Al Gore's Accomplishments

Al Gore is a very well know man across the world in many developed countries. His work on climate change and his political career is what got him to where he is now. He was born in Washington, D.C. on March, 31 1948. He attended Harvard University, where he got his degree in government with high honors. He was also in Vanderbilt Law School many years later, after his time being a military journalist. He dropped out of this school to become a politician serving in the house for four terms and many years in the senate. This all leads up to him running for president in 1988 and losing the primary. In 1992 Bill Clinton chose him as his Vice president for his election as president, they won their two terms and Gore ran in the 2000 election and

lost. This paper will discuss his political career and beliefs, environmental achievements, and his actions to spread awareness one global warming.

Let’s get some more information on his time in politics from the beginning to his more recent years.

It all started with his time in the House of Representatives. He served in the house for eight years. He was actually the first person to appear on C-Span when the network launched. His time in the Senate also lasted from 1984 to 1992, during this time he was a big supporter of the High Performance Computer and Communication Act of 1991. After his time in the the Senate, he tried to run for president but failed at first. In 1992 things changed though, when Bill Clinton wanted him to become his running mate. They were elected for two terms until the year of 2000. During his time as Vice President, he tried to decrease the amount of bureaucracy in the government system. After these two terms of being Vice President, he tried to run in the election of 2000. It was Al Gore VS George Bush, it was one of the most controversial elections in recent history. I won't go into it in much detail during this paper on the

occasion.

He made the public aware of many of the environmental issues which are now common knowledge. His movie was called “An Inconvenient Truth” and it was a documentary on the effects of what we were doing worldwide to the environment. He also wrote a few books, but many of them were unrelated to the issue of climate change. He did write a book heavily criticizing the Bush administration on how they planned to run the government overall. This included how they planned to handle issues with climate change. Gore also suggested and tried to get many things to lower carbon emissions or even incentive to lower them. Things like carbon taxes on emissions from companies and businesses. Giving them an incentive to either cut emissions of cut their profit. He also stated that countries should be quick and stern with their actions on climate change.

His movie had way too many effects just to put in a few sentences. It caused people within 10 miles of a theater playing his movie to buy more carbon offsets. Carbon offsets are people paying companies to be greener. It also made people temporarily buy greener products such as solar panels. Many researchers were intrigued by the effects of the movie on the general public. People don’t normally buy things to benefit their community so often in the way this movie caused. The effects were also more powerful in areas with more conservative residents. The movie brought Gore back in the light temporarily causing him to get more exposure to help with his Nobel prize the year later.

President Bill Clinton's election was an achievement especially he was the first democratic president to serve two terms since Franklin D. Roosevelt to serve to terms. His and Gore’s politics were meant to better the nation in many different ways. He increased trade with China, signed in the NAFTA, and was the first president to see budget surpluses since the 1960s. He also wanted to do something very ambiguous for his year which was universal health care. Al Gore supported many issues involving involving foreign policy like trade agreements especially involving China and NAFTA. The Vice President of the United States has many duties that they have to uphold. They are the next in the line of succession if the president becomes unable to serve or do their duties. Also if there is somehow a vote in congress that is tied they have the vote to decide.

After Al Gore’s career as Vice President he became a successful public speaker.

He has appeared in many places to give people good information to help them understand environmental issues. He has talked everywhere from college graduations to important political meetings. Endorsing candidates is a thing he is not against, which is a thing he did during Obama's second term. Many people are unaware of the trouble that not being eco-friendly can cause to the environment that we live in. When he goes around and conveniences people that the environment needs to be helped. Going back to his movie studies show that the actual statistics that it affected people to be more environmentally friendly. I am referring to little things like how it effected generally conservative areas more than liberal areas. This intrigued economist because they people rarely spend their own money showing the outstanding things one movie could do. It showed that people when shown a cause will work independently or with each other to achieve their goal be it long or short

term.

Al Gore is still Al Gore, be it politician, environmentalist, or known activist. He will be forever known in history for what he has done in politics and for the environment. A man with the values and resolve to have a political career greater than many while also caring for the environment as much as he does.
