The story of how Noah and Allie fall in love has taken place during the 1940’s. Their Summer’s romance began during World War II in June. The few obstacles that Noah and Allie overcome are distance when Noah leaves for the war and when Allie’s mom does not want her to get close with Noah. The Notebook uses a relationship between Allie and Noah to demonstrate that undying love can overcome difficult obstacles.

Noah’s first obstacle is convincing Allie to go out with him at all. Noah first sees Allie at an Amusement park and asks her to dance with him. She says no, but Noah is not willing to give up so easily. To demonstrate his determination to go out with her, he jumps on the ferris wheel as it is moving and attempts to climb up to where

she is. This shows that Noah is willing to risk his life to gain her attention. Allie overcame her obstacle and agreed to go out with Noah. A few days later Noah and Allie meet up at the movies with their friends who set them up. Allie was not interested in him but by the end of the night she realized that she was interested in Noah. Afterwards they walked together and they laid in the street showing each others trust to the other cars and each other. Noah asked Allie again to dance with him and she finally said yes. After that night, the spent every waking hour together going on bike rides, eating ice cream, and simply just falling in love.
The second obstacle Noah comes to is explaining to Allie that he wrote her 365 etter and she never responded to one single letter.

Before Allie had to leave for the summer, they were standing in the house and were talking about what type of house Allie wanted after Noah built them a house to live in together. Now it is few years later with no contact and Noah’s dad hands him a check to rebuild the house he had visited when he was a teenager. This house was meant to be for Noah and Allie, so Noah builds it how Allie wanted it for his undying love for Allie. He spends days and nights building this house and painting it white with blue shutters and a porch that wraps all around the front. By building the house this way it will always remind him of Allie and what they had together. Noah puts the house up for sale and also puts it in the newspaper in hopes that Allie will see what he has done. Her mother told her that her life could have been very different with this other man. After them being rebonded, her mother pulls out 365 letters from Noah after their first year of not being

together.
After many years of happy marriage, another obstacle challenges their undying love: Noah visits Allie everyday in the nursing home to assist with her Alzheimer’s. Alzheimer’s is a disease when someone forgets their life now and their past life. Every single day Noah reads to Allie about their love story in hopes that she will remember him and their past even if it is for a few minutes. His undying love for Allie has caused him to live with her at the nursing home and try to help her get through the disease. The doctors do not think that Noah reading to her can help but it does. Then when Allie forgets again she becomes very confused. During the last chapter, Noah goes to visit Allie even though he is not supposed to. The story of Noah and Allie ends with them both dying together on the nursing bed holding hands.
The story of Noah and Allie end on a sad note but on a comforting note as well. Both Allie and Noah’s undying love for each other has brought them back together for the rest of their lives. Their story shows sacrifice, love, and faith. Sacrifice because Noah showed that he will do anything to get Allie’s attention. Noah risked his life for her before they know each other on the ferris wheel. Love because their undying love for each other shows that they will stay by each other’s side until the end. Then faith because when the newspaper article was in Allie’s hands it brought the couple back together.
