Alyssa Bustamante: Plead Guilty to the Murder of 9-year-old Elizabeth Olten SUNNY MODE EGCC Bad Alyssa or Just a little normal insane girl, for fun I like to cut and kill people, this is how Alyssa Bustamante describes herself on social media in 2009. Alyssa’s life started out as one of sadness, Alyssa, her younger sister and her twin brothers were awarded to their grandmother due to their mother’s battle with drugs and alcohol. Their father was in prison for three felonious assault charges on their mother and multiple counts of illegal drug violations. It appeared for several years the family was going to heal from the traumatic changes that they had suffered with the love and guidance from their grandmother. Until Alyssa started …show more content…
developing signs of depression around the age of 13 and attempted suicide by taking an overdose of medication. Alyssa would later be diagnosed with and antisocial disorder and it would be recommended that she receive an involuntarily commitment order and be evaluated by a long term medical health facility. Unfortunately, that didn’t happen soon enough. Alyssa was described as a bright, friendly, outgoing teenager, one you would trust to babysit for you. However, outward appearances are deceiving. Alyssa had fallen into a dark place with her depression, she had begun to cut herself. She cut the word hate into her arm and had over 300 slashes on her body, mostly to her arms, wrest and thighs. Alyssa also had numerous self-inflicted cigarette burns. She continued down the dark path attempting to influence and I believe recruit her friends into her sadistic behavior. Sometime around October 15th, 2009 Alyssa digs two graves sites in the wooded area behind her grandmother’s house. On October 21st, 2009 she entices her younger sister’s friend, nine-year-old Elizabeth Olten, into the wooded area with the promise of a “surprise’ this is when Alyssa strangles, slashes the child’s throat and stabs the little girl numerous times. Alyssa buries the girl in one of the graves that she had dug five days prior, and without remorse returns home to shower, place the knife she used inside the dishwasher and records in her diary what she did. Alyssa writes "I strangled them and slit their throat and stabbed them now they're dead. I don't know how to feel atm. It was ahmazing. As soon as you get over the 'ohmygawd I can't do this' feeling, it's pretty enjoyable. I'm kinda nervous and shaky though right now. Kay, I gotta go to church now...lol." Alyssa plead guilty to 2nd degree homicide in 2012 at age 17 she was sentenced to life imprisonment, with the possibility of parole, as a juvenile cannot be sentenced to life without parole. I can only contribute the Propensity Theory to explain her behavior.
There are children born every day to ill equipped, drug addicted parents. There are hundreds of kids being raised by their grandparents in every town in the nation due to the parent’s neglectful behavior and none involvement that do not commit criminal acts and grow up to be successful members of society. I think that maybe David Rowe, D. Wayne Osgood, and W. Alan Nicewander might be right. Their theory states some people in the population have a characteristic that controls their inclination or propensity to commit crimes. This disposition could be either present at birth or established early in life. Traits include diminished intelligence, impulsive personality, genetic abnormalities, and effects on the brain from drugs or …show more content…
injuries. Everyone wants to know how could they have prevented this from happening, truth is Alyssa would have killed someone regardless of whether there was further intervention or not.. She is just plan and simple evil. Alyssa dug two graves, one she filled with the body of Elisabeth but who was the other grave for? She planned to do this again and again. Alyssa made a statement to the Deputy from the Sheriff’s Office when asked why this hole was dug and she claimed she liked to bury animals that she found. I don’t hesitate to think that Alyssa had killed before Elizabeth’s murder. I’m convinced by her statement that she practiced with animals prior to Elizabeth’s. I still hold to the belief if Alyssa had not been caught that she would have continued to murder. References unknown.

Times got harder and more rough over time. Josh begin to worry about Joey, thinking he was going to get sick. Surprisingly Joey’ health was better than Josh’s health. Growing up Mary Karr didn't have a “stable” childhood. Her parents Pete and Charlie had many obstacles they faced throughout their life. Pete, who worked at a graveyard at the oil refinery was an alcoholic. He would drink every day, whether it was at home or with the liars club, he always had a drink in his hand. Charlie, who dealt with many illnesses such as an anxiety disorder and being a hypochondriac was not the best role model in Mary and Lecia life. At only 2 years old, Charlie almost died of pneumonia. After surviving that, she wasn't a normal kid, she had many issues.
A horrific murder happened in tiny Skidmore on December of 2004. Lisa Montgomery and Bobbi Jo Stinnett met and found out that they had much in common and became good friends (Nunes 85-86). Surprisingly, Bobbi and Lisa met in an internet chat room. Bobbi was into puppy breeding and she occasionally served as a judge. Lisa lived in Kansas where her close friends were shocked about what she was talking about. Of course, Lisa shrugged it off and she sent an email to Bobbi saying that she wanted to see the puppies (Nunes 85-86). When Lisa met Bobbi Jo she had a fake name which was Darlene Fisher because she didn’t want Bobbi to know her real identity. When Lisa sent Bobbi the email she had a criminal intent on her mind. She was planning to choke Bobbi into unconsciousness and then cut open her womb and steal Bobbi’s unborn baby. When Lisa arrived at the house she threw a rope around Bobbi’s neck and choked her until she was unconscious. That is when Lisa took a knife and started to cut open Bobbi’s stomach. Lisa had to cut through skin, fat, and muscle to get to Bobbi’s uterus. Bobbi’s baby was in eight-month gestation; Lisa cut and tied the baby’s cord. Lisa stole the baby and fled to her house in Kansas. Unfort...

brutally murdered outside The Daily Planet, a restaurant patronized by the local young people who are involved. The girl was visiting home for the summer. after being in the Los Angeles area attending school. Her and a friend were getting into their car when two guys on a motorcycle rode up next to Kimber Reynolds blocking her in, taking her purse, and beating her. her into a submission.
The main reason why they were removed from the family is because; her mother were doing drugs. Such as, she would be cooking dope in the kitchen without paying any or no attention to Ashley. The mother had a boyfriend, named Dusty that would fight with the mother as well. I recall, he hit her and that’s why Tommy was born premature. One night Ashley was outside by herself since there was no one that was watching her, so the neighbors watched her till the mother came home. One time Dusty drove around in a car that didn’t have any license plates and he didn’t have a valid driver’s license.
One might believe that if an individual is more educated and hold an adequate job, this person would have a lot to lose if involved with crime. This makes education and employment a type of deterrent to crime. The community is the „other parent‟ for children. They are going to follow what the community around them does. If there is violence, drugs, and weapons frequenting the streets, they are more likely to participate in it. Alcohol and drugs is a complex issue relating to crime. Looking at newspapers, most of the crimes committed involved were from people under the influence of alcohol or
In her memoir, Who Killed My Daughter (1992), author Lois Duncan, asserts that her daughter, Kaitlyn Arquette’s murder was not part of a random shooting, but was murdered by her boyfriend’s Vietnamese gang, in which he was involved in, by suggesting that there was an unknown motive that led to the murder of her youngest daughter.
Moreover, females acting alone manage an estimated eight year killing time, double that of their male counterpart (as cited in Farrell et al, 2011, p. 232). For children, people are often hesitant to blame women for their deaths. Nobody wants to accept that a mother could kill their own child, or anyone else’s child. Even if they aren’t a mother, women are seen as compassionate and caring, the nurturing gender, so they are less likely to be the center of investigation in a child’s death.

Lanthrop’s argument that substance abuse is caused by both your environment and genetics is very intriguing. Not only does Lanthrop use strong medical and statistical evidence in his statement, he uses personal experience. By using his personal experience in his argument, Lanthrop establishes credibility or ethos with his readers as well as emotional appeal or pathos. By establishing credibility and appealing to the emotional side of readers Lanthrop effectively argues that substance abuse is impacted by a person’s environment and their genetic code. However, out of the two main causes of substance abuse, genetics has the greatest impact on one’s substance abuse issue.
... did not have a history of troubled behavior or personal connection to the victim, were capable of being involved in such a random, yet passionate act of violence. Virk was a ‘punching bag’ for the internal anxiety or frustration these girls faced, which essentially leads back to parent’s inability to detect these issues and societies failure to provide support for these girls. The autopsy reports showed that Virk would have most likely died solely from her head injuries from the severe beating she took, essentially making every person present that night underneath the bridge responsible for Virk’s death. Although female violence has been on the rise, the media did play an essential role in creating fear of female violence in Canada. While the story of the murder of Reena Virk is both ruthless and alarming, not many similar cases have occurred in the past 17 years.
Within the past decade there has been a wide range of research and evidence available based on both sides of the nature or nurture debate. Along with further research that identifies a number of determinants that have some form of influence towards criminal behavior and activity. This researc...

In furthering a genetically predisposed and socially-influenced explanation, there is an abundance of considerations when explicating criminal behaviour; for example, a non aggressive, psychologically sound individual may be influenced by peer pressure into recreational drug usage, as “Psychoactive drug abuse commonly results from a combination of low self-esteem, peer pressure, inadequate coping skills, and curiosity.” (Lippincott Williams & Wilkins, 2005) therefore suggesting that light recreational drug abuse can accrue to a dependence due to a multitude of social influences, which invariably leads to further crime in order to financially support an addiction.
