Celebrities are not just normal people they are rich and famous and always in the public eye. People know them but do they know them a little too much is the question. They are bombarded by the paparazzi whenever they take a step. They have a privacy issue at their expense; they can not lead normal lives. Celebrities’ indulge in drugs, have privacy issues, and mess up healthy relationships.
Drugs are a problem sweeping the entertainment industry and causing many deaths. This quote explains how Charlie Sheen was addicted to drugs and how he lost it all.
“Drugs and alcohol at least contribute to the insanity Sheen is exhibiting said Dr. Deborah Serani, a clinical psychologist in New York. But she believes Sheen’s problems are deep-seated. The degree of mania for Sheen is almost caricature, because it’s such an extreme it’s such an extreme case of bipolar disorder,’ she said. The condition is marked by mood swinging between manic and depression. ” (Brown 6)
Being in the public eye drove Charlie Sheen over the edge and cost him to lose it all. He was addicted to drugs, lost his family and job because he could not handle the pressure. This is also seen in Amy Winehouse.
Amy Winehouse was in and out of rehabs dealing with her drug and alcohol addiction.
“A number of Mrs.Winehouse’s handlers reportedly did try to get her long-term professional help. But as a music critic for Irish Times put it this weekend: ‘The music industry is predicated on a ‘sex, drugs and rock ‘n’ roll image and, artistically speaking, the more bruised and battered the star the more authentic and resonant the music is – or so the thinking goes.’ The tabloids obliged, trumpeting every outrageous step the talented musician took. And her fans loved it.” (Wall...

...pped away and replaced with a camera just to entertain people. Society has become a cult-like group worshiping people that they do not even know. They get tattoos, and some even name their kids after celebrities. When do we know that we have taken things too far? We have devoted TV channels and TV shows to use a camera and record our favorite celebrities at their worst moments for our entertainment. They have their family taken away and replaced with agents; the fame comes at price, but is it worth it? In this case, all that glitters is not gold.

Part of that is because some people’s perspectives of celebrities allow them think as if they’re on a pedestal and are more important than the average human. When people vision these celebrities as these quintessential people it enable’s their own thoughts and opinions on the celebrity. It’s like brainwashing, these celebrities only show the media what they want, which allows them to put up a whole façade and mask who they truly are. During the O.J Simpson trial it opened more people’s minds to visualize the concept that celebrities have the ability to be just as deranged as the average person, and that we are all equal, but the only difference that’s separates us is the fact that their job is in the lime
Around 2003, Winehouse began developing a reputation as an unstable party girl, often showing up to her club or TV performances too drunk to sing a whole set. Even her most popular song “Rehab” is based off her refusal to receive treatment for her drug abuse. Winehouse’s health greatly deteriorated. Her weight dropped to a scary estimate of ninety-five pounds while her skin took on a sickly pallor. Her iconic beehive hair fell dull and limp along with her bold signature makeup. There are countless photographs of the singer walking the streets of London in an incoherent, strung out daze appearing as a shell of her former self. In addition, the drug abuse took a serious mental toll on Winehouse. Her behavior became violent and erratic; on multiple occasions she is documented fighting with fans. The various drugs in Amy’s system distorted her public image, career, but most importantly her
We see behavior change when people start to see celebrities doing drugs or drinking. Why is it that all blogs or media sites only pay attention to the bad behavior? We see videos of famous people getting drunk, doing drugs, and even being disrespectful. Eventually, we see this domino effect on young girls, they start being rebellious, start talking back to their parents, even go to parties and drink. Nowadays, celebrities are seen as role models for these kids.
If there is one individual in the celebrity world that is known for his or her troubled thoughts or misbehavior, there isn’t anyone better to recognize other than Lindsay Lohan. An American star, model, and singer, Lohan was recognized in all different aspects of Hollywood because of her talents as a young actress. However, as her stardom continued to progress, so did the instability in her mental health. The mass media and people alike had an influence on Lohan’s behavior by distorting how she was portrayed on and off the screen. Lohan’s family life also had a huge impact on her turnout because she was constantly around the instability of her family members, thus affecting her mental

Addiction to drugs is very common in most music artist today. Society stresses the need for better music to vibe to, so music artists turn to an easier way to deal with it. Aragorn is the most qualified to bear the ring and cast it into the fires of Mount Doom due to his pure, kind heart, and his immense passion and dedication. Lastly he possesses powerful intellect and knowledge. These character traits would aide him on his journey to demolish and destroy the ring making him the most capable and competent member of the fellowship. It is these very honorable qualities that would best assist him in accomplishing his goal and purpose. In J.R.R Tolkien’s The Lord of Rings: The Fellowship of The Ring, Aragorn was initially presented as Strider, a queer, strange, scruffy, and grubby character who produced a suspicious ambiance at the inn in Bree making the Hobbits extremely cautious, for they perceived him as a doubtful, devious and untrustworthy person. But it was beneath this strange exterior that his humble and kind heart hid. He was a mighty, respectable warrior in disguise. It is later validated that he is an outstanding individual with clear, honest intentions. It is with these sincere intentions that Frodo and the entire Fellowship was persistently rescued from lurking dangers and hazards. His outer shell did not define the deep integrity and goodness he withheld.
This is exactly what the media does to celebrities. Most celebrities that we have become to know have all changed in a lot of way from before they started their career and when they actually became famous. There are many artists, actors, musicians that were once people you would not even believe. A story that really inspires me is the musical journey of Stefani Germanotta. A small recording artist, not very well know, that is why I choose to discuss her because she has been through this with the media. She went to a small all girls catholic school in New York City. Paris Hilton was in her school. Look where she got, where did she go. She was made fun of everyday for her appearance. She was musically inclined to no extent, she had the talent. She knew how to play the piano by herself by the age of four years old (4).By 13 she wrote her first ballad; by 19 she was writing songs for the Pussycat Dolls and Britney Spears. Obviously she had the talent so when she went to go get a record deal, she went to...
There was once a time when there were more simplistic views on life; where truth and justice prevailed above all and the main concerns of society were much more primitive. However, those times have long vanished and have now been strategically replaced by the commodity that celebrity culture fully encompasses. Guy Debord writes in The Society of the Spectacle, that the “spectacle is not a collection of images, but a social relation amongst people, mediated by images” (Debord, 4). By this, he simply means that the spectacle is constructed by the daily images devised by celebrities, reality television, and pseudo-events. And those images have altered and strongly influenced the way people perceive themselves and others, as well as the social
We are part of a generation that is obsessed with celebrity culture. Celebrities are distinctive. Media and consumers alike invented them to be a different race of super beings: flawless, divine and above all the real moral world. In a 1995 New York Times article “In contrast, 9 out of 10 of those polled could think of something
Much of today’s society seems obsessed on what actors/actress, athletes, and music artist are wearing, eating, who they are marrying, dating, where they are vacationing, what affairs they are having or have had, and how they live their everyday lives. What’s so interesting about this obsession is as a society we are implacable and often place celebrities on a pedestal, only to destroy them when they are illusive or promiscuous. Media outlets are swift to report when celebrities are in trouble but quickly forget all their accomplishments. It’s as if we want them to be perfect but once they are associated with a scandal we embark on destroying their reputation and character. Should society hold celebrities to higher standards just because they are paid millions for endorsements and a craft they worked hard to perfect? Do we as a society have the right to castigate celebrities when they misbehave? Do celebrities have the right to become livid when they are focused on for their immoral behavior? Do they love the media attention only when it benefits them? Before we can answer the above questions, would we, furthermore, can we live our life as a celebrity if given the opportunity?
Should celebrities have their right to privacy? Before newspapers, television, and the internet, ordinary people were not exposed to endless stories about celebrities. Today however, we are bombarded with information about who is dating whom, where they eat, and what they wear from magazines such as People, Entertainment Weekly, and Star. Also, most ordinary people respect the rights of others to a private life. However, some people are just obsessed to get information out of celebrities. They want to know everything about them and have a desire for more information. Celebrities should have their right to privacy due to historical/practical rights, their invasion of privacy with paparazzi, and their childrens’ rights to privacy. They are ordinary people just with a famous role in life.
In previous years, the issue with the paparazzi and media has grown. With the advances in technology, it makes taking and posting photos of celebrities or public figures much easier. The public appears greedy and feels privy to their private lives. Celebrities, or any public figure, have very limited privacy due to the paparazzi and media. The paparazzi and media are also affecting celebrities’ children. Currently, laws are being put in effect to stop this.
