“Thanks for the offer,” you say “but I don’t drink alcohol.” “It’s just coke, your friend to came with said you don’t drink alcohol.” He stretches out his hand with the drink and smile at you. Without thinking about it you take the drink and take a sip. “Thanks” you say. What you don’t know is that the seemingly nice stranger actually drugged your drink. Just a short time later you are getting led up the stairs to a bedroom. “No stop!” you try to yell and pull away but the drug he slipped in your coke is in effect and you know there is not much you can do except pray that someone walks in and stops your rapist. The next thirty minutes are a blur and all you remember is him getting off of you, zipping up his pants followed by the words ‘I
"One whiskey for me 'an my friend" he muttered, sliding his glass across the counter towards the bartender.
Christian:That's very generous, but you know I don't drink. Please, tell him thanks, but no thanks” (49).
PURPOSE: To persuade my audience NOT to drink and drive Every person is accountable for his or her own “right to drink”. Failure to treat this or any “right” responsibly has consequences. The person’s “right” can and should be taken away when the failure to act responsibly endangers others.
Do you enjoy being told what to do after you turn an 18 and you become an adult? I know I don’t. As you transition into that adult phase you get to enjoy adult activities such as voting and joining the military. As an adult there comes responsibility and at some points you have to make tough decisions. One of those decision include are you going to drink under age. What if I could tell you that the drinking age use to be 18 years old in 30 states. Should the drinking age go back to 18 years old? I am one who believes that as an adult you should have the ability to make those decisions. Lower the drinking age to 18, but we need to enforce the laws and educate our youth.
Imagine being blamed for something you didn't do. It is irritating right? Well secondhand smoking is the same concept. Inhaling secondhand smoke is becoming just as dangerous as being the person who picks up the cigarette. Anually, secondhand smoking kills over 36,000 people from lung cancer and heart disease. It can cause ear infections, pneumonia, asthma attacks, and respitory infections in young children and babies. Second hand smoke contains the same chemicals that are inside a cigarette, therefore, it's as if the person just inhaling the smoke is smoking their own cigarette. Today, laws have been put in place to prevent nonsmokers from being exposed to secondhand smoke. For example, it is no longer aloud for people to smoke in public
During the dark hours, my grandfather was walking the streets in El Monte, California. It never crossed his mind that during that night his life would flash before his eyes. He was at a crosswalk where he pressed the button to cross the street. Once the cross light switched for him to cross, he did. He took his first step off the sidewalk and began walking. My grandfather did not realize what was to come once he stepped off the sidewalk. A car approached going over the speed limit. The person in the car was under the influence and ran a red light. It was then that my grandfather was hit by a drunk driver. My grandfather passed away at the sight of the scene. The young adult that hit him was taken into custody and put on trial for my grandfather’s death. If it wasn’t for the drunk driver who ran the red light that night my grandfather would still be alive today. Unfortunately, that is not the case. Today there are
For many of us when we get sick or have a pre-existing condition and need medications we have our doctors send the prescriptions to our pharmacy of choice or have a paper copy we can take ourselves. When getting to the pharmacy you always have one questions for the person behind the counter and that is “are my prescriptions ready yet?” You left your doctor’s appointment fifteen minutes ago why wouldn’t it be ready yet. What we don’t know is that there is a process to getting prescriptions ready for us, the one going through the process for up to hundreds of people a day is my girlfriend Amanda Duran.
Dusk didn’t quite turn out as well as we hoped it would have. To the group being presented to, mystery was not their thing. They prefered straight forward answers and bright, more popular choices. Our attempt at a more mysterious drink that makes you curious didn’t go over well with the group of students that voted over the drinks. We left off the nutrition label in order to cause some wonder; and, we figured that not many people read it anyway. Another thing we did was made the drink dark and had the catchphrase, “As Flavorful as the Night is Eventful” (although not advertised well), and “Drink Like a Beast” to symbolize activities, strength, and enjoyment. Our commercial was made to represent a fun night with friends and how Dusk will make your night even better; that it tastes as great as the night is eventful.
Two years ago at the age of 16, just another Saturday afternoon in Fillmore, California, a day to be filled with good memories and laughs, well that is what I had guessed. Walking into a room where the party was being held and the cups filled with drinks the color of the rainbow, and the stench of demons waiting to reach your soul filled the air. Alcohol has never been a necessity to me, but to my family now that is a different story.
Malia Lestrange, an adolescent college girl was wandering in the dark drunk, with no one around and unaware of her surroundings. Little did she know someone was surveying her every move, lingering for the precise moment to take advantage of her. Malia was then, grabbed from behind in the predator's trap tainted by the darkness and raped. She couldn't grant any consent or the strength to control her body to break free. After that incident, she was later found by a local pedestrian unconscious and bare. Many females and males can fall into the victim to these types of situations when under the influence, especially on college campuses. However, considering the many challenges faced when drinking on campus, it’s understandable that many college
Who would want their child to start drinking at a young age? Advertising for alcohol should be banned from television because of adolescents health. Experts have proof that adolescent who watch more television with alcohol in it, tend to be drinking at a young age and when they are older become alcoholics. Advertising alcohol will cause adolescent to damage their whole body. For example, alcohol can damage the brain by interfering with the brain’s communication pathways. Drinking alcohol can cause one to act differently than how they normally would. In my personal experience I have a family who drinks and becomes violent and others pass out or become vulnerable. These reactions are dangerous to consumers and those around them. Therefore, advertising alcohol on television or any type of media will both hurt and frighten their love ones.
Specific Purpose: After listening to my speech, my audience will know how alcohol was made and how it affects humans negatively and positively.
Whiskey, gin, beer, look at them over there calling out names, I know these teanagers are trying so hard not to drink but why what's stopping them only good things can come out of this situation: dancing, doing crazy things, falling over, cracking jokes, getting loud what better can we ask for. They should go ahead and listen to their friends, they should take a drink it won’t kill them. They need to just ignore the fact that they have to drive home and that they'll get blurred vision, one drink won't hurt. In fact it will be easier to drive home while drinking. That way they will be able to drive, drink, and still have time to get their friends home and make it home in time for curfew. They can't hurt anyone, they have driven home while drinking plenty of time before.
Underage drinking is a well know thing everywhere, I’m sure any teenage can say that they participated in binge drinking or even got drunk before. Even though it is also a bad trend to start at a young age many kids tend to not care and just join the crowd. By the age of 15, thirty-three percent of teenagers said that they had at least one alcoholic drink. A reason why a 15-year-old would try to drink is peer pressure, they want to fit in or they think that there cooler because they drink now. Once they see their friends drink they feel like they should do it to just like the saying monkey see monkey do, they feel the need to do the same as their friends. As children mature, they want to often do things on their own and find challenges to do,
In the world today, there are so many different types of drugs that are covered in the substance use and abuse chapter. People abused substance due to many reasons such as curiosity, peer pressure, etc. If I had to choose one type of drug to cover in my classroom, I would talk about marijuana because it is a widely used drug in the world today and I think it would be a good idea to inform people about the consequences they could face when abusing the substance. Additionally, I would discuss about the positive effects that marijuana could bring into the medical field because marijuana is not a bad substance when you know how to use it in a correct way. In my opinion, the age group that is the most important to cover with are between middle school
