Millions of people venture out of the United States to study abroad each year, but not all have a pleasurable experience. This was just the case for the 22 year old, Amanda Marie Knox… Perugia, Italy, 2007, Amanda Knox found herself in a judicial system knot. Even though computer documentations, fallacious accusations, and the fourth estate cause many to have doubts over the Amanda Knox case, the paucity of evidence, witnesses, and the legal workings within the case prove Ms. Knox did not commit the gruesome slashing of her friend and roommate Meredith Kercher. It was November 1st, 2007, All Saints Day in Italy. Amanda had recently been at her boyfriend, Raffaele Sollecito's, flat but had decided to return to her place of residence at …show more content…
Adding to the list of reasons most signs pointed against Ms.Knox during the trial, was the location of the case, Perugia, Italy. In the American judicial system, an unanimous number of the jury makes the decision in a murder trial, while in Italy it only takes a majority of members within the jury to decide the verdict of the case. In Italy, the judge of the case often knows all of the evidence before the defense and defendant. The judge has likely made up his or her mind on how to processed with the case before the commencement of the trial (Hunziker 1). Furthermore, the person set to be in control of the case, Giuliano Mignini, already had a background in illegal activity in the Italian judicial system. In his career, he was deemeed as an “obsessed weirdo” because of his believes of the monster of Florence cereal killer case to be a mesonic conspiracy, his case eventually came to no conclusion. He was also later convicted and suspend for 16 months for the illegal tapping of high officials phones within the case (Edwards 1). From this information it can deduced that Amanda Knox was never given an equitable trial while being prosecuted in the Italian judicial …show more content…
Knox did not stand a chance in court because of the illegal workings within the case, the false evidence shown to the accusers, and the fourth estate portraying Ms. Knox as an iniquitous human being. Ms. Knox was wrongly convicted of the murder of roommate and companion. The Knox Trail, which finally ended with Ms. Knox being proven innocent, will forever be the case that people will have to agree to disagree over, but with the information included above it can be said, Amanda Knox is
On June 19th of 1990, Robert Baltovich’s girlfriend Elizabeth Bain went missing. Elizabeth told her family that she was going to check the tennis schedules at her school, the University of Toronto Scarborough Campus. She never returned, but her car was eventually recovered. It was found with blood on the backseat, with forensic tests showing that it was Elizabeth’s. With no clear evidence, the “solving” of the case was completely based on eyewitness testimonies, which eventually had Robert arrested for the murder of his girlfriend.
They found Casey Anthony, who was charged with first degree murder of her 3-year-old, not guilty. While she was not guilty of murder, she was convicted on counts four through seven for false information given to the police. The judge sentenced her to one year in county jail for each one of the four counts, but she was released 10 days after she received 1043 days credit. If I was part of the jury I would have said she was guilty of murdering her daughter. Even if she did not kill her, she is still part of the reason why she died. Casey neglected her child either way and did not report the crime to the police until someone else did. I am shocked that the visual evidence did not convince the jury that she was guilty. From the strand of hair in the trunk that matched the past child’s hair, to the extensive research on chloroform found on all web browsers, it was very evident that she did or was at least part of murdering her
When the FBI looked at it they thought that it was just right that she was getting convicted because they thought that she did it, too. They didn’t like Patty Hearst case because her father Randolph Apperson Hearst was a newspaper heir worldwide, so they kidnapped his daughter to get back at him that he was famous. The SLA wanted to be famous, so they kidnapped his daughter to be famous around the world. When they knew nobody would help her, they just convicted her because they thought she was the one that robbed the

... The offenders’ rights to a fair trial were upheld under s 14 of the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights (1980) which can be seen in that she had adequate time to prepare her defence (1 year, 8 months and 27 days) and that she had the right to presumed innocent until proven guilty. The offender also had adequate legal representation and didn’t require any legal aid.
The Casey Anthony trial has been arguably the most controversial case since the trial of O.J. Simpson and has been speculated over ever since the verdict had been given in July of 2011. It was decided by a jury of her peers that Anthony was not guilty of murder, for the death of her daughter Caylee. Many believe that Anthony should have been found guilty however, very little Americans actually comprehend the justice system.
On July 15th, 2008, Caylee Anthony was reported missing by her grandmother Cindy Anthony. Cindy Anthony in the report stated that she hadn’t seen her grand-daughter Caylee for a month and that she and her husband were suspicious because their daughter Casey’s car reeked of decay, as if a dead body had been stored inside the vehicle for days. Caylee and her mother resided with Casey Anthony’s parents. However, Cindy Anthony claimed that Casey had given different explanations about Caylee's whereabouts before telling Cindy that she hadn’t seen her own daughter for several weeks. When questioned by authorities, Casey told the detectives several lies: stating the child had been kidnapped by her nanny on June 9, and that Casey had been trying to contact the nanny to find her daughter. Preceding this information, Casey Anthony was convicted and charged with first degree murder in 2008, but pleaded not guilty ...
It has been one hundred and twenty-two years since "Lizzie Borden took an axe..", in accordance to the folk rhyme, and Andrew and Abby Borden were brutally murdered in their home; but still today it remains one of America's most famous, or infamous, unsolved crimes. Although Lizzie was acquitted and no one was ever proved guilty of committing the crime; it is still the popular opinion that Lizzie was, in fact, the murderer. Not many people have in doubts in their mind about Lizzie's guilt, although there is no one alive today who could witness to what happened. The eventful day in August was followed by a very short trial. There are many reasons she could have been proven guilty but also an abundance of rationalities for her acquittal; and it makes sense that it is discussed and talked about in the year 2014.
When viewed from a strictly medical, psychological aspect, Andrea Yates medical history indicates that after the birth of her first child, she began to suffer from various forms of depression and suicide attempts. If one only examines the paper trail and doesn’t think beyond what the medical history does or does not indicate, then perhaps, Andrea would be innocent by reason of mental insanity as the 2006 acquittal suggest. However, when viewed form a legal aspect there are several inconstancies that challenge if this former nurse was insane or if she in fact premeditated the murder of her children as well as her acquittal.
For instance, the defense has denied to present you with the crucial evidence that would prove her innocence: an alibi. Justine was totally unaccounted for on the night of William’s murder, giving her ample time to commit the atrocity of causing his death. The defense has never presented you with anything that could account for her presence at some other location than the crime scene.

This case was publicized way too much on national television. Just like the rape case for the Kobe Bryant trial, there was way too much media involvement, resulting in the leak of the victim’s name which started the case to downhill from there. If the media was not heavily involved which led to the victim being pressured by scrutiny and threats, Kobe Bryant probably would have been convicted of rape with the victim being a witness on the stand with her testimony.
The evidence offered during the trials should fully reflect the circumstances in which they were confessed. The aim of any interrogation is to ensure that a fair environment for the acquisition of the evidence is provided so that the defendants are aware of the possible consequences of the confessions they make before the investigating personnel. The case has offered insights into the legal practices and the criminal justice system with the stakeholders agreeing that there should be no deliberate creation of the environments that allow blatant errors which lead convictions (Kamisar, 2012). A system that withholds information on warnings to the defendants is defective and hence should be entertained in the modern legal
