The issue of single- sex education and mixed- sex education have occupied the minds of almost all the professors of the educational process all over the world for centuries. To deal with this issue, there must be many sayings and arguments. Also, other studies related, should be put into consideration. There are many more opinions that support single-sex education, others support co-education. Most world countries are following the opinion that says that coeducation is better and more effective than single sex education. Theoretically, co-educational process is more fruitful than single-sex education that's because of three main factors that affect greatly; firstly, the students' behavior; secondly, the educational level; thirdly the socialization in society and how students emotionally affected..
The supporters of single-sex education believe that students are greatly interested in the educational process itself, not caring for their appearance or behavior. These types of schools help students acting freely without any motivations. Series of studies have proved that boys' and girls' brains are organized differently so each of them needs special treatment. Also each gender has its own privacy in joking and talking seriously. The scientists who support the theory of single sex education contribute their opinion religiously, saying that all religions call for separating both sexes as it is forbidden and against the religious teachings. The same classrooms would make that imagination your reality. Before you turn down the idea, because God forbids you go a few hours without seeing a cute boy, take a moment to learn about all the benefits same-sex schooling can provide.
School reforms are not a new concept or trend; they have been developing since our nation’s educational system was founded. School reforms are an attempt to make the education system better; in effect, making our children more prepared to compete globally. The school reform that I have decided to research is single-gender schooling. This is the idea that students perform better academically when they are in classrooms with only classmates of the same sex. I have only had one (experimental) class like this: my 6th-grade science class. Whether or not being in a room with all males improved my test scores compared to my other classes or other students with mixed-gender classes, I have no clue, which is why I decided to research this school reform. It was definitely a different experience, but like many others, I wanted to know if it works. Because of it does, this could be a revolutionary discovery to benefit America’s next generation. However, there are opponents to single-gender classrooms, and we will hear what they (and the proponents) have to say about the subject.
Traditionally, schools have been coeducational, but in today’s world, single-sex schooling has become much more prominent. Whether the whole school consists of just one gender or classes are broken up by sex, mainly private schools are the ones that have implemented single-sex learning; but recently, many public schools have adopted the single-gender learning environment. In fact, there are now over 445 public schools that offer single-sex schooling (Novotney). Parents often debate which type of schooling exceeds the other, and they wonder what caused the other parents to pick the other type and what effects this decision will have on a child. The cause of picking either a single-sex school or a coed school usually just comes down to the parents' decision based on the kid and the parents’ point of view; however, picking one of the two affects the students' lives, personalities, and grades very much.
The single-sex format creates opportunities that do not exist in the coed classroom. (Edison 1) Researchers are unaware that both genders brains function differently. This lack of knowledge may be why the real truth about single-sex education being more efficient than co-ed education has not been discovered. Some say single-sex education may be the key for a brighter generation. It shows to improve test score dramatically. The number of public schools experimenting with single sex classes is now reported to be more than 350. (Silva 130) Some research also shows that single-sex classes have a more welcoming atmosphere. Single-sex education improves grades while coed educations keep an average pace.
This is a benefit to great academic performance for the schools. Same sex schooling does not just make the students better; it makes them more well-rounded people. The benefits of same-sex schools are not only academic. Same-sex education has been shown to broaden students’ horizons. These schools have allowed the students to feel free to explore their own strengths and interests, not limited by gender stereotypes. A British researcher compared the attitudes of 13 and 14 year-old students toward different subjects. Students at coed schools tended to have gender-typical subject preferences. Boys at coed schools liked math and science and did not like drama or languages, whereas boys at same-sex schools were more interested in drama, biology and languages. Girls at same sex schools were more interested in math and science than the girls at coed schools. When girls are amongst boys, they feel a greater urge to be feminine, a lot of times without even realizing it. These stereotypes are affecting girl’s achievements. A lot of girls would like to do what she is interested in, but social pressure and competition from boys means that very few girls have the courage to follow their interests, especially if they are interested in “geeky/girly”
Education is a vital tool that every young person needs to be able to start a life of their own. Without education it becomes harder to find a steady job and a stable income. As with any important resource, there are so many debates surrounding different styles of education. One major style of education being debated today is the idea of single sex education. The idea of essentially segregating students based on sex seems outrageous to some people. However, dividing the sexes may be a necessary and important new way to heighten the learning experience.

This concer causes the theory that there would be more focus in single gender schools because with the same gender, students can focus more in class in comparison to worrying about romantic relationships. While this may sound like a logical argument, one should keep in mind that it is beneficial for students to develop their social skills which should not limited to interaction with one single gender. According to Lise Eliote, an associate professor of neuroscience at the Chicago Medical School, “While children of both sexes play together as toddlers, by the end of kindergarten, they spend only 9 percent of their playtime with children of the other sex…‘Separation is a fact of human childhood and is equally common among young monkeys and apes”’ (Yates). It is important to teach students to interact with a diverse group of people in order to adjust them for the real world, such as, college and work forces. Co-ed schools include a broad diversity of people which accustom students to interact not only with people who are similar to them, but also work together with people who are different as well. Even though single sex schools allows girls or boys to feel like a family, this style of education will not benefit students’ social factors towards the opposite gender.
