The first part of the prayer includes, Dear God, we thank you for this day and the opportunity to worship, we ask you that you will meet us and fill us fresh with spirits and we will return the love you pour into us as worship to you. Help us set aside whatever detracts. We pray this in Jesus name. Amen. After the prayers, Reverend Bob Johnston discussed about the two commandments of several commandments of the lord. The first and the greatest commandment is that you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind. The second commandment is that you shall love your neighbor as yourself. The background of the stage included two tall candles and holy cross with Jesus Christ and the table was covered with cloth depicting ancient …show more content…
An important thing to note is the fact that the people also closed their eyes while looking down. The prayer in the live stream was Grant, Almighty God, that all who confess your Name may be united in your truth, live together in your love, and reveal your glory in the world, guide the people of this land, and of all the nations, in the ways of justice and peace; that we may honor one another and serve the common good, give us all a reverence for the earth as your own creation, that we may use its resources rightly in the service of others and to your honor and glory, comfort and heal all those who suffer in body, mind, or spirit; especially those affected by the earthquake in Mexico and Hurricane Maria and other recent hurricanes; give them courage and hope in their troubles and bring them the joy of your
Although the history of Haslett Community Church may not be as long and storied as other churches, it is nevertheless a rich history. The roots of our community church began to grow on March 23, 1954 when several persons met at the home of Conrad and Rose Haney to discuss the need for a new church in Haslett. An open meeting was held at the Township Hall on March 31, 1954 to plan for a church. At that meeting, forty-nine people elected a steering committee and planned for services. One month and two days later on April 25, 1954, and one week after Easter, one hundred forty five people attended the first worship service and Sunday school above the old Township Hall and fire station on the northeast corner of Haslett and Okemos Roads. For the first year or so, guest ministers provided most of the sermons. Occasionally there would be a fire call and the siren would blow, interrupting the service. This always delighted the young children.
The New Salem Association of the Old Regular Baptist was established in the year of 1825 in Eastern Kentucky. The New Salem Association is still going strong today. Most associations today are a branch from the New Salem Association. There are a few Old Regular Baptist churches that are private; basically they do not belong to any association. The New Salem Association is in correspondence with several other Associations which is as followed Union, Old Indian Bottom, Sardis, Philadelphia, Northern New Salem, and Friendship.
The service concluded with the bishop standing and speaking to the people for a few minutes he spoke on the importance of the service and He shared some scripture and personal stories. After the service Father Constantine invited everyone next door for refreshments, and stayed in the nave to answer any of our questions, this time was very helpful to me since this was my first time at a Orthodox church. Overall it was a very enjoyable experience I learned a lot about the Orthodox tradition. I don't think I would have been able to grasp the differences between the different branches in Christianity without witnessing them first hand.
The First Commandment. The first commandment is Thou shalt have no other gods before me.
How do we stay Wesleyan if we don't heed the Notes and Sermons of John Wesley in some way
The African Methodist Episcopal Church also known as the AME Church, represents a long history of people going from struggles to success, from embarrassment to pride, from slaves to free. It is my intention to prove that the name African Methodist Episcopal represents equality and freedom to worship God, no matter what color skin a person was blessed to be born with. The thesis is this: While both Whites and Africans believed in the worship of God, whites believed in the oppression of the Africans’ freedom to serve God in their own way, blacks defended their own right to worship by the development of their own church. According to Andrew White, a well- known author for the AME denomination, “The word African means that our church was organized by people of African descent Heritage, The word “Methodist” means that our church is a member of the family of Methodist Churches, The word “Episcopal refers to the form of government under which our church operates.”
"Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy might. This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets." [Matthew 22:37-40, AV]
Brother Terry, lead us in a quick prayer to open the morning's service. The band was already in position and a worship team was waiting in the wings.
My home church is United Methodist. I have gone there ever since I was a child because that is where my mother went to church. Through researching this paper I found many interesting things about my church. There are many points and issues I agree with and many I disagree with. Writing this really made me think about my denomination closely and if it’s the right one for me.

Mark 12:30-31; You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind, and with all your strength. The second is this: You shall love your neighbor as yourself. There is no other commandment greater than these.

As one can see, God’s two greatest commandments are found in Matthew 22:34-40, and they are very powerful and meaningful. When the lawyer confronted Jesus with the question of the greatest commandment He did not hesitate to tell the lawyer that the greatest commandments revolved around love. Not just regular love, but agape love, which is a type of love that God shows to individuals. This type of love is an unconditional type love that is shown to people even when things are not good. When Jesus was on the earth he expected people to cherish and obey these commandments in hope of one day entering the kingdom of heaven.
”(Brundidge-Fuller 49). By following these commandments, the appreciation of the covenant with God is shown. Since everyone is made in God’s image and likeness, that means his actions should be emulated through everyone. In all decisions, God will make sure that everything he does is done the right way, if others are hurt or mistreated in the process then a good outcome means nothing.... ...
The Greatest Commandment “to love God” is the first and greatest commandment of all. In researching this commandment I have found that to love God is truly what God really wants from all of us. The commandment is referenced in all four of the gospels of the New Testament as well as being referenced in the Old Testament through the Ten Commandments in which the New Testament was based on. This commandment is so powerful it is found in Luke 10:25-37, Mark 12:28-34, John 13:34-35 and Matthew 22:34-40. It is also found in Deuteronomy 6:5 and also based on the Ten Commandments in Exodus 20:1-17. Take for instance the gospel of Matthew in where the New Testament begins with the book of Matthew revealing the fulfillment of the prophecies in Jesus Christ, the long-awaited Messiah. Matthew was a Jewish tax collector for the Roman government who was called upon by Jesus to become one of the 12 apostles which often in his gospel will give us an eye witness account. Matthew wrote the gospel while living in Antioch, Syria after following Jesus between the years of A.D. 50-70. Matthews’s gospel provides an essential link between the Old and New Testament. Matthew 22:34-40 teaches us of the greatest commandment and what God wants from us foremost. In the scripture of Matthew 22:34-40 where this commandment is told by Jesus to the religious leaders, the Sadducees and the Pharisees who were attacking him and challenging him with one of the Pharisees in particular who was a lawyer decided to test Jesus in hopes of embarrassing him by asking: “Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the law?” (NIV, Matthew 22:36) Knowing that this was a difficult question because of the Ten Commandments in the Old Testament in which all are from ...
