Ally Condie’s book Reached is a dystopian book taking place in the Desert and in Big cities of the past such as: the big apple and Chicago. This novel is about how Cassia and Ky keep getting separated from each other. It goes on to tell how “The Rising”, a rebellion is almost ready to take over the society as a whole. At this time Cassia is working as a sorter and trading with archivists. Ky is flying planes to big cities to give medicine to the sick. Xander is on the inside working on healing people who are infected with the disease.
The antagonist of the story is not so much a person as a group, called the society. The protagonists are Cassia, Xander, and Ky. Cassia is a young girl who is stuck in a love triangle, but, ultimately chooses

Ky. Xander was Cassia's “match” but she fell in love with another boy. He is a Physicist and joined the rebellion early on. Ky is a boy who spent most of his life outside of the society and was adopted in by his uncle and aunt. He is a creator and would do anything to be with Cassia. One of the supporting characters is Indie a girl who tried to run away by boating away.
She helps Cassia survive the hard conditions of the Canyons and helps Ky keep his head straight when he is separated from Cassia. Another character that moves the story along is “The Pilot”, he is the leader of the rebellion and helps give the teenagers the tools they need to save the human race as a whole.
The climax of the novel is when Ky comes down with the deadly illness that could take his life. There seems to be no cure to save him and it is up to the few people in a small village to find the cure before he dies. After they think they find the right cure it turns out that they don’t. Due to careful sorting done by Cassia they are able to find the flower that they need to save Ky. Just when they think it is going to be all right a trusted member of the farmers slashes all the IV bags almost killing the sick people. They get there just in time to save Ky and the others.
I liked the book because they had a very strong plot and the characters seemed to fit together very nicely. The plot did not have very many weaknesses although it does not fully explain why Ky was reluctant to join the rebellion or his backstory which could have been helpful to know. Ally Condie explained the scenery very well, so much so that you could almost see and feel it. She also did a great job switching the narrative from the characters so that you got a sense of all of
them.
The book had a few characters that I liked, but a lot of characters that I disliked. For example Yasmine was a character that I disliked. I didn’t like her because she brought pain to Paige’s life. Yasmine and Paige were best friends for months in Sixth grade. They were constantly doing fun activities together, like having sleepovers or planning each other’s birthday parties, but all that was ruined by a mistake Yasmine made. Paige and Yasmine were at a school dance, when
I found the book to be easy, exciting reading because the story line was very realistic and easily relatable. This book flowed for me to a point when, at times, it was difficult to put down. Several scenes pleasantly caught me off guard and some were extremely hilarious, namely, the visit to Martha Oldcrow. I found myself really fond of the char...
My overall opinion of this book is good I really liked it and recommend it to anyone. It is a good book to read and it keep you interested throughout the whole book.
The main characters were brother and sister, Jamal and Bibi. Bibi was much stronger and more independent than Jamal even though she is the younger sibling. Although Jamal started out more immature he developed his sense of resilience throughout the story. Jamal had to look after Bibi and take on the role
The Resolution of the story A Lesson Before Dying is when Jefferson is executed. Although it could also be considered the climax by many people, and rightly so. When Jefferson is executed all loose ends are tied up.
I think my favorite thing about this novel was the realistic ending. Some books try to just give you a fairy tale but this book had an ending that mad you think in the end if I was in the same position would I do the same thing. I didn’t like the fact that the novel portrayed mental illness in a way to say that it needed to be hidden and protected. I thought this novel was very believable for the time period that it was set in. I think the ending to this novel was perfect it was an accurate ending to this
The book and the movie were both very good. The book took time to explain things like setting, people’s emotions, people’s traits, and important background information. There was no time for these explanations the movie. The book, however, had parts in the beginning where some readers could become flustered.
The main characters in the story are teenage brothers, can be described as brave and heroic. Gavin proves to be Brave when he loses his arm protecting his brother. This incident means that Gavin will have to live his life knowing he is incomplete. The character William is loyal. this is shown throughout the story, but especially when he sacrifices himself by giving Hosanna to
I believe that the climax is on page 91 when Phoenix arrives at the town. "All right. The doctor said as long as you came to get it, you could have it." At this point I felt a huge sigh of relief because the conflict had officially been solved. Phoenix made a journey to get medicine that was necessary for her grandson and she finally got it! It is as though all of her hard work paid off in the end and as the reader I can feel the emotions of the elder woman.
My book had a very good plot to it because it was laid out very nice and it had a lot of details. It was also good because it always kept me on the edge wondering what was going to happen next. Like wether or not Alex can capture Herod Sayle in time. One of the reasons I did not like my book was because it is slow and it took a long time to get to the point of what is going to happen. Overall it was a good book it was very fun to
the beginning of all the bad events that occur in the remaining of the novel.
I gave this book this rating because of reasons like character reactions, character development, if the book could keep me on the edge of my seat, things that I think were unnecessary to mention, plot, and how excited the book made me for the next book.
To me, it was a good book. I enjoyed reading it very much because of it’s sarcastic wit. It’s also quite easy to read, and you never get bored. I read it at one go, it’s not too long and very fluent.
Determine all of the story's conflicts. Determine the major conflict and state this in terms of protagonist versus antagonist.
