“It’s a good thing Florida has the death penalty, because if it didn’t, I would kill again,” Aileen Wuornos. A serial killer is someone who does three or more killings in a short period of time. However, not all serial killers are the same. There are many differences between a male and female serial killer. For example, a female serial killer tends to commit more premeditated murders because they either know their victims or they know their routines. Many women serial killers have a history of being sexually abused as they were growing up, while the men have been physically abused. She had a low self-esteem, felt abandoned, sexually abused by those that were to care for her. As a child she was sexually promiscuous and having sex with other children to obtain cigarettes, drugs, and food, which is how she came to learn that she could make money in prostitution. When she was 14 she was forced to give up a baby to adoption. She never got to meet the little boy that was born on March 23, 1971 who was born at a home for unwed mothers, (“The Child of A Serial Killer: Aileen Wournos’s Son,” 2017) another issue of abandonment. Regarding the self-control theory, it can be defined as someone who has the ability to commit or not to commit crimes. Aileen Wournos had control, but didn’t care to control her behaviors, or she controlled herself into not committing more. Aileen Wournos’s genes could also play a part in her behaviors, (“Serial Killer Aileen Wournos: Applying Sociology Theories to Crime Behavior,” 2015), and it is further stated that children who have violent parents are more likely than not to become violent themselves. With her father behind bars, and never knowing him, his genes were passed down to his children. He was not only an alcoholic, but also had a horrible temper.
