Althaus, Bridgman and Davis describe the Australian policy cycle as a circle of functions beginning with 'identifying an issue ' through 'policy analysis ', 'policy instruments ', 'consultation ', 'coordination ', 'decision ', 'implementation ' and 'evaluation ' feeding back in to 'identifying an issue ' again (Althaus et al 2013: 37-40). Of all the parts of the policy cycle the APS are least involved with the decision making phase and most involved in the consultation and implementation phases (Althaus et al 2013: 16). In particular it is the role of the head of each of the public service departments to provide advice to the government (the consultation phase) and be responsible for the execution of public policy (the implementation phase). These responsibilities are spelled out in the legislation which governs the APS. An earlier version of the legislation, the Public Service Act 1992 stated it thus: “The Secretary of a Department shall… be responsible for its general working… and shall advise the Minister in all matters relating to the Department ' (Weller and Wanna 1997: 14). The current version of legislation, the Public Service Act 1999, describes the role of a Department Secretary as: “(a) principle official policy advisor to the Agency Minister; (b) manager, ensuring delivery of programs… (c) leader...” (Public Service Act 1999, Part 7 Section 57
I am currently in the academy for the Department of Corrections to become a correction officer while I am the process for being in the New York Police Department. But let me tell you how I got to this point of applying for the prestigious program at John Jay College. I have dyslexia. Because of this learning disability, I was told that I was not going to make it. People told me that maybe criminal justice was not for me because I was not performing well in remedial math. However, I did not have a plan B. My plan was to get a career in criminal justice, and I made this happen while I was transferring from my two-year school to go to John Jay College. While I was at John Jay, I had to work twice as hard to keep up with my classmates. My effort
I have chosen Public Health as my career path because I have a passion for making a difference in people’s lives and helping others achieve their goals. Moreover, Public Health is a challenging, diverse and dynamic field. My philosophy of health is very simple, to prevent, improve and educate the lives of individuals, families, communities and the population. Besides, there is no safer way to touch people’s lives than through public
Throughout our life we will experience moments that will have a profound effect on which path in life we take. Previously, my goal was to be a nurse, however due to not meeting the requirements for the nursing program at CSU Stanislaus, I changed my major to sociology. I am currently a junior, but going to graduate next spring 2017 with a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology. After graduating I plan on getting my Masters in Health Care Administration. This decision for this degree was influenced by my first plan on getting my nursing degree; I still want to be in the healthcare field and an MHA seemed like a good fit for me. The two organizations relevant to my career that I will examine are the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs and the Department
Public Health is the most important aspect of medicine. My studies in Public Health will go a very long way to help me grasp the proper concepts and tools needed to work with the government to bring sustainable solutions to health care problems faced by various communities today. Public Health issues touch almost every family in the USA today. I know that if the health sector was better funded, better equipped, and better managed, with clear and effective policies, this kind of suffering could been avoided. I want to go into public health because I believe strongly that I can contribute not only to my fellow Americans, but also to people all over the world. I anticipate that through proper planning, interventions and implementation of effective policies, one will be able to bring about much-needed change through my work with an NGO or non-profit affiliated with the UN.
