Imagine looking at the day before knowing that the torture and harsh treatment hadn’t arrived yet. During the Age of Exploration, the Europeans found the Natives. Ships of courageous people were often out looking for new lands and some ships found the exquisite land of the Native Americans, the New World. Today, it is known as North America. These Native Americans were mistreated because the Europeans wanted the land. In this period of time, the Natives were affected as they were belittled by others. They clearly had their life looking rough and many were affected during this time. Native Americans suffered from disease, harsh treatment, and conquest. The Natives wouldn’t give up their culture for other people, but that came with consequences. It could have been things such as slavery, or getting beaten. These poor Native Americans have been punished by these random people for standing up for themselves. Another reason this could have drastically changed the Natives is because, “By the time Europeans arrived in the 1500s, thousands of Native American groups lived in North America,” (HMH). This means not just few were killed by being treated unfairly, but many were. Native Americans were not given fair treatment like any other person. Warfare was also a factor contributing to the drop. One group, the Aztecs, were very involved in this. For them, “War was a key factor in the Aztecs’ rise to power. The fierce Aztec warriors conquered many towns,” (HMH). The Aztecs were very brave. However, during the Spanish conquest, things took a turn. An Aztec poem says, “...our heritage is a net made of holes,” (Doc 3). This is saying their warrior training ideas were no help.
