No one likes being alone all the time, we all need company and we all like meeting people and learning new things. These are some of the best ways we can enjoy life and all that it throws at us. What better way to meet people than going abroad to study? I tell you, there is no better way. Why do I say that you might ask? Well it’s simple, I did when I was 18 and it has worked out really well. However, there is a catch : you have got to know the language of the country you are going to, so here is the main reason why people should study and learn languages : so they can expand their horizon and acquire more and more knowledge of the world we live in. As we know, the world is no longer the best, safest or kindest place to live in, but it is up to us to make it paradise again. To achieve that, we all need to be friends, and communicate with each other. As the late John Lennon sang about in “Imagine” or the late Freddie Mercury in “The Miracle” the time will come when the world would live as one and we could all be friends.
The key to world peace is friendship, I have no doubt about that; and friendship can be achieved by simply saying “Hi” or “How do you do?” It is as simple as that and it can be done just by learning to speak a language.

Multilingual speakers have an advantage in global affairs that involve countries that speak different languages. Speaking multiple languages makes it easier to communicate with people when involved in foreign affairs. Those who speak multiple languages are also more aware of other cultures in society. Monolingual speakers are not as exposed to other cultures and have difficulty understanding or even recognizing them. Furthermore, being multilingual increases your
Bhattacharjee has indicated “Speaking two languages rather than just one has obvious practical benefits in an increasingly globalized world” (Bhattacharjee, par. 1). I extremely agree with the last sentence—being bilinguals and have more than one language brings up a lot of advantage in a person life. The person who has more than language has confidence and can deal with people more than monolinguals which they will be shy to say something wrong. From my experience, I speak three languages—that helps me to be confident and strong and am so proud of myself even when it is little broken. I can understand people very well, and I have knowledge.
Reading the first article about different motivations on why someone should not only learn a different language but also want to learn it really opened my eyes. For obvious reasons, like wanting to pass class or get college credits, yes, but it truly is much more than that. I have personally always wanted to travel. To me to be able to travel anywhere would be something that I could only dream of. Attending a different country that may speak Spanish, for example.

Language is the main way to communicate with others, and when a foreigner comes to a new country, the communication is the major thing he has to deal with. According to the text, “the first is so obvious it hardly needs mentioning-language. Vocabulary, syntax, idioms, slang, dialects, and so on, all cause difficulties, but the person struggling with a different language is at least aware when he is in this kind of trouble” (p. 69). Language is an obvious blockade in a cross-culture communication, because of the different grammar, words, slang, and so on. If a person knew the language of that country, at least he could know when he is in the trouble and what kind of the trouble, and I perceive this as the most important thing, to be able to understand. The difficulty of learning a language, is not only know the vocabulary and syntax, but the actual meaning of the sentences. I totally agree with this stumbling block of cross- culture communication, due to my experience of being an international student who studies in another country. When I wanted to come to the
Studying abroad can be one of the most rewarding experiences in a college’s students career. Also, Olsen tells us “In the 2003-2004 school year, 7,208 students from Indiana universities went on study-abroad programs, according to the most recent statistics available from the Institute
