I am beyond proud to say that I am a member of the Alpha Sigma Tau sorority. This organization is already shaping me into a better individual. This is one of the many advantages from being apart of the greek community. Never a Dull Moment With 100 plus sisters you can imagine that more times than not, we are laughing when we are together. there is never a time that I find myself bored on the weekends. I can always find something to do with my sisters. Whether we plan a fun night out on the town, a low-key movie night, or a study session I'm always in good company. Gain Leadership Experience There are many roles one can take in a sorority.
In my sorority for example, there are a lot of positions that can be held. I currently hold two positions. I have learned that with these positions comes a lot of responsibilities. As a position holder, you are expected to be a leader in whatever "department" your position belongs to. From the minute I took my position, I held the power to make decisions for the organization. Those who hold positions in sororities or fraternities earn a great deal of leadership experience. Leadership experience that can be used throughout one's life. Held to a Higher
Standard I have seen first hand that individuals in greek life are held to a higher standard. We are expected to uphold our organization's individualized values that make us who we are. Everywhere you go, everything you do is a representation of your organization. Members of greek life must live to uphold a good reputation for their organization. Those who hinder the reputation of their organization will most likely be removed. thus, giving members an incentive to act appropriately. Networking Being apart of the greek community gives so many opportunities for networking. Anyone who belongs to these organizations not only increases their network from within their own organization, but also from members of other organizations. If anyone needs a job there is always someone in the greek community that knows of something available, which is just one example of the benefits of having a network. Being in a sorority has helped me in so many ways, I have benefited greatly from this organization. I have gained academic, leadership, and networking advantages through this experience. Above all, I have made lifelong friendships.
At a young age I knew as an African American woman through activism, educational autonomy, and community service, I can thrive through the wake of extreme poverty and turmoil faced by the people of my neighborhood of East New York. My interest in Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority Inc., would be based solely on their ethical standards, history, and values they are founded upon. The ladies of this organization exude exemplary character who excel in sisterhood, respect, honesty, accountability, and integrity. Throughout my life I always encouraged myself to have these ideal characteristics without knowing that one day I would be pursuing membership in a prestigious organization, whom upheld the key principles “greater service, greater progress. The first
Women of Delta, especially the ladies of the Alpha Tau Chapter, excel excessively in everything they accomplish and partake in from what I have seen on Southern Universities campus and in the community. Day in and day out we hear about high school and college students wanting to pursue a sorority and/or a fraternity based on the stereotypes these organizations uphold, well I chose to differ. I told myself if I ever decided to become a member of a sorority it would be based solely on their ethical standards, history, and values they are founded upon. Alpha Kappa Alpha, Incorporated consists of ladies of distinction and exemplary character who excel in scholarship, leadership, and service, which are qualities I have chosen to uphold. From my perspective, I encourage myself to maintain a respectable appearance and reputation which doing so inspires me to embrace my self-concept; which helps me confidently excel academically and professionally as a “lady of distinction” and “exemplary character.” Most importantly, I continuously remain involved in community service, being involved allows me the opportunity to learn and understand the lives and circumstances of others by opening my mind, heart, and soul. Overall these qualities strengthen my passion to be a member of the prestigious Alp...
Walking into college, I always wanted to join a brotherhood. But, it was hard to find the one for me at first. After striking out on a few other fraternities at SEMO, I didn’t know if Greek Life was for me. But after talking one night with Brian Smith, I would give my one last shot to Sigma Nu. Looking back, I couldn’t have been happier with my decision. Over the past few months I have grown into a better person and have achieved goals I wouldn’t have even thought about being able to achieve. Looking back throughout my candidate process I can say I have strived for Love, Truth, and Honor.
I have gained access to this community through pledgeship in Sigma Chi, one the most prestigious fraternities in the nation, with the hopes of becoming a brother. Even though I have access to this community I know very little because I am so new. Through my research, I have learned and discovered the intricacies and deeper understandings of not just Sigma

“Sisterhood is the essence of all the wisdom of ages, distilled into a single word. You cannot see sisterhood, neither can you hear it nor taste it. But you can feel it a hundred times a day. It is a pat on the back, a smile of encouragement. It’s someone to share with, to celebrate your achievements” – Anonymous (Sorority Quotes). Joining a sorority is a life-changing experience during college. When going to college, there are many clubs and organizations that a student can join. Despite popular belief, a sorority is much more than paying for friends and partying. A sorority is a good way to make friends, give back to others, and join something that is bigger than you. Sororities have a rich history
My affiliation with fraternity has taught me to love and respect our shared community. I also learned that my good actions matter to the lives and well being of the citizens of our community. I know my time and studies at Rutgers University will only grow my understanding of belonging to something greater then myself. I can say as a Man that gathered this when I read the Rutgers mission statement. Rutgers University is here to enrich those who attend and the community at large.
Therefore, I cannot accurately describe the experience as part of a fraternity, but I have read actual testaments of fraternities, and I have heard about life in a fraternity at Sacramento State. From what I have learned, fraternities are a group of students, who pay money, to be part of group to socialize. I have read that many fraternities are dependent on the type of fraternity and school you go to, many fraternities do have parties, not like Alpha House, where members talk with other members and women. There may be drinking, but not all-out arrogance. One benefit I have heard that fraternities do have is the ability to learn to socialize and meet new people. Fraternities are honestly a bond of friends who end up more like
The term ‘sorority woman’ always comes with negative stigmas that all sororities do is drink or that sororities are just paying for their friends, but being a part of Alpha Sigma Tau has changed my life. As a freshman, I was self-conscious and unsure of myself, so when I went out for recruitment on a whim, the whole time I thought for sure that no sorority would want me. But, when I got my bid to Alpha Sigma Tau, I knew I found my home and my sisters. However, I did not know how much this organization would shape every aspect of my life. I have gained bonds with my sisters that will last forever and the support this sorority has for me, and each other, helps build my confidence every day. As I am finishing out my senior year- three and a half
