Enter the world of advertisements. Well, actually it is the world we live in. We encounter ads at every turn throughout our day. There was that billboard ad you saw along the highway, those radio ads that ruined your jam this morning, and those TV ads interrupting your favorite show. But how many of those ads did you find appealing? Were any of them even memorable? We have come to a point where advertisements are no longer effective. People have lost interest in ads and now find them to be more of a nuisance than anything. The world of advertising is in need of some changes. Action must be taken to recapture the attention of the masses.
Why don’t we just do away with ads completely? No more ads interrupting your soap opera to tell you to buy

For instance, if McDonalds and Burger King didn’t advertise, consumers would not know what burger they might prefer. Without the ads, consumers are blind to what products are available. Many may even choose not to buy a burger from anyone. This will, of course, result in lower profits, eventual shutdown, and fewer jobs. If no one knows a product is for sale, then no one will try to buy it. A third function of ads is to promote competition between companies. Through advertising companies can try convincing consumers that their product or service is better than someone else 's. Using ads companies communicate what they are selling and why it is the best. This only works if people are willing to see ads, …show more content…
In her article, Cutting Through Advertising Clutter, Caitlin Johnson says “[Jay] Walker-Smith says we 've gone from being exposed to about 500 ads a day back in the 1970 's to as many as 5,000 a day today.” Consumers can’t handle this much advertising. “‘We have to screen it out because we simply can 't absorb that much information. We can 't process that much data,’ he said, ‘and so no surprise, consumers are reacting negatively to the kind of marketing blitz; the kind of super saturation of advertising that they 're exposed to on a daily basis’”(Johnson). For the most part, people can and do tune out many of these ads, if they’re not thrown in their
For most companies, advertising can be a costly affair. On the one hand, customers are getting more information about new products, goods and services. While, on the other hand, it has to be effective, noticeable and remembered long enough to make potential customers into actual ones.
Advertisements are one of many things that Americans cannot get away from. Every American sees an average of 3,000 advertisements a day; whether it’s on the television, radio, while surfing the internet, or while driving around town. Advertisements try to get consumers to buy their products by getting their attention. Most advertisements don’t have anything to do with the product itself. Every company has a different way of getting the public’s attention, but every advertisement has the same goal - to sell the product. Every advertisement tries to appeal to the audience by using ethos, pathos, and logos, while also focusing on who their audience is and the purpose of the ad. An example of this is a Charmin commercial where there is a bear who gets excited when he gets to use the toilet paper because it is so soft.
Whether recognized or not, advertisements play a significant role on the way in which consumers make choices. Though society as a whole may not recognize the impact of advertising, commercials and good billboards are still noticed and enjoyed. Even colors are used a way in which to catch the eye of the consumer.
Advertisements are part of my everyday life I see them everywhere throughout my day. They are in magazines, television, billboards, and outside of businesses. Some of my favorite advertisements are during the super bowl. Hayakawa says: “The best advertising, however, is thought about, laughed over, and acted upon by multitudes” (p. 135). The super bowls commercial are usually funny, and they make me laugh, which also makes me think about them. I feel that is the general purpose of an advertisement is to get people's attention while making impressions that people can remember.
... to television and radio advertising. I actually feel advertising bombards the consumer with unnecessary information that was in no way relevant to their decision making. This does not mean that companies are monopolizing the market but it does mean that companies are filling consumer heads with products and ideas that they do not need or already have and know a substantial about. For example why do I need to watch fifty commercials about an I-phone when I already have one and know all of its features and costs? Why would I need to watch a commercial about cholesterol medicine when I am going to take whatever is prescribed by my doctor? And lastly why would so many people switch over to watching Netflix or Tivo if advertisements were something that were required for full knowledge and costs? There are other, less deceptive, places we can find this information.
Communication is an essential and vital aspects of a person’s life, and something they will encounter on a regular basis. It comes in many different forms, and quite possibly the broadest and most powerful form is advertisements. Human beings are types of individuals that are hard to fully grasp their attention to make them focus on something, but advertisements have the extraordinary ability to do that. Advertisements are a huge part of our everyday lives. We see different types of ads everywhere we look; while watching television, listening to the radio, riding on the bus and even walking around your school campus. It seems like the whole world is being flooded by advertisements.
The main purpose of advertising is to sell a product or service to the consumer market. Advertising uses many different types of appeal and a number of media to achieve a variety of goals. To sum up, advertising is one of the important ways to help the marketers as well as consumers. It is good for the companies as they can attract more consumers and as a result increase the profit of the company. It also has many benefits for the consumers as they can raise their knowledge and awareness and accordingly improve their lifestyle. Conversely, it may have negative effects on consumer behavior by creating unhealthy behavior such as alcohol consumption and lowering self-confidence through beauty advertisements. According to what has been written above, obviously, advertisements may have both positive and negative effects on consumer behavior.
Nowadays, advertisements are everywhere embedded in our daily life. They are powerful resources that inform people the latest news about a particular product or brand in many different ways. Most of the people are being able to get more information and detail of a product from media, radio stations, newspapers and internet. Even though advertising is a big informative source, it also can be considered as a marketing tool to control the mind and desires of the consumers to manipulate and persuade them to buy things they do not need.
Advertisements are pieces of art or literary work that are meant to make the viewer or reader associate to the activity or product represented on the advertisement. According to Kurtz and Dave (2010), in so doing, they aim at either increasing the demand of the product, to inform the consumer of the existence, or to differentiate that product from other existing one in the market. Therefore, the advertiser’s aim should at all times try as much as possible to stay relevant and to the point.
The primary role of advertising is to inform potential customers of the products and services in the market and convince them to make a purchase. Through advertisements customers are informed of new products, their role, their benefit and the prices at which they are being made available to the customer. It is a technique used to influence people's minds and encourage more sales.
However, there are also hidden purposes behind those advertisements. One of them are to maintain the image of the company that produces the advertisement as well as barring new competitions to take over the monopoly of the company. Besides that, advertisement is also responsible to inform the customers about the changes in the product or service that is being advertised while at the same time to ensure that the customer would still buy the product or service despite the changes that are being made.
Nowadays, advertising is a very big business. Very often is the major means of competing among firms. Furthermore, supporters of advertising claim that it brings specific benefits for consumers.
Advertising has been defined as the most powerful, persuasive, and manipulative tool that firms have to control consumers all over the world. It is a form of communication that typically attempts to persuade potential customers to purchase or to consume more of a particular brand of product or service.
