During the Age of the exploration, Natives were constantly dying and being in slavery. The Age of the Exploration is a time period have Europeans had natives as slaves, and there was Encomiendas where it's a farm with slaves working. There were overall more negative effects than positive effects. One of the negative effects are Natives were slaves. For example, Document A it says, " Spaniards are cutting off hands of Natives for not meeting their gold quota." This shows since the slaves weren't good enough they had to cut off their hands. Another example was in Document D it says, " But they seemed on the whole to me to be very poor people." This shows the Europeans chose the natives because they were poor. Slaves shouldn't even become an idea.
To many of the English colonists, any land that was granted to them in a charter by the English Crown was theirs’, with no consideration for the natives that had already owned the land. This belittlement of Indians caused great problems for the English later on, for the natives did not care about what the Crown granted the colonists for it was not theirs’ to grant in the first place. The theory of European superiority over the Native Americans caused for any differences in the way the cultures interacted, as well as amazing social unrest between the two cultures.
The timing of the events, shown through the documents helps uncover some of the where and whys about why the treatment of the Native Americans shaped America’s beginnings. The main timing and reason was colonization. As the European settlers began to colonize the Americas, they saw that they could use the Natives and treat them however they wanted because it was free or low-costly labor. The ill treatment of these people caused many to rebel and revolt against the colonists, or in many circumstances, it caused the Native populations to decline dramatically in numbers. This decimation of the Native American populations left small amounts of people to care for the land, shaping the United States’ environment for future generations. This is part of the reason why many Natives felt resentment to the colonists both in the present time and the future. The order that many of the events happened also affected the issues that first caused the colonization of the Americas.
The European influences to the Native Americans were Europeans carried the new diseases to the Indians. “Europeans were used to these diseases, but Indian people had no resistance to them. Sometimes the illnesses spread through direct contact with colonists. Other times, they were transmitted as Indians traded with one another. The result of this contact with European germs was horrible. Sometimes whole villages perished in a short time” (Kincheloe). Slave trade was another influence to American Indians. Europeans soon realized that they could provide commercial goods such as tools and weapons to some American Indian tribes that would bring them other Indians captured in tribal wars, and these captured Indians were bought and sold as slaves. Therefore, “slavery led to warfare among tribes and too much hardship. Many tribes had to move to escape the slave trade, which destroyed some tribes completely. In time, the practice of enslaving Native peoples ended. However, it had greatly affected American Indians of the South and the Southwest” (Kinchloe). Lastly, Europeans change Native America and African’ roots. Native Americans
Then came the waves of Europeans, and as we all know, things changed. Not only were the lives of the Amerindians drastically changed, but also the ecology of the Americas was completely and permanently altered. Although the Europeans helped in these changes to the ecosystem, their part was minor when compared to the true criminals: the European animals. It was the European animals that were introduced into the New World that had the most destructive effects on their new environment and forever altered the ecology of the Americas.
In this essay you will read about certain events that took place in the Age of Exploration like why a majority of the Native Americans died , what that caused, and why many Native tribes converted to a different religion.
Slavery, society, and religion were key factors for democratic ideals in the time of the reform movements. Slavery was still common in the time of 1825-1850. Society was ruined due to drunks and not having a established prison. Religion wanted to make people better and make sinners good. Therefore it all lead to democratic ideals and to make more of a perfect society.
...at disease killed in the tribes, but in reality the diseases helped control the Native American population and enabled better and freer lives for the Natives that lived on. All animals brought across the Atlantic greatly helped the economies and daily lives of the people of the New World.
Imperialism had some positive effects regardless of how strict and unfair it was. Some positive effects can be seen in documents 2 and 7, which talks about what the mother nation gave to their colonized nations. These oppressors built them roads, canals, railways, and gave them education. They also introduced to them telegraphs, newspapers, and overall made them economized. Another positive effect can be read on documents 1 and 5. These documents show how both the oppressors and oppressed benefit from getting new resources such as raw m...
The Gilded age was considered one of the most prosperous eras of American history. Many public spaces, such as universities and libraries, were built. This, however came at the expense of the American population, many of them living in poverty and despair. Due to the economic policies the big businesses followed, the political control these big businesses had, and the harsh response by the people, big businesses were detrimental to the American society as a whole.
The first document shows the effect of when the Europeans exchanged the disease smallpox during relations with the Native Americans which started one of the largest disputed genocides in history. The second document shows how the Europeans would force the Natives to convert to their religion and practices but also the consequences when they did not do so. The third document notes the kind of thought that was put into categorizing each intermarriage of race and how it may shows the segregation of them. The last document is a spiritual of how Africans taken into slavery reacted and felt, them stating that they feel like a motherless child because they were often taken at a younger age. The social effects of the Columbian Exchange are the most important contrast to the actions of the Europeans because they are the only account that were not by the Europeans themselves so they see the event in a true light compared to the biased opinion. The social effects caused the destruction of ethnic culture by conversion or genocide especially for the Native
Contact between Native Americans and Europeans brought changes to Native American societies. One change was that the Native American population decreased quickly due to disease and warfare. Native Americans weren’t immune to European diseases like small pox and the flu. Another change was that Native Americans were forced into slavery through the encomienda system. The encomienda system was created by the Spanish to control and regulate Native American labor and behavior while colonizing the Americas.
When the Europeans migrated to the colonies, they were racially different from other groups. When the Europeans arrived in North America, many saw them as a power hungry group and that they were always wanting more even though they were rich and had vast technological advancements such as traveling on immense ships and use of guns. Since the Europeans strived for power and wealth, they tried to look for a source of cheap, reliable, and controllable labor (Lecture Notes).... ... middle of paper ...
During the European expedition in America, they founded colonies in North America that attracted thousands of settlers. The Europeans tried to get rid of the Native Americans in order to get what they wanted, which was economic wealth, landowning, slave trade, property ownership, and tobacco. M. Zylstra writes about “Colonization of History”, hybridization of history, and what the colonization of the natives by the Europeans lead to. Zylstra states.
When the Europeans Colonization America it changed not only the lives of the Native American people but their cultures as well. Looking at the history of the population of American Indigenous peoples, we can see a catastrophic drop off when the Europeans arrive. When the Europeans came, they forced the natives to pack up their camps and move into other tribes' territories or into infertile grounds, and introduced major disease like smallpox, influenza, measles, and even some minor disease like the common cold and chicken pox’s, which killed more than half of the native population. The natives had no immunity’s to the new European diseases, so the outbreak was almost 100% effective. This is not to say that all of the Europeans influence was negative the Europeans did introduce modern medicines, new animals, exotic plants and new technology to the Native Americans.
In Europe during the Middle ages - from 476 to 1100 - there were many things happening at once. There was the plague, holy wars, and poverty. They were a time of ________
