“There’s something in our world that makes men lose their heads- they couldn’t be fair if they tried. In our courts, when it’s a white man’s word against a black man’s word, the white always wins. They’re ugly, but these are the facts of life” (Lee 252). The 1930’s were a tough time for the American people and even tougher for the African Americans. African Americans were subject to profound neglect even before the Great Depression so when time came for recovery, respect, and fair trial of court the African Americans were consigned to oblivion. Evidence-Racism was still at a high this was due to the fact that only generations earlier slavery had been abolished. Also slogans posted such as "No Jobs for Niggers Until Every White Man Has a Job" and "Niggers, back to the cotton fields—city jobs are for white folks" were very common. Blacks never had the chance to vow for their own. “During the Jim Crow era, blacks were legally barred from voter rolls in several southern states and were therefore barred from serving on juries.”Since they could not get on juries racism took over and whites almost always sided fellow whites Taking the Scottsboro Boys situation into consideration is a prime exemplification of the cases that happened through the late 1800s to the mid 1900s. The Scottsboro boys were 9 African American adolescents that happened to be riding on a train with two white women saying they were gang raped by the boys it turned out to be completely fabricated. However with no evidence present the racist all white juries sentenced 8-9 of the boys to the death
