World War II was an event that rocked the world. The Nazi party of Germany shocked the world with it's ideology. Adolf Hitler also stunned with his oratory skills and how quickly he seized power in Europe. William Golding's Lord of the Flies was published in 1950, written in a time when the world was recovering from the second World War. The novel was released at a time where the horrors of Nazi Germany and Hitler were still fresh in the minds of people all over the earth. It is highly speculated that Golding, a member of The Royal Navy during WWI, wrote Lord of the Flies as an allegorical interpretation of what occurred during those times: Hitler, his rise to power, the treatment of the Jewish people, and the state of world post-war. The novel, Lord of the Flies, may be compared in similarity to the historical figures and events surrounding World War II. The lesson that Golding learned because of his experience with the war is prevalent in the story of the novel. There is a clear connection between the characters and plot events Golding creates on the island, and the real characters and events that occurred in the 1930s and 1940s in Europe as well as around the globe. As both stories unfold, the same universal theme is revealed.
In comparing Lord of the Flies and the figures surrounding the second World War, many similar character traits and ways of thinking become clear. Following World War I, Germany was forced to sign The Treaty of Versailles, and one of the things Germany was forced to do was pay reparations to other nations, such as Britain and France, for all the damages that had been caused. Paying those reparations sent Germany into an economic depression. One of the items on Hitler's platform was promising Germans he w...

...thin different circumstances. Whilst the events that occurred in Golding's novel happened on the small scale of an island with no more that thirty boys residing there, the events that occurred in real life effected the global community. The evil residing within Jack changed school boys on an isolated island, but the hateful nature of Adolf Hitler changed the world forever. Regardless of the scale and amount of impact, the effect both Jack and Hitler had is the same, and reveals the same truth about human nature. Hitler convinced millions of people to believe horrid, hateful things that they would not have believed otherwise; Golding showed the world that even innocent school boys, no older than twelve years old, are capable of the same thing. Both showed that no matter how innocent, kind, or good a person may be, there is an inescapable evil that humans all posses.
Title Sir William Golding has constantly been a man who sees nothing good in anything. He examined the world to be a dreadful place due to the people who has populated the Earth. In order to display how he observes the world which was around the period of the second world war, he came to the decision of producing a novel. His novel was titled “Lord of the flies”. In the novel, William Golding familiarized his audience with three groups of boys; the hunters, the younger children and the gentle boys.
William Golding, the author of the novel The Lord of the Flies, lived through the global conflicts of both world wars. World War II shifted his point of view on humanity, making him realize its inclination toward evilness. His response to the ongoing struggle between faith and denial became Lord of the Flies, in which English schoolboys are left to survive on their own on an uninhabited island after a plane crash. Just like Golding, these boys underwent the trauma of war on a psychological level. Ralph, one of the older boys, stands out as the “chief,” leading the other victims of war in a new world. Without the constraints of government and society, the boys created a culture of their own influenced by their previous background of England.
There was a major compares with them which was age. Jack was a little boy and Hitler was a full grown adult, but they both can connect with people with the same goals. Also they would exploit the weakness in the enemies that were faced but they could only do so much damaged. They both like the feeling of power in their hands but Jack will get it himself while Hitler will let others do the work for him and take the easy way out. Both Lord of the Flies and the articles of Hitler show how human nature can show though anyone, no matter how alike or not they are. Savagery is in everyone but it's the person chose to show it or not but, people can change in the environment they were
The book Lord of the Flies was William Golding’s first novel he had published, and also his one that is the most well known. It follows the story of a group of British schoolboys whose plane, supposedly carrying them somewhere safe to live during the vaguely mentioned war going on, crashes on the shore of a deserted island. They try to attempt to cope with their situation and govern themselves while they wait to be rescued, but they instead regress to primal instincts and the manner and mentality of humanity’s earliest societies.
People can do anything that involves fear including turning on someone and attempting to kill them. William Golding wrote Lord of the Flies in 1952 during the cold war. This affects the novel because children were often killed during war. This novel is important because the novel shows how the boys communicate and survive on the island. Lord of the Flies is about a group of boys on an island without any adults. In order to survive, they will have to work as a team. In the essay, I will talk about how Jack and Ralph comparison, how they have changed, and there purpose in the novel.
The 1954 novel Lord of the Flies by William Golding won the 1983 Nobel Prize for Literature and the novels allegorical nature has earned it positions in the “Modern Library 100 Best Novels, reaching number 41 on the editor's list, and 25 on the reader's list” (Lord of the Flies: Background). Golding’s thought provoking novel was written and published as the world was still remembering the horrors of the Second World War and many parts and components of the novel can be related to the Second World War, specifically Adolf Hitler and his Nazi Regime. Many comparisons can be made between Lord of the Flies and the events that occurred in Adolf Hitler’s Nazi Regime. The group of choir boys bossed by Jack Merridew can be compared to the brutal and intimidating Nazi police force the Gestapo. The character Jack Merridew himself can be compared to the father of Nazi Germany Adolf Hitler because both gained support through using fear. Dehumanization is also present in the form of young Piggy and the Jewish People is Lord of the Flies and Hitler's Nazi regime respectively.
The Lord of the Flies by William Golding is tale of a group of young boys who become stranded on a deserted island after their plane crashes. Intertwined in this classic novel are many themes, most that relate to the inherent evil that exists in all human beings and the malicious nature of mankind. In The Lord of the Flies, Golding shows the boys' gradual transformation from being civilized, well-mannered people to savage, ritualistic beasts.
In his novel Lord of the Flies, William Golding describes Jack as someone who promotes unity, someone who is skilled at manipulating people, and someone who idolizes violent actions. Jack has a lot in common with the World War II German dictator, Adolf Hitler, who had also demonstrated desires for unity, the manipulation of others and increased violence. All these similarities between them led to them destroying their society.
Much of history’s most renown literature have real-world connections hidden in them, although they may be taxing uncover. William Golding’s classic, Lord of the Flies, is no exception. In this work of art, Golding uses the three main characters, Piggy, Jack, and Ralph, to symbolize various aspects of human nature through their behaviors, actions, and responses.
My Essay is about Ralph and and his Motivation’s and did he contribute to the tragedy in any way. Also about if he prevented any of the deaths and what would I have done differently in his situation. I defend Ralph’s actions as leader, He had tried his best but everyone fell apart. Did Ralph contribute to the tragedies? Ralph had tried his best but he was struggling at handling the problems on the island, He was unaware of the boy’s and what was going on. He had tried to contribute to all of the tragedies but there was too much going on around him it was just hard. What was wrong with Ralph too was that jack ignores everything and try’s to do his own thing the whole time instead of working together with everyone. All Jack wants is his way or his way to him there is no other way. So yes Ralph had try to contribute to the tragedies but Jack and other boys had just did what they wanted to do instead of doing what they should have done. So Ralph had really struggled dealing with everybody. In my opinion Ralph was doing a good job, Yes he kind of gave up for a little b...
William Golding said “I learned during World War II just how brutal people can be to each other. Not just the Japanese but everyone”. In the book “the Lord of the Flies”, Golding tells us about World War II and the Holocaust by making Ralph represent democracy and Jack represent dictatorship.
The novel “Lord of the Flies” was written by William Golding to demonstrate the problems of society and the sinful nature of man.
People are privileged to live in an advanced stage of development known as civilization. In a civilization, one’s life is bound by rules that are meant to tame its savage natures. A humans possesses better qualities because the laws that we must follow instill order and stability within society. This observation, made by William Golding, dictates itself as one of the most important themes of Lord of the Flies. The novel demonstrates the great need for civilization ion in life because without it, people revert back to animalistic natures.
The Lord of the Flies is an ultimately pessimistic novel. In the midst of the cold war and communism scares, this disquieting aura acts as a backdrop to the island. The Lord of the Flies addresses questions like how do dictators come to power, do democracies always work, and what is the natural state and fate of humanity and society, getting at the heart of human nature in a very male-dominated, conflict-driven way. The war, the plane shot down, and the boys' concern that the "Reds" will find them before the British, shows Golding's intention of treating the boys' isolated existence as a microcosm of the adult military world.
In his novel Lord of the Flies, William Golding shows a story of boys who are trapped on an island, and must figure out how to survive. The story represents the fall of mankind, as symbolism is present throughout the entire novel. It is best seen through a historical perspective. Golding uses events from his own lifetime, the Operation Pied Paper, and Hitler’s ruling to compare it to the major events, the beginning of the story, and Jack’s personality.
