t either. Bob Herbert in his article “Hiding from Reality” probably makes the most honest and correct statement, “We’re in denial about the extent of the rot in the system, and the effort that would be required to turn things around” (564).

These factors are important because they shape how the company operates and you must know each piece to be able to compete within the retail and eCommerce industry. Specifically, the American society has faltered as a continual elevation in isolationistic behavior has emerged. As the neoliberal market pushes for economic growth, an artificial consumer culture has been created by technological and economic forces. In turn, Americans lose sight of the things that matter most on their tribulation towards reaching the American dream. In other words, Americans lose the sense of identity because of the compulsive drive to achieve superiority is a viscously competitive market.

The company has its base in the United States of America as a multinational e-commerce company. Its headquarters are in Seattle, Washington. It has been rated as the largest online retailing company, in the entire world. It has close to three times the sales revenue that staples, Inc made as a runner up, in January 2010 (Shire, 2008).
Organizational culture is a reflective view of the inner workings of an organization. This culture reflects hierarchical arrangements as it pertains to the lines of authority, rights and obligations, duties, and communication processes. Organizational structure establishes the manner in which power and roles are coordinated and controlled amongst the varying levels of management. The structure of an organization is dependent upon their goals, objectives, and strategy. Determining organizational structure best suited for an organization is generally found within the six key elements of organizational structure and choosing those to implement those best suited for the organization. Just imagine having laughing gas and that is how happy and relaxed I felt. The funny thing about the administration of the epidural was that it didn't hurt when it was administered. The pleasure of not feeling anymore pain was more than I could ever ask for.
