“All Biofuels Are Not Created Equal” is a very informative article that everyone should be aware of. The authors of this article show how biofuels can be made to benefit Earth. Our ecological footprint is so big that everyone requires 2.5 Earths to maintain the same lifestyle. What does this reveal? It reveals that Earth’s resources are being diminished. This means that the world needs to do something to prevent this so Earth can last for future generations. The way that biofuels are being made is not very effective in helping this problem. This is because it either requires deforestation or the burning of fossil fuels, which the world is trying to stop. Instead of using corn or sugar cane as ethanol, alternative crops should be used because it will benefit our environment the most.
The authors of this article are David Tilman and Jason Hill. David Tilman is a Regents Professor and McKnight Presidential Professor of Ecology at the University of Minnesota. Tilman is interested in “the benefits that society receives from natural and managed ecosystems and in the ways to assure environmental and social sustainability in the face of global increases in human consumption and population.” He has also written many scholarly articles and books on resource and plant competition and on biofuels. Tilman is very knowledgeable in his field of study; therefore, we can most certainly take his word for everything he talks about in this article.
Jason Hill is an Assistant Professor in Bioproducts and Biosystems engineering. He is currently focusing his research on how the global biofuels industry will affect climate change, land use, biodiversity, and human well-being. The authors talk about how biofuels are currently being made and how effective they are. They tell the readers the problems that these methods cause, and show the readers the solution. Using alternative crops to make biofuel will reduce the amount of fossil fuels that are being burnt which in turn will reduce our ecological footprint. Creation ethanol from corn or sugar cane helps the environment very little. Not only that, but it creates many other problems as mentioned before. From what we know so far, the alternative crops method for creating biofuels is the most efficient, and it is what everyone should be focusing on. This is a problem that affects everyone; therefore, this is a problem that everyone should be trying to fix.

The world is a growing, thriving place where more and more people are on the world than there ever was before these people are living longer and healthier because of modern medicine. Industry, businesses, and farms are expanding at an exponential rate, and they need more vehicles and more ways to transport their goods to the consumers. But because there are more people that they are living longer and our need for fuel is growing more by the day it is causing a large strain on our need for power, fuel, and ability to produce and grow food. With this new found growth, a product is needed to fuel the growth. While coal and oil are the majority in fueling our expansion, we have found new methods in being able to power our vehicles and heat our homes in bio-fuel which is much cleaner and does not have a finite amount like the fossil fuel alternatives. The most common of these Bio-fuels that we use come from corn and other crops that are typically for our food supply. But that is the problem, that it takes away from our food supply that we could be using else where such as trade or just feeding our-selves.
Some of the ways we try to combat Climate Change differes from region to region and culure to culture. One of the remedies that seems to be adapting all around the world is the use of biofuels instead of using fossil fuels. People believe that instead of digging up and using oil and petroleum, our best solution to combat greenhouse gases emitted by fossil fuels is to plant soybeans, sugar cane, palm oil and use that as a replacement. Before talking about biofuels, you need to know the basics from where it is created from. Biofuels are produced from biomass, which is derived from living or recently living plant matter such as trees, grasses, agricultural residue, algae, and other biological material. “Biofuel is considered carbon neutral”, which absorbs roughly the same amount of carbon dioxide during growth as when it is burnt (Rutherford, 2009). Biofuels is much cleaner than petrol/diesel because of the considerable impact petrol/diesel has on the environment from the high fuel emissions. The world depends heavily on fossil fuels such as coal, oil, and natural gas for energy, and while the world's population and energy consumption continue to increase, the non-renewable resources we need to produce energy will eventually be depleted. According to the U.S. Energy Information Administration, the supply of oil left in the world will last us twenty five more years. One may say that twenty five years is a long time, and by then new sources of fuel will surely have replaced the nonrenewable sources we currently use to meet our energy demands. This, however, should not be the approach the world takes to solve this issue. Instead of hoping that the problem will solve itself in the years to come, it is our duty as a planet to take this matter into our own hands and to change the ways we acquire our energy before we run out of resources and suffer an energy crisis. Renewable energy sources, such as biomass, can be the solution to securing reliable energy in the future. Unlike coal, oil, or gas, biomass always replenishes itself, and can easily be converted into energy through numerous processes. In addition to being renewable, biomass is a "clean" source of energy that has a less negative impact on the environment than today's fossil fuels.
The concept of this essay is to stress that biofuels are a viable and sustainable energy source than fossil fuels, showing its advantages but not ignoring its disadvantages which also enlightens us about the cleaner and renewable natural resources. Biofuels is an alternative source of energy which can end the global dependence on fossil fuels.
