Recommended: Impact of the internet on our daily life
I chose to write about the internet and its impact on people. I chose this subject because we could see clearly the effect of it on people especially socially. This subject has many positive and negative aspects such as social effect, finance issue, faster communication, entertainment for everyone, virus and spam mail, shopping online, the advantages and disadvantages of both sides.
I will find the information I need through the internet, and if I needed any help I will contact my teacher Dr. Abdul Karim.
The Advantages of the Internet
The use of the Internet these days has become an integral part of every individual on the face of the earth. So before I start to talk about the advantages of the internet, first I have to say what is the internet? The internet is a global communication network of interconnected computers, that transfer data and information with each other using agreed language that is called protocol. The invention of the internet made a hug revolution in the world of computer and communications, where it made communications faster and easier than before. In 1969, the USA army made communication network that is only for military uses, but years later this network have been developed and improved by some communications company then it was called the internet or WWW, which means world wide web. Since then, it was opened for the public.
The advantages of the internet are a lot compare to its disadvantages, but I will mention some advantages that have impact on people because it needs a lot of writing and research. First, it combined the three forms of media ( reading, watching and listening) into one, you can hear the radio, watch the news and read a magazine at the same time. It also took the place of the phone,...

...ntertainment. As any other invention, we are the one who is responsible in using it in a good or bad way. What’s more, newly released study from the U.S. cautioned that any user spends every minute online without doing something important cause him to lose 0:05 minutes of his social life , and 0.27 minutes of work , and 0.04 minutes of rest and reflection , increased to 0.12 minutes sleep . Also, this time spent online will have effect on other hobbies, such as watching television, social relationships, attending concerts, and cultural activities.
Conclusion
As I mentioned earlier, everything has advantages and disadvantages, but we are the one who decide what to use and how. We should not forget our social life and our family and friends when we use the internet. We should make the internet just a device and we should not exchange it with our social activities.
The internet is used today for many reasons. It is a platform for people to stay in touch with others, entertain themselves and complete work tasks. In the following articles, “Internet Addiction Left my Brother Homeless” by Winston Ross and “The Pointlessness of Unplugging” by Casey N. Cep, the internet is discussed very deeply, but in two varying lights. In the article by Cep the author is writing from personal experiences and research. In the article by Ross the author is writing merely from opinions.
Millions out of the population world wide, has let the internet dominate over them in abrogating forms. The internet can be useful in several ways, such as academic, researching, gaining more knowledge out of a topic, a person has found interesting. On the other hand, it can also be used in negative ways, by drowning the person to surf the web more than 3 hours. Not acknowledging the situation that can lead them too. Such as excluding them, from the outside world. Several may discover the beauty of the internet, as others are pulled aside into the dark route, by themselves. William Gibson, author of the article, “The Net Is a Waste of Time” demonstrates the differences on how technology has involved more than a decade, and the influences being
2. Previous Research: There is a debate as to whether Internet use has a positive or negative impact in our social lives. One study found that for 40% of the college students in their sample, the Internet had been instrumental in the formation of new friendships. Moreover, 7% of their sample had used the Internet to find a romantic partner. The participants in the study claimed that one of the main benefits of communicating through the Internet was reduced social anxiety and shyness (Knox, 2001). In another study, there was evidence that lonely individuals were more likely to use email and the Internet in order to stay connected with others—in theory, giving them a healthier social life—however, evidence showed that heavy use had a negative social impact (Morahan-Martin, 2003). Finally, another study found that individuals comfortable or regularly involved in social gatherings reported more positive effects from Internet use than shy individuals less involved in their community (Kraut, 2002).
I remember the first time I sat on a computer; it was an IBM with a windows 98 installed. We didn’t have Internet connection at the time, and we mainly used our computer for work. The Internet has been around for almost half a century, it has helped us humans communicate easier, get around the world accessibly and exchange goods and services effortlessly. The Internet helped us facilitate a lot of tasks; in the past we had to do a lot of work to get something we needed. Nowadays all of what we can possibly want can be done with a click of a button. The Internet can enhance some of our cognitive abilities; understand thoroughly what we want to know, new concepts and different ways of acquiring knowledge and eventually sharpen our brains to live better.
Robert Kraut et al. presented the no side of this issue. Kraut focused on two major themes, Internet for entertainment, information and commerce, similar to the television, meaning it could reinforce social bonds or reduce social involvement, and interpersonal communication, similar to the telephone rather than the television.
The internet offers a fast communication system. People with a common interest can almost immediately start messaging others looking for the same thing. The internet is an extremely time saving, cost effective, economical and anonymous medium. You don't have to a be rich, high profile movie star or a well known sports person to be on the internet and meeting people. Everyone is equal in cyberspace, and everyone has an equal chance to succeed.
The internet as we all know is probably the most useful resource known to man in this day of age. Not only is the internet easy to access its easy to use. Nearly everyone owns a computer and nearly all of which have access to the internet. But isn't that a good thing? Millions of people having the ability to access and share all the information anybody could ever want.
Technology nowadays has an influence on our lives, it has affected everything in it. When this technological revolution started, we didn't expect that it would affect our emotions, and our feelings. All we expected is that technology would develop our ability to have easier life and control nature. But what really happened is that the technology started to be part of us that we can't live without. The Internet is one of the technologies that appeared in our lives, and now it is dominating our lives.
Internet is a network that virtually connects computers around the world. It has an address network which makes communication possible between the computers. It is an open phone line and an open television channel to millions of people around the world who can communicate anonymously (Palmer, 2006). People use it to exchange files and e-mails, to surf the World Wide Web, to download songs or other types of files, to take part of discussion boards, and to send instant messages. It can be beneficial when it comes to freedom of press, and less disintermediation between people (Palmer, 2006). It can also be of assistance when it comes to doing some kind of research, finding some specific information about any topic, or even getting an undergraduate or a postgraduate degree when it comes to busy people who want to expand their horizons. However, internet has many risks in contrast to its benefits and it should not be used by children without adult supervision and parental control.
The Internet has revolutionized the computer and communications world like nothing before. The Internet enables communication and transmission of data between computers at different locations. The Internet is a computer application that connects tens of thousands of interconnected computer networks that include 1.7 million host computers around the world. The basis of connecting all these computers together is by the use of ordinary telephone wires. Users are then directly joined to other computer users at there own will for a small connection fee per month. The connection conveniently includes unlimited access to over a million web sites twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week. There are many reasons why the Internet is important these reasons include: The net adapts to damage and error, data travels at 2/3 the speed of light on copper and fiber, the internet provides the same functionality to everyone, the net is the fastest growing technology ever, the net promotes freedom of speech, the net is digital, and can correct errors. Connecting to the Internet cost the taxpayer little or nothing, since each node was independent, and had to handle its own financing and its own technical requirements.
The internet has influenced, and is still influencing the way society communicates in many different ways. The rise of the internet has caused people to communicate differently in areas never dreamed of before the internet came into existence. Education has been revolutionized through the world of the “Information Super Highway”. Medicine has also seen reform as the internet improves research and communication. Individuals are starting businesses from scratch, while others are selling household items for extra cash. This internet “typhoon” sweeping the globe has become a way of life for many individuals all across the globe.
The internet has revolutionized all forms of communication since the beginning of its existence. The world has now become smaller' or more like a global village', so to speak. The internet was first used by the U.S military for communications purposes. The internet, from the communication point of view, has brought on new developments and techniques to keep in touch not only for individuals, but for businesses as well. An example of how the internet has impacted communication would be an example of doctors now communicating through live video feeds via the internet with patients or other doctors to diagnose patients or to even guide and advise surgeons through complicated procedures.
The main advantage of the Internet is that communication is made very easy. Two people on opposite sides of the world may communicate with each other via such things as videoconferences. This would save money on flights to other countries just to have a meeting when they can each communicate from their own office. The Internet is a very good place to advertise companies.
The internet is getting bigger and faster everyday, an individual can log on to the internet and buy sell or trade anything, the world wide web can bring the world into your home where anything can be looked up to learn or to amuse. Computer chips are being put in a wide range of things today, from appliances to cell phones to automobiles; an owner can now have their automobile checked for any problems while they are driving down the road via a satellite and find out if they should go in to have it repaired.
Internet as part of the history is the most important invention around the world which connects people thru phones, satellites and cables. People all over the world have access to it as it is everyday usage, and internet becomes globally real and in demand. To mention here, the usage for permits technically for travelling or getting tickets are electronically through internet, paying bills, shopping thru nets without going out (just browsing), playing games, and mostly the merit of possibly downloading music and movies in no time (just a click).
