In the Revolutionary War, America rose up to fight against an army that was exceedingly larger, superior, and more orderly than our army was. While the Continental Army had many disadvantages, they surprisingly had several advantages too. These advantages ultimately triumphed over the strong points of the British.
To begin with, one of the American force’s disadvantages was that they were considerably less experienced than the British troops. They had hardly any training, were poorly equipped, and didn’t even have the funds for proper clothing or food. The British Army’s soldiers were well disciplined, well equipped, and had enough to eat. Their funds were a great deal better, and they were able to hire additional soldiers. Moreover, the British army outnumbered the Continental army in many of the battles. So how did America win it’s independence when the odds seemed to be completely in Britain’s favor?

Our army adopted some of the Native American ways of fighting, which was more hidden and stealthy, whereas the British wore bright red uniforms that made them easy targets. They stayed more in the open as well. Also, the territory was more familiar to the colonists as the British troops were thousands of miles away from home. Since they were so far from Great Britain, there was often poor communication among leaders. Another factor that assisted the Continental Army was George Washington, the Major General and Commander-in-Chief of the militia. He held the force together, kept morale up, and made good choices in his leadership. In contrast, the British generals were oftentimes incompetent in what they
During the phase of the Revolutionary War, Americans were determined to get rid of the hold that British Imperial Rule had on America in attempting to overthrow the power of the British military.
The British extremely misunderstood the War and how to fight in this war. Great Britain’s troops usually wore red coats during fighting in wars as its tradition, but, it was inapplicable in this Revolutionary War. The red coat could be seen and it was easy to identify easily for the Continental Army to attack them even soldiers who were wearing it tried to hide themselves from their opponents. Great Britain was a powerful nation, it had its own war supplies, it had everything that could support them to fight in the war, but, it used to wrong method to fight. In battles, The British Army usually fought the traditional European way by appearing openly in battlefield, no hiding, no tactics to hide itself from colonial troops, so it was attacked
Historians may argue that the British lost the war more than the Colonists won it. Simply looking at the statistics of the British three to one ratio over the colonists, and their overwhelming wealth and naval power, it is virtually impossible to believe that the Americans came out victorious. During this war, the newly emerging colonists proved to the rest of the world that they were becoming an upcoming world power. Although unknown at the time, Washington would prove to be a military genius. This would benefit the colonists in many ways. The colonists, although only one-third of them were pro-war, were patriots who were willing to die for their country. The colonists had more to gain from the war then the British had to lose, thus creating more of an incentive to win. The colonists also had aid from other countries such as France and created allies that would eventually be useful in other wars. The Colonists won the war more than the British lost it because of Washington's great military skills, their patriotism and motives to triumph, and aid of foreign countries.
Americans went through a long and difficult journey before they were truly able to be free from England. Colonists in America fought in the American Revolution to terminate British rule; the battle for independence continued with the War of 1812. Although all the odds were against the Americans, they managed to be victorious in both wars by rebelling, standing up to British threat, and strategizing.
In the second half of the eighteenth century, the British were faced with rebelling colonies. Finally realizing that they had to fight to keep their colonial possessions, the British sent troops to America. Once the battles began in America, the British were not impressed with the colonial military, but the weak militias soon proved to be effective. With foreign aid from France, American devotion, and the lack of British vigor, the Americans soon discovered the open doors of independence. In my opinion, the American advantages and the British disadvantages proved to be the downfall of the English in the American Revolution.
The Native Americans who purchased or used the muskets were very skilled in marksmanship than the colonists because the Native Americans were brought up hunting in their daily lives. The Native Americans wanted to obtain the firearms by trading with the French and Dutch traders by exchanging fur of beaver and other natural resources that the French and the Dutch wanted. The colonists saw the fighting of the Native Americans were different than the traditional open field battles. The colonists evolve in how to fight more effectively with the Indians when they experienced with some conflicts with certain Native Americans. The Native Americans does not use a “destructive” or “barbarian” tactics of using fire, torturing, and dominating their enemies as what the colonists know how to do by seeing how the Royal British Army did in their military history of imperial wars. The Native American warfare tactics are a natural development. In the upcoming years of 1965, the King Philip’s War was when the colonists saw how the Native Americans fought when their warfare changed into a “scorched Earth” tactics. Special fire arrows with rags, torches, sieges with flammable materials, and burning every house the Indians see are some tactics that the Native Americans did not acquire before. The Native American that are against the colonist were ambushing them by luring them in the forest using decoys. The colonists with allies of other Native Americans gave them abilities to avoid ambushes and to track down their enemies. The colonists are appreciated for learning some scouting skills and for the Native American allies to alert and defend their villages from the attacking Native Americans. The colonists who went to the forests to track down the enemies without the assistance of the Native American allies would be failed to find their enemies or
The Americans had an advantage over the British for a simple reason: they were fighting for something they wanted, rather than the British fighting to “play defense” and prevent American independence. Americans colonists wanted to become an independant nation, have a new system of self governance, claim equal rights for all citizens, and rid themselves from tyranny. The Patriots who fought in the Revolution were primarily fighting for independence from Britain, and it was that similar goal that boosted morale. As stated in the Declaration of Independence American colonists were subject to a “long train of abuses and usurpations” and it was also argued that the British tyranny forced colonists to “alter their former system of government”. Therefore, the Patriots were fighting for a cause that affected their everyday lives which inspired them even more to defeat Britain. The British was fed up with the casualties and heavy taxes to pay for the war they were fighting without cause, while the Americans would have done anything to defeat the British. The American colonists and their want to defeat the British for the rights they deserved was a crucial factor to American victory during the revolutionary
...triumph of patriots in the revolutionary war. The enormous size of the colonies made it impossible for the British to protect the loyalist hence losing their support. The British also alienated themselves by disregarding the fighting prowess of the royalist regiment (Mintz & McNeil, 2013). The rebels also used guerilla techniques rather than mount a large scale confrontation that would helped the British deliver a knout out blow. The tilt of the scale happened when other nations such as Spain, France and Netherlands joined in the war.
The Revolutionary War was a war between the Thirteen Colonies and Great Britain from 1775-1783 during the American Revolution. The American colonists fought the British in hope of freedom and separation from Great Britain. “This was the completion stage of the political American Revolution whereas the colonists had denied the rights of the Parliament of Great Britain in governing them without any representation,” ("American Revolutionary War."). The Revolutionary War consisted of many different bloody battles on American soil. The war resulted in an American victory because of many historical reasons. The factors that contributed to an American victory of the Revolutionary War are British debt, distance between America and Great Britain, war tactics, French involvement, and important battles.
In the world’s lens during the 1760s, the British empire had a clear and prominent control over the colonies. However, by the mid-1770s the Americans became enraged enough to declare war against the British for independence. Due to Britain’s massive imperial presence around the globe, the British civilians had a strong inclination for a successful outcome. Instead, the colonists pulled a surprising victory from what should have been a swift defeat. While the British had an abundance of advantages, they lost the Revolutionary War because the British army underestimated the colonists’ perseverance for freedom.
In the beginning, Canada was not a united country. It was split into four, Canada West, Canada East, and Lower Canada, Upper Canada. The were numerous advantages and several disadvantages of the Canadian confederation. Some advantages were more beneficial to some parts of Canada. The railway is one of the benefit
The American Revolution: the war for our independence. This revolution opened the door to our liberty, freedom, and basically what America is now. Most Americans have heard the stories of famous battles, important people (George Washington for instance), and everything in between. However, this was only for our side of the American Revolution and a small fraction of people have been told of Britain’s campaign of the revolution. The only thing people have been told was the Britain lost the war. What of Britain’s triumphs, strategies, and everything that happened in the span of a few years? Not many people know it, but the British struck a major blow against the Patriots in the last few years of the war. Even though the United States won the American Revolution, Britain struck a major blow against the colonists when the British successfully and brutally took the town of Charleston, South Carolina.
In conclusion, it can now be seen that the American Revolution was won with the key factor of luck. It was proven by the Americans survival after The Battle of Long Island, the winter leading up to the Battle of Trenton and even the battle itself, many mistakes made by General Burgoyne during the anaconda plan, General Cornwallis’s southern experience and march up to Virginia and eventually the siege at Yorktown, and the British simply getting tired of the war all prove the point of how important luck was. So now it should be easy for any to see how the main reason for the Americans victory was that of luck.
...he fact that they had no political power and were controlled by a country that was thousands of miles away from them. The American Revolution began as a conflict over political and social change, but soon developed into a dispute over personal rights and political liberty. A decade of conflicts between the British government and the Americans, starting with the Stamp Act in 1765 that eventually led to war in 1775, along with The Declaration of Independence in 1776. Americans united as one and knew that they wanted to be an independent country, have their own laws, rights, and not be colony of the Great Britain. They fought hard for their independence and people lost their lives in the process of it but in the end they succeeded. Never give up, keep fighting till the mission is accomplished just like the Americans did when they were fighting for their independence.
Humans have their benefits and drawbacks, teams have their benefits and drawbacks, armies have their benefits and drawbacks, some overpower others. But how about the fight to establish America? The American Revolutionary War started when Britain was enforcing horrific laws and punishments towards the 13 colonies of America. The colonists had given up their homes and rights for Britain. Many thought this was wrong, tensions were rising, slowly but surely the American Revolutionary War began. During the American Revolutionary War, there were several advantages and disadvantages for both the American and British armies, which affected the course of the war.
