1. INTRODUCTION
Digital Airport Surveillance Radar (ASR – 11) is digital terminal air traffic control surveillance radar, consisting of Primary Surveillance Radar (PSR) and Monopulse Secondary Surveillance Radar (MSSR), is created by Raytheon Corporation to replace the older versions of ASR such as ASR – 07 and ASR – 08.
This is to better ensure the safety and efficiency of air traffic control system, and reduce operational costs such as maintenance costs. ASR – 11 is used for detecting weather conditions, up to 6 layers of intensity for harsh weather and aircraft positioning near the commercial and military aerodromes. Through the six-level national weather service calibrated weather capability, both the pilots and controllers’ situational awareness are improved.
ASR – 11 is highly modular, and it is easy to re – configure. Through the use of superfluous subsystems with built – in test equipment, it is intended for automatic operations. In addition, it is completely controllable and is able to monitor from various whereabouts.

In 1958, an agreement called the North American Air Defence was signed. This agreement between Canada and the United States ensured that the two nations would defend and fight for each other if under attack. The NORAD headquarters, located in Colorado, was initially created in 1948, but it was not until 1951, when it was successfully re-established. The headquarters would not only protect the US, but also protected Canada by using the Distant Early Warning system. The “DEW line” consisted of stations with radar antennae in the Northwest Territories, which would detect aircraft, missiles and unidentified objects from about 4800 kilometres away. Then, the headquarters would be notified, and will respond appropriately, with either defensive weapons, or offensive.

The evolution of airport security would evolve over time just as airline safety. There would be a series of unfortunate events that would affect the way all airports operated. Prior to these events passengers would simply show up with their luggage and ticket and get on the plane, no screening or baggage checks were conducted. The FAA and the Federal Government had taken many steps by passing numerous pieces of legislation to address aircraft safety to reduce the number of accidents; however aircraft security was never addressed in all previously passed legislation. As the number of air travelers increased year by year, so did the potential for crimes against the airlines. These crimes included aircraft bombing and hijackings.
The purpose of this report is to identify whether Automatic Dependence Surveillance Broadcast (ADS-B) or Traffic Alert and Collision Avoidance System (TCAS II) should be placed in all aircraft if the FAA decides that there is a need for some collision avoidance technology to be required for all aircraft. TCAS is currently required on all commercial passenger aircraft over 30 seats and ADS-B is currently being tested.
“One would think that so important a contribution to the world’s technology would be chronicled with great care at every step…This, unfortunately, is not the case, and for reasons quite understandable” (Page 14). Sometimes history can be hard to distinguish from truth and legend, the history of radar is no exception. Many contributions have been made to the development of radar over the years. For many years prior and during the Second World War, radar was considered a top-secret military tool. Once it was made public, people used the existing information about radar to come up with their own variations for different applications. As a result, the true origin of radar has become blurred within conflicting claims.
The heart begins racing the moment the car pulls into the airport parking lot. The smell of jet fuel, automobile exhaust, and hot tarmac combine to assault the senses with images of exotic escapes and the kind of freedom that can only come from airports. The Whirlwind used a cathode ray tube and a light gun to provide interactively. The Whirlwind was linked to a series of radars and could identify unfriendly aircraft and direct interceptor fighters to their projected locations. It was to be the prototype for a network of computers and radar sites (SAGE) acting as an important element of U.S. air defense for a quarter-century after 1958. In 1951, the first commercially-available computer was delivered to the Bureau of the Census by the Eckert Mauchly Computer Corporation.
