Small Town Southern Man Being a “Small Town Southern Man” is what Alan Jackson has always known and is what he repeatedly sings about. He has also sung patriotic music such as Where Were You When the World Stopped Turning? It is a recollection of the emotions felt by Americans on that shocking day of September 11, 2001. Encyclopedia.com declared that it was “Perhaps Jackson’s biggest and poignant hit…” (“Jackson, Alan). Before Jackson began writing songs, he grew up in Newnan, Georgia. He lived in a small house with his four sisters, grandparents, and parents. Eventually he moved to Nashville, Tennessee to pursue his music career after marrying his wife, Denise, out of high school. After many rejections, Jackson found success in signing with Arista Records. Since then, Jackson has recorded plenty of songs that became instant classics. The contributions to country music demonstrated by the career of Alan Jackson, proves beyond a doubt that Country Music Hall of Fame should induct this artist. He has shown that he is worthy of this honor through his awards, talents, and inspiration to others. Already …show more content…
Whether it was through his performance or his modest poise. After receiving a CMA, he said, “It ain’t like the first one, but it still, it’s just overwhelming to me anyway, to think about that many” (“Country Music Association Memories”). He also inspired Dustin Lynch, who told Decatur Daily “’For me, those guys {Garth Brooks and Alan Jackson} and their songs will be icons forever… Those two guys are in the history books’” (Godbey, Catherine). Not only did he inspire Lynch, but Carrie Underwood who also agrees. “’This artist {Jackson} has inspired so many of us’ she noted, ‘As a matter of fact, his was the very first concert I ever attended, and it had a huge impact’” (Shelburne, Craig). This helps him to be one of the most inspirational artists in country music
The night of May 16, 1983, almost 50 million people watched one of the most spectacular performance on television (Scott 1). Jackson won 40 Billboard music awards (Scott 1). His lyrics are powerful he also talks about social causes, human race, and relationships. He inspired millions of people with the music he wrote. Since I was a little girl I listened to his music couple of my favorite songs are “Bad”, “Dirty Diana”, Make that Change”, “You are not alone”, “Billie Jean” “Smooth Criminal”. These songs where inspiring to me growing up to this day I listen to him. My siblings and me loved his movie called “The Moonwalker,” It’s about his music career when he was five years old till he went solo as an artist at the age of thirteen. I would watch his movie repeatedly. My sisters and me would try to follow his dance moves but we were always unsuccessful it was a great memory growing up. I loved the part when he turns himself into a bunny as a little girl I thought that was awesome. I would think I had magic And, I remember telling my mom “I wanted to be like Michael Jackson because he has powers” my mother would just laugh. One of his quotes from his lyrics that is powerful to me is “If you want to make the world a better place, take a look at yourself, then make that change,” this
Kingsbury, Paul. The Grand Ole Opry History of Country Music: 70 Years of the Songs,
The concept of a two-sport or multi-sport athlete enormously filters the list of great athletes throughout history and, if used as a measuring rod, leaves us with the best of all time: Bo Jackson. “Bo Jackson is not known in Spain, despite starring in Bo Knows Nike brand campaign that remains today, the most successful of the multinational” (Williams). “In these famous ads, which have Jackson first playing football and baseball, two sports that are professional, he then tries his luck at basketball with Michael Jordan, tennis with John McEnroe, ice hockey with Wayne Gretzky and track and field with Sea and Decker” (Williams). The first ad was so successful that Nike decided to produce more ads featuring Bo Jackson as the “all-star athlete”. These new ads featured him playing and participating in cycling, football with Welshman Ian Rush, who are professional athletes, cricket, surfing, weightlifting, and horse riding. Nike used Bo Jackson’s athletic abilities to form a gold mine “The first athlete in history to be selected as an All Star in two different sports” (Askew). Bo Jackson’s work as America’s greatest athlete of all time shows him to be a representative of American culture because he changed both the American past times of baseball and football, he helps Alabamians with fundraisers that benefit tornado victims, he represents American strength along with persistence, and he set a new height to sports that still haven’t been achieved today by any other athlete. According to Martin:

You Think you Know Bo, but you don't Know. Bo? Bo knows what it is like to be called one of the greatest athletes of all time. Vincent “Bo” Jackson had to overcome a lot as a child, he was the eighth of ten children that his mom took care of. His family was very poor, and not knowing his father very well did not help the cause.
When Bo hit the ground his hip popped out of socket and as he rolled over he managed to pop it back in. The doctor that he told this too told him that it was not possible, but it turns out that it was. Bo’s injury has been pinned as one of the worst sports injuries ever. Dislocating a bone from its socket is one of the worse things that you can do before breaking a bone, but putting it back into its socket by yourself is going to be immensely painful. “When I stood and took a step, the pain was like someone stabbed a ice pick into my pelvis.” was what Bo said about the pain he felt after the hip went back into socket and he tried to walk. Jackson had to be helped off the field. It was the last time he ever played professional Football ever.
For many Americans, country isn’t just a type of music. It’s a lifestyle. From sippin’ sweet tea on the porch, drinking beer at a tailgate or driving a pick up down the backroads, country music has made its way into the hearts and minds of many Americans. It is one of the only truly home grown American art forms. Its relatability and wide appeal has made country music one of the most commercially successful and popular genres in the United States. Using the work of scholars Tichi, Pecknold, and Ellison, I will show how country music grew from its rural southern roots into an integral part of American culture.
The Age of Jackson, written by Arthur M. Schlesinger, focuses on the long lasting effects of Andrew Jackson on democracy and American politics. The novel starts off with Jackson’s life story, a lowerclass boy from the west, raised by a single mother. After finding financial success on his own, he became well known for his military exploits, being a crucial factor in the Battle of New Orleans, and the acquisition of Florida from the Spanish. After the brief account of Jackson’s life, the author moves on to his administration, and stays with that topic for most of the book.
He had exposure to several different genres growing up in his St. Louis, MO hometown. He heard country from the whites, rhythm & blues (R&B) from mostly blacks, even Latin music. His family environment set him up well for future success while growing up in a middle class home in the middle of the Great Depression of the 1930s. His parents sun...
Country Music is everywhere. It may come blaring from a neighbor’s house, blasting the radio from a car or truck, or even playing quietly in a restaurant; but why exactly is Country Music so popular for people to listen to? When it comes to Country Music, the lyrics comes straight from the artist`s hearts where people can relate to them; the rhythm and beat are unique to the specific song, and the artist knows exactly how to tell a perfect story in the song.
Hiram “Hank” Williams was an inspiration to millions of people around the world. He wrote several songs that many people love and know today. He introduced a new generation of country music. First, he became the first artist to have obtained a total of eight Grammys at one night during the twenty-sixth Annual Grammy Awards, (Grammys). The thing that is remarkable about this is it very hard just receive one Grammy, but to receive eight you need to be someone very special. Not only did he receive eight Grammys on one night he was also, one out of fifteen individuals to have received the, "prestigious Grammy Legend Award.", (Grammys). Since there was only a total of fifteen awards overall that means only fifteen of the most special or best singers can have received that award, and basically that can be used to conclude that Jackson was one of the most
I was there when he crafted note by note, the songs that would become some of the most famous in the country. I was there in 1957, when Buddy Holly’s single, “Peggy Sue” made it on the top 10 charts. I was also there that fatal day, February 3rd, 1959, “the day the music died.” That is a day I will never forget. One second we were flying through the air, the next thing I knew, Buddy Holly was dead and the country would never be the same. Buddy’s death was even written about in a song by Don Mclean, called “American Pie.”
After reading Hegel's aesthetics of art, I have been able to understand why a picture or song looks/sounds great. I have gained knowledge of the fundamentals of art. I have used this newly found knowledge of art and applied it to songs that I enjoy and have meaning to. I will be breaking down a classic country song and finding out why it has been able to still be popular after many years. The song is “He Stopped Loving Her Today” by the late George Jones.
Taylor Swift deserves to be inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame for her outstanding awards and achievements she has received. One of the criteria to be inducted in the the Country Music Hall of Fame is that the person has to have a scope of activity.
