Light hearted and full of wonder, Alexa takes the world as she sees it. The magic of movies captures her sense of astonishment, and grows her imagination. As big as the sun is Alexa’s imagination. Similarly to Poseidon “who have an active imagination and an intense inner life beyond their everyday existence” (Stassinopoulos pg 220-221). Poseidon, who is known for his imagination, loves his mythical existence and enjoys the extraordinary. Further, dreams are an enormous part of Alexa’s life. They allow her wildest thoughts to be played out right in front of her. Additionally, dreams are not only a thing of the night, Alexa is a repeated daydreamer. Alexa’s life can hit boring patches that “can bring about the urge to escape from the responsibilities …show more content…
Taught when she was younger to observe not speak, Alexa has developed the ability to see and understand things that happens around her. With Alexa’s exceptional listening skills, she has made deep friendships with her peers. Not only females but males to enjoy being listened to and understood. Many times has Alexa been texted or called with friends that want her comforting words. Athena the goddess of wisdom, has shown many of these qualities before. Comparable to when “Athena smiles and understands and whispers back words of comfort, advice and wisdom" (Stassinopoulos pg 221). Not so concerned with love, Alexa currently walks through life looking for a higher understanding of her world. To Alexa love seems something as a faraway goal, to be dealt with at later times. But Alexa enjoys many relationships that don’t focus on sexuality. She thrives off of contact with those closest to her. Alexa glories in long lasting friendships and pray that they last a lifetime. Almost identical to Athena in that “love affairs pass, but Athena’s friendships remain and grow deeper” (Stassinopoulos pg 221). While Alexa wants to have a family one day, it is not a current goal for
Virgil’s Aeneid, one of the masterpieces of Roman literature and the founding epic of the greatest empire in the Classical world, showcases many techniques of typical Roman poetry. The poetic traditions handed down from the Homeric epics are clearly shown throughout the epic, and one aspect of this literary tradition is the use of dreams throughout the epic. Three of the central characters in the epic - Aeneas, Dido, and Turnus - were all chronologically first introduced in a dream. These dream sequences allow Vergil to introduce characters from a different perspective, but dreams also serve as a method for Vergil to make prophecies and admonish characters for their actions without breaking the realism of the epic. The most prominent dream
The movie, Loving, directed by Jeff Nichols is based on a true story about Richard, and Mildred Loving, an interracial couple fighting for their rights to stay married, and be able to raise their family in the state of Virginia where in the 1950’s it was illegal to be married to a race other than your own. Richard Loving grew up in a small town called Caroline County in the state of Virginia, where he met Mildred and knew that he would do anything to be able to call Mildred his wife. Richard proposed to Mildred on an estate of land he bought for them to raise a family on one day. Mildred agrees to marry him, but unfortunately, they are aware that in the state of Virginia it is illegal for them to get married because of their anti-miscegenation law. They agree that they will go to Washington, D.C., where they will be able to become legally married. In 1958, Richard and Mildred Loving became legally married in Washington, D.C. When they return home to the State of Virginia they are harassed by the Caroline County police and thrown into jail because they got married outside of the state that they reside in, which is illegal in Virginia. Richard is set out on bail, but Mildred is forced to stay in jail for several more days. Richard and Mildred’s case was presented before a judge to decide the ramifications of their actions.
Sylvia uses her daydreams as an alternative to situations she doesn't want to deal with, making a sharp distinction between reality as it is and reality as she wants to perceive it. For instance, as they ride in a cab to the toy store, Miss Moore puts Sylvia in charge of the fare and tells her to give the driver ten percent. Instead of figurin...
Imagine being a young girl dreaming of becoming a woman and flying like a super hero over your neighborhood, seeing everything that happens at night. Then, you wake up to realize you are still a young girl sleeping in your room with white “princess” furniture. This is part of the narrator’s dream in the story “Volar” by Judith Ortiz Cofer, but what exactly does this dream mean? Many details can be interpreted by analyzing the character and theme, both by using the reader response approach and the psychological approach made, mostly developed by Sigmond Freud’s theories.
Calypso feels that her sexuality makes her susceptible to unfair treatment by the gods. This further proves the point that women were objectified, sexually and otherwise, in Greek culture. It is important to note that Odysseus’ relationship with most goddesses throughout The Odyssey involves the act of sex. Athena, on the other hand, personifies both feministic and non-feministic traits, although they are not necessarily masculine traits. This is quite strange, however, as most women are represented as solely feminine and completely inferior to men. Athena is the goddess of wisdom and war. According to Homer, in the Iliad, Athena is portrayed as a fierce and ruthless warrior, characteristics that women were not generally assigned during this time period. At the same time, Athena is illustrated as being emotional, acting on her emotions. She has a

She places in people the desire to have sexual relations and causes fear in men of the power of seduction by women. Her marriage to her husband was ignored as she had affairs with immortal and mortal men. Her infidelity in her marriage places her on the side with Greek men, rather than Greek women because only Greek men were able to cheat on their wives; not the other way around. In conclusion, the three important rules discussed in this paper that Greek women were required to obey, can be seen in the myths of the goddesses Hera, Athena, and Aphrodite. Whether or not the Greek goddesses obeyed or did not obey these rules, their importance to the Greek culture is ever strong.
Movies are everywhere. They are a part of everyone’s life. Think about it, how many movies do you
Aristophanes’ speech is an example of love and the measures people go through to find their soulmate. He is celebrated for his originality in conceptualizing a form of love where two bodies are separated and then search to find their other half. The effects of Aristophanes’ speech are still seen today and are a great example of the true love much of popular culture tries to emulate. He raises a good question of true love and the various ways it shapes our lives. He also helps us to characterize the journey that all of us go on, consciously or not, to find someone we will spend the rest of our lives with. The idea of finding “the one” still reigns true in our culture and personal lives and is in large part thanks to Aristophanes’ vision of
Mental illness can be defined as a variety of disorders within the brain that can affect an individual’s mood, way of thinking and behaviour. These illnesses are caused by biological, psychological and sociological influences. Mental illnesses have become more prominent throughout communities while the seeking for help or a cure has appeared to become less evident. In today’s society, mental illnesses are portrayed through various media platforms in a way that causes such a stigma around the illness that it affects those who suffer almost as much as the illness itself.
For instance the description that the brain was, “pop-pop-popping “portrays the sensation that the brain is plastic; hence, it can be expanded through knowledge and perseverance. Also, the author cleverly uses the phrase, “I never knew a poet person” to emphasize lack of knowledge leads to false perceptions of reality. Jack uses the absolute word “Never” to describe his feeling. If one never thinks about the endless possibilities of success, then they will become their own culprit. The articulate, yet simple language of the author adds rich content to the story making it more relatable to all age groups. The novel instills the value of hope in readers. It encourages readers not to fear the unknown. Indeed with a growth mindset, one can beat the odds and live a meaningful
The inner self of humans is a confusing and intriguing place, the unconscious mind reigns supreme here controlling the flow of information and selectively filtering it (Kluners 2014) as it becomes a conscious thought, a deeper understanding of the unconscious mind, its defenses, and a mechanisms such as a dream by which we can peer into the unconscious mind will help one to grow personally, (Newirth 2014) and to unlock the immense creativity (Perera 2013) and potential waiting to be unleashed.
Dreams have long been the basis for extensive analysis, their meanings interpreted and reinterpreted. Some people believe that dreams reflect our repressed emotions, providing a necessary outlet for the negative aspects of our reality. Others find answers through dreams, believing that dreams provide simple solutions to seemingly complex issues in our lives. Louise Bogan, in her poem "The Dream," describes a dream that expresses both repression and solution. It is a poem about fear, and Bogan's message--the message of the dream, in fact--is that fear can be tamed through trust.
When people fall asleep, their minds are taken on a journey beyond their control. They sleep through the night and dream for a small fraction of the time, yet dreams feel as if they last for hours, because of the combination of overlapping events, abnormal situations, and extraordinary details. Some people find meaningful interpretations of dreams, while others reject the idea that dreams are relevant to reality. Even though the true purpose of a dream is arguable, people can still benefit from them. Journalism allows a people to extract their dreams from their subconscious state of mind. The concept of a dream journal is to keep record of dreams as they occur. It allows a person to easily retrieve dreams in the past rather than attempting to do so from memory. It is fascinating how imaginative people are during their dreams, yet they struggle to be creative in their writing. Dream journals train the incorporation of creativity and detail in writing and consist of various stories that can be either confusing or insightful. Because dreams have numerous features, it is necessary to write down every detail. If one is experiencing trouble using details in personal writing, then dream journals will work in his or her favor, especially if used daily. A person’s writing skills improve due to forming a habit of recalling and recording details.
