Scientific knowledge has had a huge impact on the world. Without the brains of historical scientists, modern day would be completely lost. “Science is a way of learning about what is in the natural world, how the natural world works, and how the natural world got to be the way it is.”(The California Museum of Paleontology). Hard work, determination, and dedication allow mankind to grow through the minds of great thinkers.
The most well-known historical scientist is Albert Einstein. He made average folks look at math, space, and time in a whole different perspective. Einstein had many great inventions and discoveries. In 1905, he came out with the Theory of Relativity, which explains that the speed of light is the same no matter how fast the observer travels. (Redd) One of his famous quotes state: “I am thankful for all those who told me no, because of them I was able to do it myself “. This quote shows what a dedicated scientist he was and what he was able to accomplish through his determination.

Einstein introduced his popular equation about mass and energy, E=mc2 , and was able to be a part of the birth of the atomic bomb. In the year of 1939, he sent a letter to Franklin D. Roosevelt. In the letter it told Roosevelt to develop an atomic bomb against the Nazis. This then led to the Manhattan Project, a plan to produce the very first nuclear weapon. (100 leaders in World History) With all of the work he put into understanding mass and energy, he helped America through in a historical event. However, Einstein based most of his discoveries off of Isaac Newton. Isaac Newton is another great example of an inspiring educational leader in scientific history. Newton was a famous 17th-century mathematician and physicist. He used his talents to start scientific revolution. He published a book about the structure of classical mechanics in 1687. After he got his bachelor's degree, he started to study math and astronomy on his own and then published his three laws of motion. These three laws are still used in schools today. The first law states: “An object will stay in the same state unless a force is acted upon the object.” The second law introduces an equation that shows the relationship between acceleration and the force (Force= Mass X Acceleration). Lastly, the third law states that for every action there is either an opposite or equal reaction. Newton said “if he had accomplished anything in his lifetime, it was because of those before him” (Lessons of Leadership from Sir Isaac Newton). Sir Isaac Newton was inspired by many scientists before his time. He used the work of Kepler and Descartes to lead him to finding that white light was composed of colors that were considered primary. With his enormous amount of dedication to math and astronomy, Newton was also responsible for the discovery of the reflecting telescope. He made it easier to understand the universe through his laws of gravity and his telescope. Lastly, Thomas Edison is another excellent example of well-rounded educational leader through history.
Most of Edison’s greatest remembered accomplishments were after he finish school, but were able to happen because of his curiosity through his early childhood and teenage years. His parents made a great effort getting him to school. Since he was so curious about the world, his mind would regularly wander off during class. He was then kicked out of school only three months after starting. His mother, who was once a teacher, then began homeschooling lessons where she taught him reading and writing (Thomas Edison Biography). During his life, in the nineteenth century, he wanted to find an inexpensive way to produce light. Many people would use oil or gas lamps that were expensive and that had a high risk of creating a fire. He dedicated his time to help people have a light source by inventing the light
bulb. Edison had over a thousand unsuccessful tries inventing the light bulb. A young reporter asked, “How did it feel to fail over and over again?” Thomas replied, “I have not failed, I have just found 1,000 ways that won’t work!” Through these words he shows a large amount of determination through his hard work. Overall, hard work, determination, and dedication are all traits that a good educational leader portrays. These scientists showed that they are able to open the gates to so many more discoveries with the ability to not give up during a hard task. Each was inspired by another who then inspired the next generation, which allows mankind to grow through the minds of these great thinkers.
The light bulb changed how we lived now. Thomas Edison invented the light bulb, as he grew up he was learning so much knowledge for chemistry and electronics, and his 40 years of research to get the light bulb to work. Thomas Edison is an inventor of major technology. Threw his years he had studied many books by his parents and been reading many books on chemistry and electricity. The more he grew up he started to pursue his education on chemistry and electronics for many years. The more he tried to invent things he had help making of the light bulb with a group of scientists. Thomas Edison is the one who made the light bulb become possible by pursuing more education.
He worked with George Westinghouse and Nikola Tesla during the late 19th century so bring electric lighting into houses and offices. Incandescent lighting is when light is produced by heat. Around 1870s, there was already lighting called arc lighting. Those were placed in large indoor rooms such as a stage and outdoors in streetlight lamps. Arc light was proven to be impractical in housing or offices. During the 1879, Edison did research in an entire electrical systems which would deal with a generator, a distribution system, and a light bulb. His main focus though was the light bulb. It needed to be strong enough so that the heat wouldn 't cause the light bulb to explode. He worked with carbon filaments which burned inside a glass globe as electricity flowed through the filaments. Galileo has been credited for many astonishing inventions such as the pendulum and the telescope. He still invented throughout his later years. He had a major impact on this world and the economy. It can be said that Thomas Edison was one of the most influential people of the 19th century. Thomas Edison was responsible for many inventions that influenced America to become a more modernized country. His inventions are some of the most important inventions to date. I have chosen two of them who were in many ways just opposites. One is extremely famous and the other is almost unknown except to specialists. The most famous is of course Albert Einstein. He has significantly altered our view of the world with his Theory of Relativity.
Another important individual who drove history was the Italian astronomer and scientist Galileo Galilei. Galileo discovered something so important that it changed the selfish perspective that humans were the center of the universe and led to the growth of human knowledge. Utilizing mathematics and a telescope he had developed, Galileo observed that the planets revolved around the sun and not the Earth. This was a significant discovery because not only did it contradict what the church had taught, it also showed that the universe was not what it seemed. With this truth uncovered, many people began to fascinate over the universe. This triggered people to begin studying space extensively and eventually lead to present day space exploration. Galileo also left a lasting impression upon many great minds, such as Sir Isaac Newton, who used Galileo's research and theories to further his own studies such as the physical laws, and their properties.
Edison invented and improved upon things that changed our world. Some of the things he invented, he did by himself. Some he did with other people. Just about all his inventions are still around today and are commonly used. It was important to Edison that he created and invented things that people could use in their everyday life.
Thomas Edison is widely regarded as one of the most influential inventors and innovators of the Twentieth Century. Edison’s efforts ushered in a new era of technology; a world in which electricity would be harnessed and made to bow before man’s will. Walter Lippman wrote, “It is impossible to measure the importance of Edison by adding up the specific inventions with which his name is associated” (qtd. in Baldwin 409). Edison’s decades long career was a synergistic melding of his success as an inventor and his prowess as a promoter and businessman. He exemplified the ideals of intelligence married to hard work and perseverance. He forever changed the landscape of American invention and the limits of technological change (Baldwin 409).
He also built the Edison Electric Light Company to find a way to use electricity to light the incandescent bulbs. In 1882, Thomas Edison used his incandescent bulb in all the office buildings and houses on the Pearl Street. Many people came to the Pearl Street to see the all of the buildings and houses are light with electricity. This was a great achievement in Thomas Edison’s life. Thomas Edison became a rich and famous person.
Science affects the world in many different ways. With the technologies that have been discovered we can now tell how warm or cold it will be for the next week, we will know when a tornado, hurricane, eruption or any other sorts of natural disasters will occur before they actually happen. This also helps out all communities. My family loves to travel, and if airplanes weren’t invented we wouldn’t be able to go to many places. We also need microwaves, stoves and ovens in order for us to eat supper, and fridges and freezers for us to keep our food in. We also enjoy watching television and movies, and I love talking on the telephone and listening to music. Without science none of these things would be possible.
Science is about understanding and building knowledge about how the natural world works. It explains the inter-relationship with one's life and nature and promotes environmental education and more so environmental habits. Science teaches us as learners’ important skills such as reasoning, problem solving, analyzing, predicting, etc. It builds a foundation by providing a base in case a child does not go to higher level of education. Since science is all around us it is important to teach it so that the children could learn about themselves and their environment.
