Whenever I suggest the novel to the uninitiated, they often say that they are not interested in the sciences. This novel is more like art and poetry, I reply. Einstein's Dreams is Lightman's first work of fiction, although he previously wrote at least six books and for several magazines. Lightman currently teaches physics and writing at M.I.T. From these two seemingly conflicting backgrounds come reviews like "A wonderfully odd, clever, mystical book of meditations on time, poetically spare and delightfully fresh" and "Endlessly fascinating. A beguiling inquiry into the not-at-all theoretical, utterly time-tangled, tragic and sublime nature of human life."

By age nine he was an excellent reader and loved to experiment from the things he read in the science books. His mother was his biggest supporter. From the ages nine through

Of all the scientists to emerge from the nineteenth and twentieth centuries there is one whose name is known by almost all living people. While most of these do not understand this mans work, everyone knows that his impact on the world is astonishing.
Albert Einstein was born on March 14, 1879 in Ulm, Germany. With the odd shape of his head, his mother was concerned that he was possibly mentally handicapped. Even though he was slow in learning how to talk, it did not stop him from chasing his dreams. Being a reclusive child, he loved to listen to music and read. Visitors came and went, but they never failed to comment on the fact that he always had his nose in an advanced level book.
A genius is not somebody who learns quickly or has a high IQ. Geniuses invent new ways of thinking and often improve discoveries. Albert Einstein was a famous scientist and has made a large impact on modern science (Mohun, 2004). Einstein started off as an unknown scientist in a patent office in Bern, but soon became one of the world’s leading scientists after writing several revolutionary scientific papers in 1905, the year which was later known as Annus Mirabilis (Na, 1996). The Nobel Prize has made the award-winning scientists known to the public. In 1921, Einstein received the Physics Nobel Prize for his discovery of the Law of the Photoelectric Effect. A few years ago, Time magazine published a special issue entitled "The Century's Greatest Minds." It was the fourth in a Time series on the 100 most influential people of the century, this particular issue focusing on "Scientists and Thinkers." On the cover, Albert Einstein is pictured on a psychiatrist's couch, hands crossed over his chest, a depressed look cloaking his face. Dr. Sigmund Freud, seated in a chair near the couch, pen and pad in hand, is leaning in toward Einstein, excitedly waiting to perform some bit of psychoanalysis on the saddened scientist. A framed picture of Jonas Salk rests on the side table; a portrait of John Maynard Keynes hangs from a nail in the wall. In the background, resting atop a bookshelf, is a stone bust of Rachel Carson, author of Silent Spring. She finds herself in quite excellent company not only on the cover, but in the interior of the magazine as well.
