Ally McBeal is the TV series that gave the very first boost to Lucy Liu’s stardom and presence in the Hollywood cinema. The series is an American legal comedy-drama television series that follows the life of the main protagonist Allison Marie “Ally” McBeal. The series is set in a fictional Boston law firm, called Cage and Fish, and begins with Ally joining the firms after leaving her previous job due to sexual harassment ("Ally McBeal Plot Summary"). She coincidentally works alongside her ex-boyfriend Billy Thomas, who she followed to Harvard law school despite having no interest in law, and still hasn’t gotten over, despite him choosing to pursue a career away from her. Ling Woo has been described as cold, ferocious, and knowledgeable in an art of sexual pleasure unknown to the Western world (Patton, Tracey Owens; Shimizu, Celine Parreñas). Woo first appears on the series in the second season as a client suing a talk show host named Wick, who she accused of contributing to sexual harassment in her workplace (Sun, Chyn Feng). The character proved to be a hit, and Lucy Liu was signed on as a regular for the series (Kloer, Phil). In the series, Ling Woo enters the firm by pressuring Richard Fish, the firm’s senior partner, by seducing him. Fish explains Woo’s job as “supervising the infrastructure handling her corporate ventures which will bring a great deal of money into the firm” (TV ACRES). Her opinion on her new work environment is that “in an office place, people shouldn’t be happy.” Nonetheless, a fan of litigation, Woo sues people for any possible issue throughout the series. After high school,she attened Hamline University in St. Paul,Minnesoda. She graduated with a Bachlor`s degree in English. She was the first african american to recieve this degree at this university. While she was in college,she heard Dr.W.E.B DuBois give a speech that made her want to become a teacher. After she graduated from college,she accepted a teaching job at Rust College in Holly Springs,Mississipi and taught english and history for two years. While in Missippi,she experienced racial segregation and discrimination for the first time,witch motivated her to join the civil rights movement.
Alice Cogswell was an incredible little girl from the 1800s who helped to change the course of history for deaf people everywhere. Alice was one of the first and most prominent figures in the creation of ASL as well as an education system for American deaf people. She became this brave pioneer at only 9 years old.
To conclude, with the Lees being Hmong and not wanting to conform to society and abide by the way things works, I feel Lia’s fate was inevitable. The doctors did as much as they could, but in the end, it still wasn’t enough to prevent Lia from going brain dead. Language and communication may have been the one thing that caused Lia to suffer because the doctors couldn’t understand the Hmong and the Hmong couldn’t or refused to understand the doctors.

From being a competitor on Dancing with the Stars, to an actress on Switched at Birth, Marlee Matlin is known for her overflowing amount of talents. She seems to do it, and quite effortlessly while she’s at it. But, the one thing she cannot do, is hear. Fang Qin-lan was the beautiful Chinese-female communist spy/ factory worker for the Far East Cotton Mills company. Qian Shi-shan is an opium addicted Chinese pro-capitalism/Nationalist who believes that China must support Chinese capitalism to become world power and no longer be exploited by European imperialist powers. These characters best represented the opposing sides in Shanghai during the timeline of the novel. Their struggles gave a look into the personal experiences of the day to day workings of the every aspect of life for the residents of Shanghai.
Is Chris McCandless admirable or a fool? Chris McCandless was an admirable person because he had motivation and ambition to follow his dreams. He wanted to prove his family wrong and show them that he could do it on his own. Wang Lung is very proud when O-lan makes cakes that no one else in the village knows how to makes and when his family comes to feast for the new year at their house.
