Alecia Beth Moore: From Troubled Teen to P!nk Superstar

In order to appreciate P!nk’s original music, one must understand P!nk’s defective childhood, how she overcame the struggles in her life, and the foundation and inspiration she left for other upcoming musical artists.

P!nk was born Alecia Beth Moore in Doylestown, Pennsylvania on September 8, 1979. She was later raised in Pennsylvania amidst the complicated relationship between her parents James and Judy Moore. She was the second child in a middle class family and her parents divorced before she was ten years old (Pink Biography). P!nk soon began acting out. At nine years old she started smoking cigarettes, when she was twelve she got a tattoo and a tongue piercing, and at age fifteen P!nk nearly had a drug overdose. As a sophomore in high school she had tried everything from cocaine to marijuana and was arrested multiple times for petty crime. She didn’t keep close relationships as a child because her friends’ parents felt she was a bad influence. But P!nk stayed close to her father, a Vietnam war veteran. P!nk’s father taught her how to use guns and knives, and even fight. He molded her into the tough woman she remained all her life (Pink).

There were many events in her musical career that she went through. By the time P!nk was 15, she had officially decided she wanted to be a musician. She had to work for everything she wanted; luxury was not immediately thrown at her. P!nk always seems confident, and when people voice their opinions, no matter how rude or irrelevant, she’ll listen if she can, and react if she needs to. The face of modern pop music was impacted greatly by P!nk, she paved the road for many female artists. P!nk’s childhood, musical struggles, and influence on others show the character of Alecia Beth More. P!nk is what she does, but Alecia is who she is.
