In my opinion Alice Cooper is a rock and roll singer who you either enjoyed or you didn’t because his music was unlike any other. He is an American shock rock singer, songwriter and musician with a career which spans five decades. He had incredible stage shows which featured guillotines, electric chairs, fake blood, boa constrictors and baby dolls. To his friends and fans he’s known as “The Godfather of Shock Rock”.
Alice Cooper hails from Detroit, Michigan. He and his band came into the limelight in 1971 with the hit “I’m Eighteen” from the album Love It to Death. This was followed by an even bigger hit single in 1972 “School’s Out”. They reached the peak in rock and roll music with their 1973 album Billion Dollar Babies. He has combined different musical styles consisting of conceptual rock, art rock, hard rock, heavy metal, New Wave, pop rock, experimental rock and industrial rock.
When Alice Cooper isn’t singing he’s also a film actor, a golfing celebrity, a restaurateur and since 2004 has become a popular radio DJ with his own classic rock show Nights with Alice Cooper. In 2011 he and his original band were inducted into The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
One of Alice Cooper’s greatest albums came out in the summer of 1972 and included the single “School’s Out” which shot up to number 10 on the U.S.

When I was first given this assignment earlier in the semester, I knew whom I wanted to right about immediately. One of the most recognizable rock stars from the 1980’s and even now, the bassist from Motley Crue, Nikki Sixx.
Ruby Bridges is a prime example of how little girls with bright minds hold so much power. Not only was she intelligent, Ruby was also courageous, determined and warm-hearted. During the time when she was growing up, society was more discriminative towards African-Americans. It was so severe that little kids were separated in schools just based on the pigment of their skin. As the first black child to attend a white elementary school, she was defying stereotypes and changing history, not to mention, she looked absolutely adorable doing it.
In this essay I will be comparing the life of two valuable musicians of the entertainment industry, Brad Nowell and Kurt Cobain. Bradley James Nowell was born to Nancy and James Nowell on February 22, 1968. The family resided in Long Beach California. Growing up, Brad was a bright and intelligent boy, but disliked school. In fact, he hated it so much that he would have his younger sister do his homework for him. His parents had concluded that it was just a lack of attention toward one subject at a time. At the age of nine, Brad was diagnosed with Attention Deficit Disorder and was prescribed Ritalin to gain control over it. Kurt Donald Cobain was also diagnosed with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder and was prescribed Ritalin. Kurt was born to Donald and Wendy Cobain on February 20, 1967 in Seattle, Washington. Kurt was also a smart boy with high hopes but also with a dislike towards school. Kurt's parents went through a divorce when he was six years old. His mother had taken him and moved a few towns away from Seattle. He had a hard time dealing with the divorce, going back and forth between parents and aunts and uncles. Kurt eventually started becoming rebellious, unlike Brad, who actually enjoyed the time spent with each parent alone after their divorce. When Brad was eleven, his father took him on a trip to the Virgin Islands where Brad was exposed to the reggae culture of music. This is where most of his influences were developed. He began to teach himself to play the guitar and practice reggae and punk-rock music all day everyday, which had later made him famous. Kurt, on the other hand, had come upon his influences in a different way. Growing up near Seattle, the Pacific Northwest had more of a hardcore punk-rock scene. He started smoking marijuana and taking other drugs like LSD and pain killers. He, like Brad, had begun teaching himself chords on the guitar and creating local bands across Seattle. Kurt had also spend a lot of time reading at the local library to gain more information that he knew he wouldn't learn in school. For instance, he would read books on society and cultures around the states, which influenced many of his songs he had written that had led to his fame.
He also was known to influences experimental new music and electronic music. Although he spent a good part of his life in the recording studio, he also performed live. In addition to being one of the greatest vocalists in the 1950s, Holly played guitar, a variety of percussion instruments, and electric bass. Although Holly’s music career was short lived, the amount of music he produced is very impressive. As a songwriter, he is famous for developing his own material. It is in his songs and his band, The Crickets, that we truly see Buddy Holly’s unique musical personality. Holly also appeared to be a vocalist and instrumentalist, playing bass and guitar on almost all his songs. “Buddy Holly played rock and roll for only a few short years, but the wea...
There have been many bigshot artists that have gone down in music history over the years. One man in particular, however, will forever be known all over the world for his famous works and amazing stage performances. This man is none other than the one and only Jimi Hendrix. Hendrix altered the style of rock and roll during the late 60’s early 70’s and is widely considered one of the most influential guitar players amongst the music world to this day.
“You'll never do a whole lot unless you're brave enough to try”-Dolly Parton. Most people only know her because of her music, which is very inspirational, however she has done so much more. She is always looking for ways to give back because she knows what it like to not have much. She loves to help kids in need. Dolly Parton is one of the most inspirational people in the world, and her influence has affected so many people that her legacy will live on long after she's gone.
There possibly isn't an album in history that is as genre defining as Nirvana's Nevermind. Released in 1991, it single handedly was responsible for the birth of what became to be known as grunge and has gone on to sell over 10 million copies in the United States alone (Stuessy, Joe). It reached number 1 in 1991 and was the first album to bring Seattle grunge to the mainstream audience (Stuessy, Joe). Nevermind is a mix of slow, dark songs and fast paced grunge rock songs. With its grinding guitars, pounding drums, and lead singer, Kurt Cobain's distinctive voice, Nevermind found a distinctive way to fuse alternative punk with 70's rock (Nirvana, Nevermind).
...leased on DVD as “Live at Donington”. A year later, AC/DC recorded "Big Gun" for the soundtrack of the Arnold Schwarzenegger movie “Last Action Hero”, and was released as a single reaching No.1 on the US Mainstream Rock chart, the band's first No.1 single on that chart. The band is currently in the making of a new album, supposedly. It is still the same lineup and their most recent tour “Black Ice” sold out shows wherever they went. The band claims that they are still together and are planning another tour, which just goes to show how much of a powerhouse AC/DC really is.
We already brought you part one of this list of facts about Russell Wilson, the successful quarterback of the Seattle Seahawks. There are still plenty of interesting facts to share about the athlete, so we're back with part two.

He and his other three friends played mostly gospel music. To this Phillips said, “go home and sin, then come back with a song I can sell” (SunRecords.com). Cash came back, and eventually won him over with two of hit songs, “Hey Porter” and “Cry Cry Cry,”. Cash deserves recognition for the amazing work in these songs, along with his determination to keep going, and get a record deal.
Kurt Donald Cobain was born on February 20, 1967 in Aberdeen, Washington. His parents, Don and Wendy, though young (21 and 19 years old), tried to educate him and take care of him. At age 2, Kurt created an imaginary friend, Boddah, and became severely attached to him. Cobain had an interest in music and his family motivated him to play piano, drums, and create song lyrics. In 1972, Kurt started kindergarten and was regarded as “a precocious inquisitive pupil with a Snoopy lunchbox” (“Heavier” 11). He did well in school, but had a knack for art, partially because it was encouraged by his grandfather. Kurt’s ADHD developed in second grade and teachers started to comment on his endless energy. Don and Wendy Cobain decided to give Kurt Ritalin, a medicine to help combat the symptoms of ADHD. But, this was controversial because Ritalin is connected to an increase in likelihood of addictive behavior later in life (“Heavier” 19). In 1976, Kurt’s parents divorced and to Kurt it was “an emotional holocaust” and helped shape his personality later in life...
Cooper uses anecdotal evidence in her essay, because it strengthens the essay and it gives the reader and personal experience to be able to visualize the theme or plot of the essay. Giving a personal experience adds credibility to the essay and people will be able to relate to the writer. It doesn,t make the situation look impossible and make it seem easier to reach out to whatever goal the reader has.
The public considers the Rock to be a celebrity being that he has gone from music, to commercials, to sports, and journalism. He has starred on Saturday Night Live, That 70’s Show, and will soon be featured in the sequel to “The Mummy” as the Scorpion King. He is an entertainer who loves performing for the crowd. As he himself said, “Always entertaining the fans and knowing that I’m entertaining them-that’s the goal, to entertain the fans and nothing compares to that.” Each time he appears somewhere knew it adds to his popularity more and more. You start to conform to this so- called “reality.”
