The following day, I overheard Maggie discussing an estate sale in George’s neighborhood, so I tagged along. I intended to make Alyx aware of my presence when we arrived at the estate sale, but once there, I changed my mind and slipped out of the car unnoticed when Maggie opened her door. Alyx was on to what she called my tricks, and I quickly slid under the truck waiting for them to go in before I went my separate way. A few feet away, Alyx stopped and turned full circle, but didn’t see me. I waited for them to go inside. I didn’t know exactly where George lived, I figured I’d find it somehow, and I did – Zipper, the cat who Pooky said would be perfect for the surveillance job, sat in plain view in the front yard. I first met Zipper when …show more content…
I was helping Alyx on another murder case. There was no question as to how he earned his name when I saw him in action – the cat traveled at the speed of light. Well, actually, experts say a cat’s top speed is around thirty miles per hour. We greeted one another and he communicated what he’d learned so far – nothing. On a positive note, he had access to the house via the garage. Apparently, George was leaving the garage door open about six inches when a few days earlier, he saw Zipper seeking shelter from the rain under some bushes up against the house. On the other hand, the closed door from the garage to the interior of the house, posed a challenge. Although George had left the door unlocked, the round knob proved difficult to manipulate, but with two determined felines working on it, the door eventually opened. We searched the entire house and didn’t find a box of pictures or anything else that incriminated George. Alyx had warned me and I was somewhat concerned she might leave without me. I hurried out, but just as I was about to slide under the garage door, I looked up and saw a shoebox on the shelf above the workbench. Zipper helped me knock it down, and we pawed through the glossy photos looking for a newspaper article with a group picture. Zipper found it, and I studied the picture. George stood on Mona’s right, John Jones on her left and I didn’t know the others. As far as I was concerned, the photo wasn’t that damaging – all it proved was that he knew her – and more important, Jones knew her, taking the spotlight off George, so I found a place to keep it safe – or to be precise, a place to hide it. Was I tampering with evidence? I wasn’t worried; it wasn’t evidence yet, and besides who ever heard of a cat prosecuted for doing such a thing or anyone believing it possible. I thanked Zipper for his help, told him to keep up the surveillance. It occurred to me on the way back to the truck that maybe a better idea was for Alyx or Maggie to see the clipping – it would certainly save time. I ran at my top speed to the estate sale site and skidded to a halt when I saw Alyx coming out of the house. Since the neighborhood was unfamiliar to me, and I needed a ride back home, I stayed in full view. As they approached, Maggie took her sunglasses off and squinted at me. “Is that Murfy or another cat that looks like him?” “It’s Murfy all right,” answered Alyx without emotion. “He’s getting sneakier by the day, and one of these days he’s going to be left behind if he doesn’t stop it,” said Alyx raising her voice for my benefit, I’m sure. “You heard her, Murfy, you’d better jump in,” Maggie said as she opened the door. I slipped in behind the passenger seat, caught the smile on Alyx’s face, and jumped to the front seat where she hooked me up to the emergency clip-on tether car seat harness.
Surprised by my presence more than once and maybe resigned to the fact it was not going to be easy preventing me from going with her, Alyx also kept one in the car, but not the same kind of pet car harness. I was with her when she went shopping for a car harness. The pet store clerk told her only one out of eleven harnesses for dogs passed all the safety tests conducted by a consumer magazine, a cat however could easily slip out of it. He said the pet tube worked best for cats and that was the one in the back seat of the …show more content…
car. “George lives on this street,” Maggie said as we slowly drove down the street, “I wonder if he’s home.” Alyx tapped her breaks, “Do you want to stop for a few minutes?” “I want to ask him about the photo again … I want to know who that woman was, but I think I should let it go for a while …wait for him to tell me at his own pace …” “Why don’t you call him and see if he’s home?” “I called him just before we left the estate sale. If he is, he’s not answering his phone.” By then, we were in George’s driveway and Alyx asked Maggie what she wanted to do. “I have a key and he told me I could use it anytime – but I don’t feel comfortable entering without his permission or knowledge.
It would be wrong.” Alyx was in the process of backing-up when George turned in his driveway, slid out of from behind the wheel of his truck and came up to Maggie’s window. “What are you ladies doing here?” he asked pleasantly. Alyx said, hello and Maggie told him about the estate sale down the street. When he stepped back and saw the empty truck bed, he asked, “All that stuff and you didn’t find anything you liked?” “They want too much and it’s too early in the day to bargain.” Alyx said. George looked at his watch. “Well, it’s the right time for coffee; come in and I’ll make some.” Zipper hadn’t left, trotted up to George, and all heads turned to him. “He appeared out of nowhere and doesn’t want to leave.” “He seems to like you, are you going to keep him?” Alyx asked. He looked at me and smiled. “I’m considering it.” Zipper rubbed against his leg and purred; I’m not sure if out of pleasure or distress. The idea of not being able to roam at will – a frightening thought to a free spirit like him. George clicked his garage door remote and Zipper zipped away in a
blur. Knocking the shoebox off the shelf had been easy – putting it back on the shelf had proved impossible. I figured there was going to be trouble when George saw it, and if I’d known how much… I might have taken a different course of action.

He tells Candy to wait until he has left the barn to yell as though he had just found the body. He immediately heads for the bunker and tells Candy to “give me a couple of minutes” (95). This allows him to have enough time to get the gun be in his possession and be back in time to follow the men into the barn. He knows he must head straight for Lennie after everyone has seen Curly’s wife’s body, they came from the north so George hopes Lennie has remembered to hide in the brush. In a world dominated by religion it was thought that the only place where perfection existed was within God. In some cases, for instance the ontological argument, it was the proof to his existence. But in a modern world the concept of perfection has been distorted and comes with an abundance of seemingly negative consequences, ultimately putting into question whether or not perfection is even possible. In Margaret Atwood’s Oryx and Crake the concept of perfection is constantly challenged in a world run by corporations who are trying to package human perfection and profit from it. The desire and attempt towards attaining perfection brings moral instability and corruption. Even though perfection seems as if it is the ultimate and most excellent way to live, it is always accompanied with negative results making true perfection unattainable. As previously mentioned, the society that is most present in the novel is run by large corporations that attempt to provide a perfect life for the people within the Compounds. The corporations are riddled with immoral actions that are projected onto the lives of the people they are trying to provide for. Jimmy, on the other hand, lacks this desire for perfection and is pleased with his mediocrity; this level of being content with himself allows him to feel and exercise more valuable traits like empathy. Finally, through the novel Crake is slowly trying to grasp at, or create perfection and he is slowly losing his moral grounding. What seems to be a positive goal for man to have is actually the opposite, causing men to lose what makes them most different from animals, leaving them cruel and ruthless.
my name if farah ahmedi. and i have something to say. first, i am grateful for Alyce Litz, my mother, and so many others. i am also grateful to have this time. Although i do not have very much, i am going to share this time. It will remain with us. unless we do something now. What would say to a young girl, of 4 or 5; who is in her school uniform. braids in hair. with a wholehearted desire. a desire for knowledge. but you have to say no. because she is what she is.
C. During the house fire, Maggie received major burns all over her body. These burns caused Maggie to feel “ugly”. In effect, Maggie is shy and tends to hide herself in embarrassment of the scars she possesses. Her mother even compares her walk to that of a “lame animal”. In the end of the story, while Dee is trying to take the quilts her mother had promised her, she did nothing. She sat and listened and even offered to let Dee take them. She values the quilts greatly, but felt inferior to Dee because of her low self-esteem and felt unworthy of the quilts.
Marie’s grandparent’s had an old farm house, which was one of many homes in which she lived, that she remembers most. The house was huge, she learned to walk, climb stairs, and find hiding places in it. The house had a wide wrap around porch with several wide sets of stairs both in front and in back. She remembers sitting on the steps and playing with one of the cats, with which there was a lot of cats living on the farm...
The next morning, Maggie filed a police report about seeing the young boy in their house the previous night prior to her husband’s death. The police went to the Wilson’s house to investigate, but the boy was gone and there was no sign of any unusual activity. The three of them went back to their home where they mourned the loss of their dad and husband. The next night went smooth, they all stayed in the guest bedroom, avoiding the room where they had seen the young boy, and the room where Joe died. Two days later, at Joe’s funeral, Reagan spotted a young boy that looked like the boy she saw floating into her room that dreadful night. Reagan rushed over to her mom and Chandler to tell them what she saw. The night of the funeral, thunderstorms moved in and a big gust of wind blew a tree limb down onto the power lines adjacent to their house. This caused a power outage in the middle of the night followed by a loud lightning strike, which woke Maggie up. Suddenly an image appeared to be floating toward her. The shadow immediately made her think of the young boy they saw the other day. Before Maggie could call the police, the young boy strangled her to death. Her screams woke Reagan and Chandler up. They hid under the covers crying and hoping the young demon boy would go away. However,

Again, Kristy didn't hear the slightest bit of movement so she went upstairs to look. When she got upstairs she turned to the right, walked a couple of steps, and stood in front of the already open door to Temprence's room. As her mom, Kristy thought that this was very odd because she rarely left her door open, especially when she has people over and they're in her room. Kristy approached the room, gently and subtly she opened the door to Temprence's room. She was shocked at was she saw, or more like didn't see in the room. Kristy then, walked into the room, the girls weren't there so she started searching for a note saying that they might have just gone somewhere really quickly. Instead of finding a note she found that the window was open and the safety screen had been removed. She took a couple steps so she was in front of the window and looked outside, all she saw was the screen outside directly in front of the window on the

As my Aunt and I entered Judy's house which was a fifteen minute drive from where I live, I noticed cut black and white cat long haired cat with a pink nose and mysterious slanted eyes sneaking up on me near the corner of the hallway of the house. Judy shared with me that Katie was spayed, what foods to feed the cat and that she was tramatized. Judy had shared with me that she took Katie to the Shelter to try to find the owners but to no aval. You see, Katie had showed up at Judy's arcadia door so Judy took her in and kept her for several months before deciding to give the cat away.
