Imperialism is when a mother nation takes over another nation and become its colony for political, social, and economical reasons. Imperialism is a progressive force for both the oppressors (mother country) and the oppressed (colony), majorly occurring during the late 19th and early 20th century. It had more negative effects than positive effects due to its domination to other nations.
To begin with, one can observe that the British colonizers did indeed improve Indian civilization by developing means of communication and transport. They built a great number of bridges, over 40,000 miles of railway and paving an astounding 70,000 miles of road (Doc. 4). Disadvantages of Black Americans in 1950's Black Americans faced many disadvantages during the 1950's. In short they were discriminated; from public services, to cafés and restaurants. After the American Civil War in 1865, black people in the American south were no longer slaves. But they had never gained equality with whites. Blacks had remained second classed citizens throughout their movement to America, with the worst paid unskilled jobs in farms and factories.
Economic concerns of the British caused the colonization of British North America. Such economic concerns included the opportunity to acquire gold, silver, a North American waterway that would lead directly to China and the Indies, and the prospect of countering Spain's dominance in North America (Boorstin et al. 34). In addition to these economic reasons for colonization, the English were also seeking to obtain the essential "raw materials" in America that they had been previously buying from other European countries for exorbitant amounts of money and gold (Boorstin et al. 34). Great Britain also sought to solve other economic problems through American colonization. For example, England needed to replenish some of its diminishing materials and assets, generate another "market" to export its cargo and merchandise, maintain its powerful navy and "merchant marine" through business with new American colonies, and to provide a new place for the unemployed to settle rather than escalating populace/crime and the economic burden in its own cities (Boorstin et al. 34).
The aspect of African-American Studies is key to the lives of African-Americans and those involved with the welfare of the race. African-American Studies is the systematic and critical study of the multidimensional aspects of Black thought and practice in their current and historical unfolding (Karenga, 21). African-American Studies exposes students to the experiences of African-American people and others of African descent. It allows the promotion and sharing of the African-American culture. However, the concept of African-American Studies, like many other studies that focus on a specific group, gender, and/or creed, poses problems. Therefore, African-American Studies must overcome the obstacles in order to improve the state of being for African-Americans.

In chapter one, the English wanted to go to the Americas not only for religious freedom, but to practice the idea of merchantism. During the time of English’s exploration of the Americas, the country was one of the last European countries to explore the “New World. Such items the colonists began to trade were furs, animal skins, meat, and crops such as: wheat, barely, and oats. In contrast, the colonists came to North America to have religious and economic opportunities, and freedom. What the colonists do not seem to realize is that England was using the colonist to gain power over the “New World” and to gain profit from foreign trade.
Mercantilism is an economic policy and system that was implemented by many different European colonies during the 16th-18th centuries in order to closely regulate trade in the American colonies. The goal of this was to maximize more domestic exports and halt foreign imports. In order words they wanted to monopolize domestic markets in order to benefit the mother country. This helped to promote a dominant relationship over the colonies, forcing the colonies to provide the mother country with raw materials which would be shipped to the home country and made into manufactured goods before being returned to the colonies to be bought and sold. (Foner, Give Me Liberty, p. 88).

The African American people of South Carolina, Georgia and Oklahoma are descendants of the enslaved Africans from the coast of West Africa, Sierra Leone. There are many documented similarities between the two people and the cultures. The nation of Sierra Leone is known for making rice on the swamp coast, and creating intricate basket weaving. The national language of the people is English, but with over 100 different ethnic groups there has to be a way that the people communicate among each other. As Great Britain began forming a union with England and Scotland they soon became the leader in building a unified economy, was this unified economy good or bad for the colonists? As the English began constructing trade laws a mercantile for importing and exporting was developed. This system was the true definition of a monopoly. These laws, that were put in place, caused economic warfare with France. For the colonist these terms were extremely restrictive and limited as they could only ship their products on British or American ships and they could only buy most of their goods from Britain. My thought is the way to make money is to export more goods than you are importing. This doesn’t seem to be too much of a positive thing for the colonists.
